My poor husband took me to doctors, medical tests, etc....The neurologist thought it was ambien withdrawal but the others weren't so sure since people go on and off ambien all the time....It took about 6 months to return to normal. If you are one of those who has this reaction, hope you have a large support network, and a faith community which helps tremendously. I was under the impression that Ambien was something that was used to help with withdrawal symptoms. I have been using Ambien for over 4 years almost daily, Xanax only 2, I've had sleep issues my whole life and probably will the rest of my life but if I can sleep I feel like I can heal from anything.
My pain doctor had put me on Gabapentin at one time for the pain, I don't know if they'll want to try that again or not. At this point, I'm scared to try anything.

He was given Fiorinal for the headaches and then fiorcet instead because the Fiorinal was making his stomach hurt. Now he is taking Ambien for sleep and has decided to discontinue the useage of the Fioricet because he thinks this too is making his stomach hurt. the dr. put him on Prevacid for his stomach but it does not seem to be helping. What can I do and what should he do because I am at my wits end. he keeps missing work too.

It took me six weeks to taper from 20mg to 2.5mg, and at that point I just walked away. It wasn't the most pleasant of times, but it's doable. There is hope for all of you out there - if I can do it, you can do it. Go see your doctor. Tell him you want off of these pills from hell. Follow his advice - it can be done.
How long does ambien withdrawal last? I have been off of it for 3 -1/2 months and struggle terribly w/ insomnia. I was on it for 4-1/2 months and it made me very sick with gastrointestinal problems, acid reflux, burning swellingin mouth, white tongue, etc. Doc did not diagnose, and said my symptoms were all caused by anxiety.

Which one are you currently taking? I have not kept my feelings about ambien a secret here. AMBIEN almost ruined my life. It almost caused me to kill myself many times over, and I have no doubt if I would have kept using it I would not be able to type this because I would be DEAD! Go back and read my journals about the ambien. It has become my mission in life to show people what could happen with that drug.
I do not think it will affect your opiate withdrawal. But fifteen is kind of a lot of ambien. Especially considering it is addictive in its own way. Please be careful. I've shot up enough dope to kill a rhino and I'm scared of Ambien. Good luck and come back and talk to us after you've gotten your nap.

Hi everybody - Day 21 for me no Hydro. Things are looking brighter. Still have bouts of anxiety and depression and wake up about every 2 hours during the night.... I had a little run-in with Ambien along the way. Took 10mg for 12 nights then realized it was really making me crazy, and probably hurting my Hydo my withdrawal progression. Stopping the Ambien had it's own set of unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.... My Doc says I should be back to normal in about 4 weeks.
If you use it to help with withdrawals such as insomnia, that's what it sounds like you asking, you're only substituting another drug in place of the other(s) . Then again, it's probably worked as a 'bridge' for some people to make the withdrawal easier. But as mentioned above, it is addicting and often just prolongs the process more.
I was on 1.5 mgs of lorazepam, went down to 1 mg a day and was sleeping fine at first, now I'm having more anxiety and having trouble sleeping. I'ts been about a month. I am tempted to go back up to 1.5 again but i'm trying to remain strong. I'm even having to use some ambien to sleep and i'ts starting not to help. How long will this go on? and will my sleep pattern come back? Is it possible the withdrawls are actually getting worse?
If you are missing out on time awake to join in on life, then yes I would encourage you to withdraw. I took ambien for the first few nights of my first withdrawal from opiates but I have no idea what to expect with ambien.. Keep posting and someone may relate or we will all support you in your decision to get off ambien.

Ambien works the exact same way as benzos. If you looked up Ambien Withdrawal you'll find it's very rough to get off of. But I bet if you resumed your Ambien just as your doctor prescribed, it will eventually build back up in your system and let you sleep again. I have to admit, I'm like you and I second guess my doctor, but he always seems to know best.
A couple of years ago I was on Ambien 10mg for just 9 months and it took me 4 months to taper off of it.
I have been suffering from benzo withdrawal since jan tenth when i stopped completely from weaning after only two months My god has it been hell highway. If there is a hell I have been stirred in the pot and now hanging out to dry with the pain. I am experiencing episodes of high systolic pressure that incapacitate me. I am on clonodine one quarter to one half tablet twice per day. I am also on 2. suboxone which is useless for benzo but i was given it anyway.
It appears to be similar in efficacy and like Ambien is meant for short term use only. Unless you've tried it Rozerem is one alternative that unlike Ambien or the medication you mentioned or Lunesta does not have a potential for a person to build up a tolerance to it and is an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. You could ask your psychiatrist about that.
ve gone through ambien withdrawal - my kind doctor gave me a six month supply of 20mg (double dosage) and assured me it was not addictive and would help me sleep. I went through absolute HELL getting off of that, and almost died. Ambien is a drug from HELL, as are those that prescribe it like candy...but that is another story. I quit ALL drugs last summer, even though all I took was the prescription poison my Doctor assured me would make everything all better...
After Ambien and Lunesta quit cold on me (due to the hormone change), I have been taking 1 ambien and 150 mg. of Trazadone for 3 nights now. I started with one Ambien and 50 mg. of Trazadone, then second night, I couldn't sleep so my regular doctor said to adjust dosage to 1 Ambien and 100 mg.. Third night I had to use 1 ambien and 150 mg. of Trazadone according to doctor's prescription of 1 to 3 tablets of Trazadone.
