Nice to see your response. Hey, I'm just getting off to get off. I've been on it so long no one can remember why I'm on it. I think it was just for sleep anyway and I don't sleep anymore. It puts me to sleep, but I wake up anyway after an hour or so and can't sleep, so why stay on it? I went from 150 mg to 100 mg to 50 mg yesterday. Last night I couldnt' sleep, but no worse than without it. Think I'll stay on it a few days more and then stop it.
After Ambien and Lunesta quit cold on me (due to the hormone change), I have been taking 1 ambien and 150 mg. of Trazadone for 3 nights now. I started with one Ambien and 50 mg. of Trazadone, then second night, I couldn't sleep so my regular doctor said to adjust dosage to 1 Ambien and 100 mg.. Third night I had to use 1 ambien and 150 mg. of Trazadone according to doctor's prescription of 1 to 3 tablets of Trazadone.

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with, or are looking for a non habit forming sleep aid. My doctor put me on a drug called Trazadone when I was going through Sub W/D's. It is actually an anti depressant and one of the side effects is it knocks you out. So it is a tremendous sleep aid, especially when you are suffering from chronic RLS and other annoying side effects of withdrawals.
I never had the refill done. But I am wondering why a 10mg Ambien with 100mg Trazadone seems to work well with no side effects and just the Ambien CR alone made so sleepy & tired. There must be some explanation. Tomorrow will be the sixth day since my last CR dose and I'm just now beginning to feel normal like I did. I know this is long but hopefully it will help someone else also.
I usually take ambien cr but, my insurance ran out because I lost my job and it's too expensive. The pharmacist suggested generic ambien and sent a request to my doctor. My doctor called and suggested trazodone? Now, I was fine using the ambien and actually just sleep and wakeup great in the am and only used it on nights before I worked so I could get to and stay asleep because I have mind racing thoughts and don't actually get to a restful sleep state if I do get to sleep.
Before I began the clonazepam the ambien was very effective, but after I started the clonazepam the ambien was worthless. I think that is because the two classes of drugs share cross-tolerance. I have been curious about trazadone as a sleep aid since I have a hard time falling asleep most of the time. I am ok once I fall asleep and I sleep through the night but falling asleep can take me half the night w/o any meds to make me drowsy.
Ask your doctor about adding trazadone to your regimen. It is an antidepressant and to be taken in the evening before bed. You would take this in lieu of the ambien. You may need to ween off the ambien a bit at first. Insomnia has always been the greatest issue for me as well with anxiety/depresssion and Trazadone has been the solution.

I dont know if this will help but while detoxing off of hydrocodone and xanax I was put on 100mg of trazadone a night, i first was put on ambien 10mg a night by a Dr that had no idea what he was doing, it was awful i hallucianted on the ambien and couldnt remember anything the next morning....so while in rehab i was put on trazadone by my addiction Dr.
I can usually fall asleep, however i wake and stay up for a few hours every night. i have tried benedryl,klonopin,trazadone,serequil, and elavil for relief however every one of these meds has a paradoxical effect on me. Any suggestions?
Hi. The lexapro didn't work for my anxiety, but did help with depression. I was only on it a short time. Have been on trazadone for many years. It helps with falling asleep (not with staying asleep though). Didn't have a problem getting off the lexapro. Tried once to get off the trazadone and the only problem was insomnia. I've tried both Ambien and Ambien CR and neither one work at all for me - trazadone works better than ambien for me.
warning labels another. Is the only risk with taking say half an ambien tab (5 mg) after having a glass of wine, increased drowsiness? I read some reviews that say taking ambien with alcohol can be fatal; would this be for large doses or volumes of alcohol?
Does anyone else have trouble sleeping? I only average 4 hrs. sleep/night. I'm taking Trazadone 150mg. Dosen't seem to help. I'm afraid lack of sleep is affecting my health! Is this normal? I'm in week 37 of Interferon and Pegasys. Every night is a battle, for me. Maybe I've just psyched myself out.
I was on 1.5 mgs of lorazepam, went down to 1 mg a day and was sleeping fine at first, now I'm having more anxiety and having trouble sleeping. I'ts been about a month. I am tempted to go back up to 1.5 again but i'm trying to remain strong. I'm even having to use some ambien to sleep and i'ts starting not to help. How long will this go on? and will my sleep pattern come back? Is it possible the withdrawls are actually getting worse?
My doctor had me on Ambien for a month or so and then he said that he does not like to prescribe Ambien for long periods of time, so he put me on 2 - 50mg tablets of Trazadone to take at bedtime. At first I thought what a waste, but it actually works for me and works well. Whether its addictive or not, I am not sure as I have not tried to stop using it, as I truly have problems falling asleep at night.
just wondering if anyone has anything that helps them sleep better at night and not feel crappy in the morning. I stop using Ambien and I cannot sleep, I have a refill but really want to use that as last resort. My antidrepressant they gave me for this makes me feel like **** in morn and I'm not going to take it anymore. I was up till 4:30 last night.
I previously posted a question concerning ambien as a replacement for klonipin. My ob/gyn had me drop the klonopin cold turkey and wanted me to take ambien at night. I went to see my internist, and she is now weening me from klonopin and lexapro, and putting me on prozac. I have heard many a bad thing about prozac, anyone out there take prozac who suffers from panic disorder and depression?
Do you have a Dr. Who will prescribe Trazadone? It's not a narcotic or as bad as Ambien. It's an older anti-depressant that's very sedating. I use 50 mg but can go as high as 150.
s not like ambien. Ambien has a super short half life. Trazadone will leave you feeling groggy the next day if you take it too late. I definitely agree with trying on your own. Just don't give up if you awaken in the middle of the night. Get up and do something. I was always afraid to do that because I didn't want to "get wide awake", but that was a joke! I was already wide awake and fighting getting up! Just move to another room.

As you already know since you've experienced this before, insomnia is one of the common side effects of Zoloft. Some people have that, and others feel more drowsy. I would recommed trying the Trazadone, it's a good medication for insomnia. Definitely a better choice than the Ambien for this kind of short term course. You should only need something to help you sleep until the insomnia side effects start improving, which they will.
my mom just ended up in the hospital for doubling up on her ambien. sroke-like symptoms.there is melatonin, valerian root-lots of things for sleep. look in the amino acid and thomas recipe pages. For me, lavendar essential oil in the tub and in my lotion after the tub works. Ask at the health food store too- there are plenty of things to try...
