1589929 tn?1310066922 I'm pregnant and my Doctor may prescribe me something for insomnia and I was wondering what class of medication Ambien is? I've looked it up and one site will say it's a B and the next site will say C. Does anyone know which category is really falls under?
202436 tn?1326474333 I was just prescribed by my OB Nurse Practitioner Visteril today (hydroxyzine pamoate 50mg) for sleep. I looked into it before picking it up. She wanted me to swap from taking Ambien (had been on that for about 5 years). I'm 8 weeks pregnant and after looking into the classification Ambien is category C but this Visteril is category X! Which means do NOT EVER take pregnant (birth defects) so yea I can't believe she'd want me to do that!!
1102799 tn?1269237714 LUNESTA!!! Although i have not taken it since being prego ...if your DR ok'd ambien then Lunesta is ok as well. It works MUCH better...i hated Ambien.
1926359 tn?1331588139 You should not be taking oxazepam once you are pregnant, since it is category D and is contraindicated in pregnancy. Ambien is a tad safer for sleep, the less you take the better.
Avatar f tn I'm only about 5-6 weeks I'm on prescribed adderall 40mg daily and Ambien 10mg at bedtime. Has anyone been on these medications while being pregnant? I'm very concerned about my baby being affected. My doctors says it's ok to continue taking these medications......
Avatar f tn I've looked up a lot about ambien during pregnancy and I haven't found anything saying you shouldn't take it or that it'll harm the baby. Has anyone spoken to their doctor about ambien? I've had ambien prescription for years and it's really hard for me to sleep. No I'm not addicted, I used to take it only once or twice a week. It wasn't an every day thing. But it gets sooooo hard for me to sleep some nights so I'm wondering if it's safe.
Avatar f tn My dr knew about my habit last year and told me that ambien during pregnancy was ok as long as i was not taking a lot. But i have a new dr this year and I am going to have to tell them.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been given ambien during pregnancy? I just started on it last night to help me sleep. Anyone have any negative effects? Should i be worried about my babies?
Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category D is a stronger warning than a pregnancy Category C classification. However, a pregnancy Category D medicine may still be given to a pregnant woman if the health care provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child. Klonopin was given a pregnancy Category D rating due to the problems it caused in animal studies.
741315 tn?1232458427 Xanax is generally used short term as an anti-anxiety medication. Klonopin or another medication in the same category is safer used long term. Ambien is not meant for everyday use as a sleeping aide as it can be addictive. Lunesta or Rozerem are two better choices. Rozerem works in the same manner as Melatonin and actually adjusts the sleep cycle. Those are some ideas to speak to your psychiatrist about.
Avatar f tn For someone with more persistent anxiety who might need something every day, I would consider something like Buspar ( which is category B, or considered to be pretty safe). Another option would be something like Zoloft or Prozac depending upon the symptoms. Given the wide array of medications available today, there is usually something that I can find for just about every need. Also, consider something like yoga too! Good luck!
12796163 tn?1436135189 They wouldn't prescribe you something unless they felt the benefits outweigh the risks. Maybe Ambien isn't safe earlier in pregnancy while certain systems are developing but becomes safer later on?

1690584 tn?1340297472 Hello, e The actual effects of Ambien in pregnancy have not been studied and is recommended for use only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Also, it is best to not cross the recommended dose of 10mg/day. So, try to wean yourself f the medication. You should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Try to have a warm bath before sleeping. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping.
Avatar f tn It says tramadol is category C though. If you don't know what that means just type in goggle pregnancy category C.
Avatar m tn After 1 year of consistent Zolpidem (Ambien) 10mg use, I realized it was time to stop. The medicine was a "life saver" at first, but as time went on, its effectiveness became way too inconsistent. To make it simple, after using this drug for a year, I now have more of a sleeping disorder than I did before I got on this medicine. After a night that it worked, i was fine during the day. However, after a night that it didn't work, I was useless both mentally and physically.
