Ambien in labor

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien in labor

ambien

1690584 tn?1340297472 I know my cousin did have Ambien for a couple of nights when she was pregnant - however, she was in labor already, having a tough time of it and hadn't slept in a few nights, so her situation could be very different from yours since you are not as far along in your pregnancy as she was. If your OB says it's ok to continue taking the Ambien, definitely do your absolute best to not go above the 10mg - unless your doctor can give you the Ambien CR, which is 12.5 mg.
Avatar f tn Yes I was on ambien for almost 3wks before I went into labor. My Dr said it's perfectly safe, he wouldn't have prescribed it otherwise. And I don't completely sleep through the night. I would wake up to go to the bathroom and then fall right back asleep. No being up for a cpl hrs in btwn which would happen on tylenol pm and benedryl. I think you'll love it.
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital today getting checked bc I was having back aches....well it was actually contractions, anyways dr checked & said I was 3 cm dialated... They gave me 2 Ambien & Demorral & sent me home. They said I was in labor just not active labor. They also said the 'sac' was around the babies head & my b.p. was/is high. My question is whats the difference? If I am having contractions shouldn't they have kept me? How close am I to meeting baby?
12796163 tn?1436135189 I was having horrible pains since last night. Anywho, my doc prescribed me Ambien to take in order for me rest. Anybody taken this before?? During pregnancy?? Reading up on it makes me nervous.
Avatar f tn s also a brand that makes a Super Snooze Melatonin that has other natural things in it. I took ambien for about 10 years. In the end, it didn't even really work. I switched over to Melatonin and it helped, but then Vicki mentioned Allteril and I like that much, much better. It has Melatonin in it plus Valerian Root and a couple of other all natural things. It's non-habit forming and it doesn't make you feel groggy in the morning.
Avatar f tn @extreme, can you dr give you something like ambien to sleep until you go into labor? Mine said it's absolutely perfectly safe to take this late on. Also, tylenol pm or benedryl is allowed as well!
Avatar n tn If you are taking ambien too constantly, then your brain simply cannot sleep without it. With it, it sleeps like normal brain without ambien, which means that it could be addiction.Try not taking it for a week and then take 10mgs and see what happen.
Avatar f tn I took the shot too and had contractions the whole pregnancy starting the day after my 1st shot at 16 weeks. .. now I am almost 38 weeks and have been in early labor for like a week now ( contacting every 10 min , dialated to 2 cm and thinning out) but no baby yet. It's so painful now I hadn't slept in 4 days my last appointment and my dr gave me some ambien to relax me enough to get a bit of sleep before he come because I'll be too fatigued to deliver if not.
Avatar f tn Pretty long but here I go...so because of my baby measuring in at 7pnd 14oz back in June and my due date being 07/29 my obgyn were no longer able to do approximate weight estimates for baby going forward. There fore I could only assume based upon growth pattern that baby would be bigger than average as due date approached.I opted for an elective c section.
Avatar f tn My youngest I was having contractions every 4 minutes went to hospital about 1 am they said I was at 4 cm they checked again a hour later I hadn't changed so they Gave me an ambien & sent me home told me to sleep the relaxation will help body move faster.
Avatar f tn Wednesday 4/15/2015 at 12 I started to get uncomfortable contractions so I went in to get checked, was told in early labor and no dilation so sent home with ambien. Thursday had contractions all day like 10 minutes apart about midnight had bad dull backache and contractions about 6 minutes apart, went to the restroom lost mucus plug so I decided to go in to l&b, dilated 5 cm so I was admitted because such progress made in a 24 hour period and by the time I knew it I had baby in my arms!
Avatar f tn I was induced a week and a half after my due date with my first baby. I was in labor for 26 hours and pushed for two straight hours. A week before i was induced, i went into labor after walking four miles. Went to the hospital with contractions every four minutes but i was not dilating and didnt 100% efface. So they gave me an ambien and sent me home and it stalled my labor. A week later is when they had to induce me.
Avatar n tn Ive heard different opinions about taking the sleeping pill ambien while pregnant...is it safe?
707355 tn?1228930349 Yesterday at my doc apt I was 2cm dialated and 50% effaced, baby is a good 8lbs, I know with my daughter I was 2cm for 6 weeks, so really all that doesnt even phase me because it can all change before you know it! Anyways I had my membranes stripped with my daughter and was in the hospital in labor 36 hours later. YEsterday, the doc swiped my membranes because of all the contractions , lack of sleep and pains I Have been in..
Avatar f tn Does anyone know a capable doctor in Florida who can help someone taper off of Ambien and Xanax - Tampa area?
Avatar f tn On the Topix site's ambien thread I kept reading about scripts for 5, 10 12MG, but never 20. I've been on the thread in regards to Ambien for months. It's huge. It started in 2006. Thousands of postings from lost souls trying to quit, posting in the wee hours, awake, unable to get to sleep. But there are also many posters like you happypill. There are millions more people who need the sleep and rest they get from Ambien. My mom was one of them.
Avatar n tn I take ambien as needed in small doses...i take a 5 mg pill and pop it in half and have been using it for over 10 years without a tolerence or any abuse...no side effects...i take it to sleep as i have chronic pain and take it most nights....can u try cutting ur dose but i really do not think this is your problem with the skin...r u using anything else?
501205 tn?1227345442 I couldnt sleep last night and took an ambien for the first time in awhile and I have to say those are bad pills. I always thought they were okay for me but I made the mistake of taking one and not going to bed right away and I have no recollection of what I did for the last half hour before bed. I was just reading my post to Courtney and I cant even remember typing it -- let alone what it said.
Avatar f tn I am really wondering how bad this is, because it is such a low dose. Im going to ask the dr tomorrow....I have researched and studied about ambien in pregnancy and there are no studies that it harms a baby at this low of a dose. If i was not pregnant, I would not even be questioning the drug because the one pill has always been enough for me and i dont have an issue with taking it forever if I have to.
Avatar f tn I have taken this medication before. It worked pretty well, as regular Ambien is formulated only to put you in the deep stages of sleep for about 4 hours, so usually (not all the time becuase of course everyone is defferent and responds differently) when you wake up in the morning you aren't all hung over like you are sometimes when you take like Benedryl or something. I was on it for a while, and then I changed doctors and he changed me to Trazodone.
Avatar m tn He asked me how I slept and I told him that to be honest for a year, I have not slept more than 5hours a night. I wake up at 3am like clock work. SO in shot, I do not sleep very well. He thought I would benefit greatly if I got regualr sleep for two weeks. He offered me Ambien, but said I could try over the counter stuff too if I didn't want that... In short he said that I needed to figure out a way to get regular sleep. Seeing as I don't like drugs...
Avatar m tn good glad I read that wrong, I do beleive that ambien messes up your memory or I am just old and that is partly true, I just hope you are taking the ambien under a Dr's care. It is so hard to function if you are not getting enough sleep. So I am hoping and praying for you.
Avatar n tn While I was in the office, I forgot to ask whether this new drug could interact with the Ambien, so I stopped taking the Ambien until I could see my doctor again. About a month went by in which I did not use Ambien at all. During this time, the abdominal pains gradually lessened over a period of weeks, and eventually disappeared.
Avatar f tn I've looked up a lot about ambien during pregnancy and I haven't found anything saying you shouldn't take it or that it'll harm the baby. Has anyone spoken to their doctor about ambien? I've had ambien prescription for years and it's really hard for me to sleep. No I'm not addicted, I used to take it only once or twice a week. It wasn't an every day thing. But it gets sooooo hard for me to sleep some nights so I'm wondering if it's safe.
491910 tn?1209366193 So once I came off of the xanax, I started supplementing ambien in place of it again, try to keep accountability of each and everyone. Only taking one at a time spread our throughout the day. I also started keeping a diary of how many I'd taken that day. I was doing pretty well the first few days, for me at least (30 mg spread throughout the day from the time I woke up, until the time I went to sleep. Then slowly but surely the daily dosage began going up again... 30mg... 50 mg...
Avatar n tn r u sure it is the ambien? it could be a mixture? all 3 drugs aggravate depression and out of the 3 ambien is categorized as the least addictive of the three drugs u r taking.....i would talk to my doctor and find another alternative for sleep....taking these every night could get u into trouble..have u tried the natural sleep aids like melatonin, valerian, etc?
