ambien

1201433 tn?1328997637 Hi, I was on Lunesta for the entire tx and it worked great. Ambien comes in two forms one is extended ambien, do you know which one you are on? You should talk to your Dr about which one you are on.I took regular ambien long before tx and it didn't work too well for me either. Best of luck....
Avatar f tn I feel you might have taken quite few medications for your sleeplessness over years and so want to stop further. Ambien is good choice for treatment of insomnia, but it is intended for short-term use. Elavil/Endep can be tried if you are not comfortable with Ambien and it is a non-addictive drug. Try to relax and plan a healthy sleeping habit on a long-term basis. Avoid coffee/tea, smoking, alcohol and a bulky spicy meal at nights.
Avatar n tn My health care provider has prescribed Ambien as a stop-gap measure. It did not keep me asleep last night. She advises that I hang in there for a while and things may "adjust". If they don't, she'd like to refer me to an endo. BTW, I've been laid off and am paying a fortune for COBRA coverage. Question: is this period of adjustment "normal"? Any thoughts regarding treatment options?
10623623 tn?1414292089 Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant drug with significant sedative effect. Its FDA approved for insomnia. Also, suddenly discontinuing Doxepin may cause withdrawals so be aware of that.
3203287 tn?1346456634 I have suered from insomnia, since I was a child, but it did get worse when my liver began to get worse. During my Treatment (triple w/Victrelis) it was even worse, because I had to make many bathroom trips, due to my mouth getting so dry that I had to drink water thru-out the night, inorder to even swallow, at times. The thing is: I would sleep from 11 pm until 4 am, and then it was insomnia time until 6 am, when I would get up.
Avatar n tn anybody have ideas to help insomnia, i am taking melatonin and it was working during tx , but I am in the middle of my third week of tx . i have a chemically induced daze, little fatigue , muscle aches amd slight insomnia and melatonin doesnt seem to kick in , so i tale a little Ativan and it helps a little.
Avatar f tn What were the four meds you took for insomnia? I may have some suggestions.
Avatar m tn I returned to the United States from a 3 week vacation to New Zealand / Australia in late November - the time zone difference was 16 hours. The first night back, I was able to get a full night's sleep, however, since then my sleep has been limited to 5-6 hours per night (before the trip, I got almost 8 hours). Ended up getting an upper respiratory infection a few days after returning.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for responding. I need a referral to see a specialist, and am hoping that will happen, but with doctors attitudes that I've seen...just don't know. We just got health insurance. My Psychiatrist doesn't charge me anything. I think she is just holding me close to her to watch out for me, and I love her for that. I only took the Ambien for two nights. After it didn't pan out, I threw it out.
Avatar f tn I have been struggling with sleep since about week 8 or 9. My OB prescribed me Ambien to help. The RX had 20 in the bottle.. I finished in less than 30 days. Guessing about 23 days.. She inatructed me to take the meds for sleeplessness nights, but not every night, as the drug could possibly pass to the baby. I am no longer taking ambien and have been taking OTC Unisom. Which is safe during pregnancy. Even when taken at 8-9pm im still wide awake until 2-3 am. What can i do?
Avatar n tn Ambien is zolpidem, a sedative-hypnotic prescription medication approved only for the short-term treatment of insomnia as well as for some other brain disorders. The drug is considered safe for a period of two to maximum six weeks for the treatment of insomnia. If taken for a longer duration, one may develop dependence on ambien. You should discuss with your doctor about the risks of taking ambient for 2 weeks or longer. Ambien addiction is a serious problem requiring treatment.
Avatar f tn Try to get even light exercise during the day, avoid daytime naps, no caffeine after noon, and if none of that helps, maybe you could ask your doctor for something like Ambien of Lunesta maybe; I assume they are available in Canada, although possibly under a different brand name. The generic name for Ambien is ‘Zolpidem’, if that helps.
Avatar f tn Could I be having insomnia because of the Ambien. I already take 50 mg of benadryl every night before bed because of the rash which by the way doesn't help when you are trying to fall asleep. Anyone have a magic potion? I feel tired all day because I force myself to get up by 9am no matter what time i go to sleep.
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!

Avatar f tn I have been taking Ambien for 5 years now and take anywhere from 20-30mg, plus Lamotrigine for Depression, Ropinirole for RLS, and a few others. The Ambien does not work well for me anymore and this past month my insomnia has escalated. In addition to the RLS I have body jolts, hallucinations while I'm falling asleep, and these electrical zapping sensations throughout my body.
1102799 tn?1269237714 LUNESTA!!! Although i have not taken it since being prego ...if your DR ok'd ambien then Lunesta is ok as well. It works MUCH better...i hated Ambien.
Avatar f tn Also, the top recommended dosage of ambien for people without liver disease is 10 mgs a day. Do not take more than that and certainly do not take it with other CNS depressants. Please speak to yur doctor before taking anything.
443006 tn?1229201842 I told my doctor no on the sleep aides too. I later decided that was a mistake and began taking Ambien. It works for me most of the time. I figured it beats the losing sleep battle.
Avatar f tn It's funny how addiction works Tramhater....I've been addicted to sleeping pills (ambien) too. Ironically I didn't realize my insomnia was caused by tramadol withdrawal because of the line of crap they feed you about it. Anyway, you will need to taper off your medication very slowly if you can do little bits at a time. However, you will have some rebound insomnia. Rest assured that your sleep will return eventually.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed trazodone 100mg (I think it said mg) for my insomnia that I have suffered with for the last 15 years due to a thyroid problem I had years ago. I took it for the first time last night, but I did not fall asleep or even come close to falling asleep. I took it at 8:30pm and went to bed at 9pm, but ended up getting out of bed at 10pm because I could not sleep. The only difference I feel is a huge headache this morning.
Avatar n tn talk with ur physician and find an alternative that works..the seroquil mentioned above works for many with severe insomnia...ambien will not help bad insomnia only occasional sleepless nights....and u never know which drug will hit ur "button" and cause u to abuse it...for me it is narcotics..for some benzos and others ambien...
Avatar n tn Both Ambien and Lunesta are used to treat insomnia. However, on long term use, both have the potential of dependence / habit forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Treatment with Ambien may cause side effects like impairment of thinking or reactions. You may still feel sleepy the morning after taking the medication. In patients with liver disorder, a smaller dose of Ambien is generally prescribed. Ambien addiction is a serious problem requiring treatment.
Avatar f tn If so, does it work for you, did it take a couple of weeks for it to help you? Any good or bad side effects? Currently taking 100mg for insomnia, but does not seem to be helping, only on it for 10 days. Thanks.
Avatar m tn My dr. told me to take unisom tablets for insomnia & it has worked like a charm for me. I bought walmart brand called equate nighttime sleep aid. Give it a try & youll be asleep in no time. Dont get the gelcaps, they have a diff ingredient..
Avatar f tn i sleep for a few hours then get up to pee. then i toss and turn for the rest of the night. this is really beginning to get to me. my dr gave me ambien but it's still at the pharmacy b/c my hubby (who is a nurse) doesn't want me to take it being that it is a class c drug. that means it could cause birth defects. my dr said not to worry b/c the baby is being delivered by c/s on monday so she is already formed. my hubby said no way. oh well....
