Avatar n tn which are written on the subject, and the association, or side effect of short term memory loss, while using, and apparently even after discontinuing Ambien CR 12.5 tablets! I've been taking Ambien 12.5 MG tablets, or its generic brother, " ZOLPIDEM TARTRATE 12.5 MG SA Tab" for a couple of years, for two problems; which are difficulty sleeping, primarily because of pain associated with my spinal cord injury, and likely anxiety.
Avatar m tn I can tell you from experience, both Ambien and Ambien CR are notorious for causing odd behavior. I had to quit taking Ambien CR after it stated causing anxiety and pacin attack issues. Regular Ambien caused my husband to rise an hour after going to sleep and go down to our garage and work on his bike until 3:30 AM, when I realized he wasn't in bed and found him downstairs asleep.
Avatar n tn I have had periods of migraine headaches followed by black outs, memory loss, and was hospitalized for seizures. I was placed on a seizure med which I had a terrible reaction to. My driver license has been revoked due to an accident - I drove off a bridge. My headaches have become unbearable and I am having problems finding information that links the TGA, seizures, and migraines.
1102799 tn?1269237714 Fairly soon my Ob-gyn switched me to Ambien CR 12 mg and this worked quite well (1/2 at night and 1/2 in the middle of the night) - I definitively prefer Ambien CR to regular Ambien. PS: be careful if you try to switch to Lunesta, a friend of mine did that and he started to sleepwalk!!
Avatar n tn I am never taking it again, but I am wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if their short term memory returned to normal over time. It also causes anxiety and other problems that go away, but I am concerned that it may have caused permanent memory damage.

Avatar f tn Cirrhosis can contribute to sleeplessness and/or inverted sleep cycles, memory loss, and confusion or worse (called hepatic encephalopathy) due to liver insufficiency and possible accumulation of ammonia and toxins in the bloodstream.
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
Avatar m tn The last couple weeks ive been taking the over the counter sleep meds and on some nights the ambien (both independently) and have started to experience memory loss and constipation. Can I attribute this to the sleeps meds and if so is it something to be concerned about.
Avatar f tn I agree with those that say we need a class action lawsuit in regards to Ambien and memory loss. My husband and I are under a great deal of stress due to the fact that he is awaiting a heart transplant and have been taking the Ambien for almost two years. When i was younger (almost 60 yrs old now), people would ask me if I had a "photographic memory"; now it is feeling like I have dementia. I work as an administrator and have to remember a lot of information.
Avatar m tn I started taking Alprazolem for anxiety 15 years ago. Since then I only take .5mg at night to help me relax and fall asleep. I now find the the 1 pill at night is not helping me sleep. So I started taking Ambien CR and stopped taking the Alprazolem. I'm sleeping great, but feel terrible in the morning. I feel nausea and tingling numbnest in my arm and face. Do you think its from the Ambien or from me stopping the alprazolem. Any advice?
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hey, regular ambien effects last right around 4 hr. max and ambien cr which is controlled release is 8 hrs..the ambien, chemical name is Zolpidem, which is considered a "z" class sedative/hypnotic and is pretty potent can cause all the side effects- the memory loss, problems concentrating and especially daytime drowsiness is definitely a common problem...the usual starting dose for ambien is typically 5 mgs to 10mgs for either wd'ing detoxing and usually is prescribed for insomnia.
Avatar n tn Ambien CR does come in 12.5 mg -- I have some. the regular ambien does not, but ambien CR does. just clarification.
Avatar f tn s still exhibiting significant short term memory loss and cognitive confusion -- that look like early dementia. Has anyone has experience where they've seen these memory impacts go away or reduce after a while of being off the Ambein? Online I see postings of people who were on the Ambein for a few years, and still have the memory loss issues years afterward. I'm getting worried. I'm not seeing anyone who's memory came back. So do you know anyone?
763205 tn?1234422576 I have been taking Ambien/Ambien CR for several years now. I switched from the regular Ambien when the Ambien CR became available. Two nights ago I took my nightly migraine medications and my Ambien CR. I remember being awake for about 45 mins after that and then I remember nothing. Some how I was unconscience when I took 8 more Ambien CR 12.5 mg. I remember nothing after that. I went on a wild rampage in my room and destroyed everything in sight and I do mean everything.
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
Avatar n tn does anyone think that ambien cr will help with sleep while going through withdrawls???
Avatar f tn I know it is not used for this purpose, but it works for me in this way and helps me to get tasks done. This is definately the upside. The downside is memory loss; i.e., with conversations I have or where I put things away while I am in this state of mind. %:) Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions for antidepressants or mood stabilizers that have similar molecular components to ambien without the tranquilizer effect?
175734 tn?1225134440 I was having lots of memory loss and neck and back pain while on the Ambien. I quit (2) days ago and i feel alot better. Can't sleep so good yet ( rebound ). Hope this wont last long.
206807 tn?1331936184 I took the regular Ambien and did the sleep walking thing too... and eating! One night I put the dog out.... poor thing! The next morning I thought I had dreamed it until I couldn't find her to put her out. Now I'm taking the Ambien CR and haven't had that problem... I think it is because it is slow release, so there isn't as much in your blood stream at one time. For me to be able to sleep for more than 3 hours a night, it is worth taking the chance. Insomnia is hell!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Then a visit to my PCP for the Orthostatic Hypotension and he told me to go off those two drugs and gave me a script of 3 days with 1 refill of Ambien CR to see how I would react to that. After the 3 nights I started sleeping 18 to 20 hours of a 24 hr. period plus felt completely out of it. A call back to him and he said he just didn't know why I was doing that and suggested I should talk to my psyche about it which he was supposed to have done.
620048 tn?1358018235 The extended-release form, Ambien CR, has a first layer that dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep, and a second layer that dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep.
Avatar m tn I think it is because you are only getting a little medicine in your system at a time instead of all at once like regular Ambien As was mentioned above, I have had horrible sleep patterns for years before ever finding out about hep c, and tried all kinds of stuff, and I like the Ambien CR best.
763205 tn?1234422576 How many pills did you take after going back and counting the tablets? It's not uncommon for people who take ambien or Ambien Cr to not remember doing something. They fall asleep and don't know they're sleeping, so the end up taking more pills because they don't remember taking the 1st one and the cycle keeps on going. I've heard horror stories of people racking up credit cards, diving and cooking while on Ambien.
Avatar m tn i have been on clonazepam for many months and ambien cr i am having problems with thinking straight, and i believe it is the clonazepam not the ambien cr.
Avatar f tn If you use it to help with withdrawals such as insomnia, that's what it sounds like you asking, you're only substituting another drug in place of the other(s) . Then again, it's probably worked as a 'bridge' for some people to make the withdrawal easier. But as mentioned above, it is addicting and often just prolongs the process more.
