Ambien and trazodone

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and trazodone

ambien

Avatar m tn It has come to a point where I need to medicate myself with several different medicines in order to fall asleep. I usually take Ambien 10 mg and I take two od those and sometimes Xanax 1 mg. I have noticed that Ambien doesnt really help much anymore. I just feel weird when I take it. Sometimes when I dont take anything to sleep and I manage to fall asleep, I have very vivid dreams and nightmares. Even after taking medicine, I dont usually fall asleep until 4 am and I am up at 8 or 9.
Avatar n tn My doctor had me on 10 mg Ambien and my body got used to it and it became in affective. He has prescribed up to 2 mg of Ativan and taken me of the Ambien. So far, taking the full 2 mg will get me to sleep, but it sure takes a long time, 2 hours or more.
Avatar f tn My wife took 100 mg Trazadone every night before bed as a sleeping aid, an off label use. I tried it myself and it didn't work as a sleep aid. I was also looking form help with stress caused depression, it didn't seem to help me in that area either. I switched to Sertraline (Zoloft) not sure if that will help with depression or not. I find the generic Ambien doesn't help me sleep either.
Avatar m tn The plan is to take both at betdime and gradually reduce the ambien dosage until I no longer need it at all. The trazodone is supposed to help me sleep when the ambien wears off. He said the trazodone was not addictive and I could easily quit it after the ambien is out of my system. Does anyone have any experience with this and does it sound like a plan that will work? I've only been taking the ambien for three months.
Avatar n tn My doctor called and suggested trazodone? Now, I was fine using the ambien and actually just sleep and wakeup great in the am and only used it on nights before I worked so I could get to and stay asleep because I have mind racing thoughts and don't actually get to a restful sleep state if I do get to sleep. I don't and have never had any addiction problems whatsoever. So, now I'm affraid to take this stuff. I hear mixed reviews.
Avatar n tn t hurt too much to combine Ambien, Trazodone, and/or Ativan - except REALLY strong sedation, and you could injure yourself. I'd start with the Trazodone alone and see if it works for you, if you think you will need something long-term it's the only one that won't put you on a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs, withdrawls, etc.
Avatar m tn They are similar chemically and therefore have similar pharmacodynamics, which is why both trazodone and diphenhydramine, a first generation antihistamine, make a person drowsy (cause somnolence.) Frankly I don't like either the TCA or antihistamine hangover. While Ambien and other z-drugs cause less hangover, they have other negative side effects. I would suggest that the OP try melatonin.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Ambien or Sonata? I take Ambien (have been on it for about 4 years) - some nights it works well and others it's like I've taken a tic tac - but there are nights when nothing short of getting hit over the head with a hammer is going to help me sleep! I used to be on the CR version of the Ambien, until my insurance decided it wasn't going to cover that formula any longer, so now I'm back to the 10mg dose.
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien three months ago and I have started doing ome things out of the norm.
Avatar f tn Hi i'm on Prozac and trazodone if you start on a low dose of trazodone it shouldn't be an issue and there really is no interaction with trazodone and Prozac because I've been on trazodone and Prozac for years and I've never had a problem you just have to take it like maybe you're better off just taking half a tablet or something
783281 tn?1259691431 I too have both trazodone and ambien cr- When I was going through the WDs i would switch off every other night- the ambien is def the best (would def keep me asleep for 7 hours) but out of fear of addiction to it I would take the trazodones every other night- they wouldn;t work as well- but they wouldn't make me feel any worse then I already did. My advice- use the ambien on a night you know you are going to need sleep....
Avatar n tn I have been on a slew of psychiatric meds since last March including Ambien, Ambien CR, Effexor, Lexapro, Trazodone and now Zoloft and Clonazepam. Most SSRIs cause me to have insomnia which is why my psych prescribed Trazodone. However, I had a very bad experience two weeks ago where I even had to call 911 because I felt like I was having a heart attack. I know what a panic attack is and this was not anything like I had experienced before.
Avatar n tn my bf was diagnosed w/ hep c 6 years ago, has had 2 biopsies w/ the 2nd one last month showing small changes to his liver, but no recommendation for treatment yet. anyway, he has a hard time sleeping, ambien doesnt always help, and he also has some depression, so we thought this might be a good medication for him. thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Ambien sounds strong also and I read it makes you do some incredible and possibly dangerous things in your sleep. I do have a couple sample pills of both ambien and trazodone. Is there any harm in trying one for two days, wait a day and try the other the next two nights just to see what works best?. Would one .25 mg. of xanax taken every other day, or even every night at say 2 a.m. be habit forming should I go that route?
Avatar f tn and it is cheap, costing as little as 10 cents a pill. (Ambien and Lunesta can cost $3 a pill or more.) And in the only sizable study to compare trazodone with Ambien as a sleep aid, the two drugs performed equally well.
582281 tn?1267822196 Well if the Trazodone works well as a sleep aid you can always roll over and use the 4 hour erection for a kick stand to prevent you from falling out of bed.
Avatar f tn Both Ambien and Trazodone have Sedative Propertive. Perhaps you were taking too much Ambien? Why not just stick with one DR. at one health system if you need both Ambien and Trazodone instead of bouncing back and forth across town? I have RX. for Ambien too..but I digress.
649598 tn?1239117215 The antidepressant meds work on a different area of the brain than the CNS Depressant sleep meds, such as Ambien, and sometimes the meds such as trazodone work better for some people than the actual sleep meds. On the other hand, I had an unpleasant reaction to trazodone, so in my case concomitant use of antidepressants, Klonopin, and Ambien CR works best for me.
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
Avatar f tn I have been taking Ambien for a yr and a half. It isn't working for me anymore, so my neurologist prescribed Trazodone. I have had a lot more stress lately and this is supposed to help with anxiety and depression. I really hate taking anything new. I'm nervous. I have read the side effects. They always freak me out. Is anyone or has anyone taken this before? If so, did it help with sleeplessness? Thanks everyone!!
Avatar m tn My doctor offered me Lunesta, but I'm not excited about another pill. I haven't slept much for two weeks and wondered if it was worth a try. Melatonin and Benadryl haven't helped much.
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
620048 tn?1358018235 I understand but I have had trouble sleeping for years and I used to just suffer...I was so glad to finally sleep. But then while in the hospital they took me off of the ambien and I didn't sleep for days, they finally let me have the trazodone which helped at the time, I was so happy to just get some sleep meg.
2065212 tn?1334584906 t need the Klonopin but for tonight, just take the trazodone and ask the doctor about it in the morning. The trazodone will get you drowsy so I wouldn't take them together.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take trazodone if i cant sleep and I am on a regular geodon 80mg and depakote 1000mg (devide by am/pm) also with cogentin?
