Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and lithium

ambien

2080404 tn?1643113754 My doctor just took me off Lithium and what I was taking to sleep- Trazadone- and switched me to Tegretol and Ambien. I have Bi polar type II and Borderline Personality Disorder with Ultradian cycles. I just joined this site while doing absent-minded research browsing on the two disorders and decided "why not?". Set up a profile and even trackers which is something else. But I can't help but find purely scientific facts about the medicines, has anyone been on them?
Avatar f tn Thanks for asking the question, bulldozer. I will be lurking for the answer. (Have been on low dose of Lithium for about a year; first 300, now 600; taking half in the morning, half in the evening. Never had a blood test.
Avatar f tn It took a few months of playing with the meds they add to it to get it right. Now i am on lithium celexa and ambien and it seems to be no trouble since october other than me gaining weight.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would get off the lithium I was on it when first diagnosed with Bi poalr and I hated it for the very reason you stated. I now take celexa and zyprexa now for 7 years and I do great on them. I take them at night and they help lots to regulate my sleep as wellNow if I just didnt have to get up to go pee.LOL talk to your doc about changing your meds. good luck and let me know how it goes for you.
750172 tn?1256147076 Hi, I was just googling Ambien and Lexapro and read your question. I take Ambien here and there, since I have trouble staying asleep, and have recently become severely depressed and got some Lexapro from a friend, (I know not the best thing to do, but... such is life), but wanted to know if you had any issues taking the two.
744637 tn?1250803022 Thank you for your advice. I forgot to mention that i am taking valium and ambien as well as lithium. I've taken many other meds for this and am allergic to most. I just dont really know what to do anymore.
Avatar f tn Ativan and Ambien, only serve to worsen the depresive state in these patients. Lithium carbonate tends to work better for both, high anxiety and depresive states.
142722 tn?1281533616 Hi I'm pregnant to :) due 7th August 2010. I've been on depakote and lithium and doing really well on it but as soon as I discovered I was pregnant I've had to come off the depakote. I'm seeing my psych on Monday to discuss what's happening with the lithium, I understand there can be issues with this during the last trimester of pregnancy. I'm hoping I can continue with the lithium as I don't want to be off all my medication.
202665 tn?1248806733 Besides the medications I take for depression and BP (Cymbalta, lamictal, lithium), I've also been tking 50mg of Trazadone and 10mg of Ambien nightly for about 6 months. Sometimes it works...sometimes not. If I miss a certain window of time to take the night drugs...I'm wired instead of sleepy. I will stay up until 3-4a wandering around..eventually get a couple hours sleep, and still have high energy the next day...or couple days...until I crash.
2080404 tn?1643113754 I have BPD and Bipolar disorder and have been on Lithium, Trazadone, Tegretol, Prozac, Zoloft, Lamictal, Seroquel, Ambien, and Abilify. They seem to work but they still don't stop the cycles enough, I'll have more okay days but will have two or three depressed or manic, all within a week. That's not counting the anxiety attacks that make me dissociate.
1133317 tn?1264881827 I am on lamictal, xanax, ambien and in the process of weining off oxycotin for a back injury i suffered due to a car accident. I never had these concerns bc i was just diagnosed with borderline personailty disorder and bi polar II in june of 08. So my previous pregnancies I was not taking any medications This time around I am on multiple and worst of all a opiatewhich is going to be the hardiest off all to wein off. My doctor has assured me that the 3 meds i listed above all safe.
Avatar n tn I am trying to get her to have her lithium levels checked but she thinks she is fine (part of the disease), she is not sleeping well and not resting, physically pushing herself which makes swelling and pain from RA worse (had to stop Enbrel, Arava and Methotrexate to begin chemo). Still using patch and morphine tabs for pain, ambien for sleep and there are more meds.
Avatar f tn of mirtazapine (Remeron) with 50 mg. Lamactil. I also take xanax in a low dose (currently weaning off), and use Ambien 10 mg. for sleep. (which I am also going to wean off of.) Overall, they are effective, but mirtazapine has appetite issues (you always want to snack so you have to really watch weight - already gained about 15 lbs. in 1 yr.). Good luck working with your Dr. on this...
1172209 tn?1263427216 I've been on lithium for several years. At first I gained weight but after I got used to it my body just levelled off. If I was worried about anything it was the depression that was making me gain weight not only from eating but also not moving around much. If lithium gives you a few extra pounds it might be an ok thing if you get your life back. You have to watch your salt intake. Sure too much is bad but having the levels fluctuate isn't so good either.
717440 tn?1292743742 Hi, once in a while when I take my meds without food, I feel very ill, almost flu-like. I get hot and cold and hang out by the toilet. my pdoc hasn't sent me for bloodwork in a few months or more (can't remember last time I went... ok, I checked my calendar; Nov 19 and I started lithium Nov 27). I have a thyroid problem and it runs in the family. I've already been told to look for a new pdoc. I just want to know what the symptoms are if you are getting toxic from the lithium...
Avatar f tn I have also developed a thyroid nodule (after 2 years on lithium) and am taking 100 mcg of synthroid a day. Did the lithium cause the thyroid problem and is it reversible if the lithium is stopped?
Avatar n tn I guess there are a lot of side effects though from the lithium. So if anyone has also had lithium with RAI please post!
Avatar m tn my son on high dose of lithium he is having memory lost problems and problem focusing !!!! is ant body had similar problems with lithium also ??????
Avatar m tn lithium can cause bac to get really high, and sometimes its hard to tell when someone is drunk when taking lithium , atleast that is my experience, its a salt so it affects the body in hydration , so does alcohol , both dehydrate,
607502 tn?1288247540 m on Cymbalta for depression, a combination of lamictal and litium to stabalize, trazadone and sometimes ambien to try and sleep. The high's are less high and low's less low. Alot of the time i just feel "numb". the suicidal thoughts are still there as they have been for over the last 20 years...but the feeling/need to act on them are very rare.
1100156 tn?1323923521 I have had fairly good luck with a combination of Lithium and Seroquel. The Lithium for mood stabilization, and the Seroquel to help with sleeping. The latter is, of course, not a sleeping pill, but an antipsychotic that doubles as a very effective sleep aid. You could ask your p-doc if this would be right for you.
1102283 tn?1257817472 The problem with Lithium Carbonate is that the dosage needed is very high, and it requires blood monitoring to avoid toxicity. Lithium Orotate, on the other hand, is more bio-available, and safer than the Lithium Carbonate. The reason for this is that Lithium Orotate can be used at very low doses and is still effective. Dr. Jonathon Wright, who incidentally takes Lithium Orotate himself, recommends 10 to 20 milligrams of Lithium Orotate daily as a preventive measure. Dr.
Avatar m tn I've been on Lithium for approx. 20 yrs for bipolar disorder and the disorder ruined my life; it distroyed my career, family and my economic standing. I know many others have suffered as I have but I just wanted to get it out in the open. I bounced back a few times but it popped up again, why I don't know. If it was because I faild to take my meds, I'm not sure but I did have a few doctors that didn't know what they were doing.
