Avatar n tn How can it be an allergy when he does not have any allergy symptoms? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had pneumonia 6 months ago, which was treated with antibiotics. I got well but my cough continued. I cough (mostly dry with some mucus) throughout the day and it cough bouts are horrible at nights. I ignored the cough thinking it will fade away. Few months ago, I started experiencing breathlessness and tightness in chest alongwith coughing. My doctor said it was allergy and prescribed some medicines for lowering eosinophil count. It did not work.
Avatar n tn I am certain you are both suffering with these symptoms she is experiencing. I would suggest a trip to the doctor as there may be something that can be done to get her relief. The symptoms may be benign, but if you are both losing sleep over it, I would make an appt. for her. Good luck and please let us know what the doctor says.
Avatar f tn Lost my voice, got it back, but with this persisitant dry sudden cough, that can come anytime. I wake up with it, usually a coughing fit lasts from anywhere from 1-10 mins. After the coughing is over, i have to constantly clear my throat, until all the choaking sensation is gone. Its almost like swallowing into the wrong side of your throat.
Avatar f tn s, cat scans, allergy tests only show grass, weeds as allergy related. He could have post-nasal drip causing him to cough. Elevate his bed (pillows under mattress) portion. He could also have "reflux" and should try otc prevacid for acid reflux..stay away from spicy foods.Try using the neti pot (which has done wonders for me vs. medication) which can clear up some of the mucus that is dripping down the back of his throat. Mucinex 12hr.
Avatar f tn Hi, Sorry about your situation. I know how miserable a chronic cough can be. I am not really familiar with losartan, but if it falls in the family of blood presure medications known as beta blockers it certainly can be the cause of your cough. Ace inhibitors have a much lower risk of causing the cough, and most people who have problems with beta blockers do well on them. I hope that helps you a little. God bless.
Avatar n tn My pediatrician wants me to take my son for allergy testing, but his only symptom is coughing. He has no other symptoms, has had a chest and sinus X-ray, which were normal. He has had antibiotics and steroids. The cough has not gone away. Not sure why he thinks it is an allergy... Please advise. Thanks!
1183343 tn?1300883165 Food allergy is an immune system reaction that occurs soon after eating a certain food. Even a tiny amount of the allergy-causing food can trigger signs and symptoms such as digestive problems, hives or swollen airways. In some people, a food allergy can cause severe symptoms or even a life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis. Food allergy affects an estimated 6 to 8 percent of children under age 5, and about 3 to 4 percent of adults.
Avatar m tn Therapy is with bronchodilators which cause the airways to dilate. Your symptoms could also be due to COPD or Bronchiectasis. The other causes could be due to Bronchitis or Cystic fibrosis. You will need to consult your doctor. He may even ask for repeat blood test and an X ray. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals.
Avatar f tn Pulmonology seems to think I have allergies (no history or allergies and no allergy symptoms other than cough). My ekg was nornal. I’m just looking for thoughts on this cough. It is wearing me down. I’m exhausted.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The symptoms described could be due to a throat infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn my baby 1yr 3mnths aged, having ige 236 iu/ml, having severe cough & vomitting tendency & breathing problem, please tell me the precaution & treatment.
Avatar f tn Your cough sounds very similar to mine. I get the symptoms with my eyes, ears and nose too. I've had my cough now for around two months. I was diagnosed with bronchitis. You could have it too... You'd need antibiotics to treat it. But if not then it could be some kind of allergy that hasn't been found yet. Maybe you have a dust allergy. Or, if your house has damp patches, it could be a mould allergy.
Avatar n tn My concern is, he has a constant, chronic, seemingly productive cough. He is always able to cough something up and it seems over the last few weeks to be getting worse. The doctors increased his flovent from 44 mcg 2 puffs twice a day, to 110 mcg 2 puffs twice a day, proventil 2 puffs as needed (doing this often these days), nasonex 1 squirt each nostril once a day, singulair 4mg cheable once a day, zyrtec cough medicine as needed.
Avatar f tn I have asthma and went to the hospital due to not being able to breathe and a very bad cough. Its been a couple of days but nothing has improved. What can I take to ease the cough.
Avatar f tn I had a terrible head cold for almost a week, finally getting over it. My Dr specifically said NOT Musinex; it contains an active ingredient that can be a risk factor. The others are fine, like Tylenol cold&flue, or Tylenol sinus& allergy. Also benadryly might help. Honestly, you just have to treat the symptoms and hang in there until it passes. I basically ate cough drops, used vicks vapor rub and a humidifier, and tissues with lotion. Drink ridiculous amounts of water!
Avatar f tn t have shortness of breathe and I am supposedly allergic to ragweed and sensitive to grass and pollen but have never had any noticeable symptoms. I do not smoke, I do not have any lung problems, and I do not work with strange chemicals. I had pertussis when I was very young ( I am 21 now) but I don't think that has anything to do with this. I can take breaths fine but the coughing interrupts my full breaths.
Avatar m tn The PPD is positive in this infection. This is correlated with clinical symptoms, like cough, evening rise of temperature, weight loss and blood tests, which will show a raised ESR and increased lymphocyte count, if it is an active infection. If your symptoms persist please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar n tn As suggested above your symptoms could be due to Asthma. Cough, chest tightness and breathlessness t are the triad of symptoms for Asthma. It is a disease affecting the lungs causing narrowing of the airways, usually due to an allergic reaction to triggering factors. Therapy is with bronchodilators which cause the airways to dilate.
Avatar m tn You may want to request a methylcholine challenge test which is the standard for asthma diagnosis, although the people I know with cough variant asthma may have passed that as well. Cough variant asthma is harder to diagnose as it doesn't show on standard testing, especially not on peak flows. Some doctors will accept a successful trial of albuterol as a reason to give a diagnosis of asthma.
Avatar f tn I have switched to a different pediatrician and will request these test. May I ask one more question? Could her chronic cough be caused by mold or a dog?
