Common Questions and Answers about Allergy medicine expiration

allergies

Avatar m tn I couldn't really find a place to post this. I got some medicine but right now I am fine and know I don't need it. If I ever get in the position where I will need to take this medicine it will be when my stress levels are much higher and this won't be for a year or so. I got three different medications and they all had the exact same 1 year lifespan. I know they just put this to make you buy more and not save it or else they'd at least have different expiration periods.
Avatar m tn While the effect of the medicine may not decline, the sterility cannot be assured years after the expiration date. Most pharmacists I have asked say the drop is good for 6 months past the expiration date, as long as the solution is not discolored or was exposed to extremes of temperature.
Avatar f tn You can only take benedryl, nothing else.

152264 tn?1280354657 Is an unopened bottle of Systane that's 1.5 years past its expiration date safe to use? At least until I can get to the store for a fresh bottle?
Avatar f tn t typicly affected by anything unless it has a strange allergy to something. Even then your baby barely recieves a trace of what you in jest at the worst you may get an upset stomach.
Avatar f tn as well as afrin and a couple of allergy medicines (not all allergy medicines though)...every pregnancy is different though and every Dr is different as to what they prefer so I would definitely call.
Avatar m tn The expiration date on a medicine is not the date it suddenly becomes ineffective or even dangerous to use. It's an inventory mechanism like expiration date on bread. There is an ophthalmologist in our office that collects out of date eye drops and takes them to a third world country where he does missionary work and they are quite effective. Also the US government has a strategic stockpile of drugs to use in case of war or huge domestic disaster. About 10% goes out of date each year.
Avatar f tn hi all, I've been slowly increasing my dose of levothyroxine for the last three months and every time I go back to get my TSH tested my numbers don't change much. I was prescribed a 50mcg tablet back in November and had been cutting them in half and I had two 60 day supplies, so i am still using the same bottles.
1754037 tn?1327886811 What kind of allergy medicIne can a pregnant person take when sick? I already took Tylenol for my fever. I have running nose & keep sneezing! Ugh!!! Pls. help me! I feel so miserable! I am 34 weeks pregnant & my baby shower is tommorow! I want to feel semi better by then!
Avatar f tn You should NEVER give a prescription medication to someone for whom it hasn't been prescribed. It not only could be dangerous (say, suppose they have an allergy to it that they/you are not aware of), but it's also illegal to give someone a medication that has not been prescribed for them. I would think the 4 advil would be ok for him, based on his weight, however, I would make sure he took them with food, as they can be very hard on the stomach.
Avatar f tn If it's allergy related you can take Claritin... Or however it is spelled. If it's cold related really you can only take Tylenol cold and flu. Web MD has a list... Here is the link http://www.m.webmd.com/baby/guide/taking-medicine-during-pregnancy?
Avatar n tn Most everything lasts a while past expiration before deterioration, including food. Expiration dates have a margin of safety built in. That being said, the above is true, but vitamins usually have way more that anyone needs in them so a little deterioration in potency isn't that big a deal depending on why you're taking them. After all, much of them just goes down the toilet anyway, so again, a margin of safety is built in there, too.
152264 tn?1280354657 There should be an expiration date on the package--if its expired then I would not use it; pesticides can break down and become less effective or more toxic with time.
Avatar n tn Which brands of these beverages have you been drinking? It could be other ingredients that you're allergic to. Consult a doctor, and they'll test you for the various things in them, and hopefully give you medication to prevent it from happening again.
Avatar f tn Then I get short-of-breath, have wheezing esp. on expiration. I had allergy testing done and have some allergies and chronic sinusiits. Finally ENT sent me to pulmonolgist. Pulmonary function tests were normal but she thinks I have asthma. I am on Xopenex inhaler and Quvar inhaler. Recently having more attacks and having to use the Xopenx more so she ordered antibiotic and 1 week of predinose.
Avatar m tn Has anybody experience these little itchy rashes? And is allergy medicine like Benadryl or zertac safe with having hbv? Dr on vacation for next three weeks.
Avatar n tn These were precribed to me but I noticed the bottle expiration date is 10/2008. I have almost full bottles so I haven't thrown them out. Can I consider these safe? My husband says yes.
Avatar f tn You may want to check and see if there is an expiration date. Even if the expiration date is past, there are still okay to use as the expiration date is for the packaging. Good luck.
