Common Questions and Answers about Allergies symptoms autism

allergies

Avatar n tn Hi, My 11 year old autistic son who is severe asd has recently been tested for allergies. He does not show any symptoms of allergies but I was curious due to having seen a behavioural change from a GFCF diet. His preliminary results have come back with a high IgE of 1777, when 2 - 170 is normal. Obviously I am awaiting further test results for us to identify and target what the actual allergy/allergies is.
Avatar n tn The unfounded assumption behind recommending that casein and gluten be restricted is that the processing of these substances causes many of the symptoms of autism. Beside the fact that most of the evidence provided as support for casein/gluten theory of autism comes from individuals involved in selling these products or diet-related advice, the lack of scientific acceptance of casein and gluten processing difficulties as a cause of autism is one good reason to be wary of this approach.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with asthma as a kid but they said it went away but sometimes it feels difficult to breathe when my allergies start, or when im outside, or if im laughing or coughing. So is there a chance it came back?
Avatar n tn There is much less information about potential immune system involvement in autism. There have been many reports of persons with autism having verified immune system "problems." This has led many people to suggest that there is immune system dysregulation involved. Most of this speculation occurs in fringe journals with relatively few large scale studies conducted by researchers clearly qualified to conduct such research. There is certainly a need for more study.
Avatar n tn There are many other reasons other than Autism has he any other behaviors , drooling , what is his speech like any problems there ? Does he get sore throats maybe good to have his tonsils checked .

1006035 tn?1485575897 We are in the process of transitioning an autism assistance dog into our family for our DD. He recently started having discharge from his eyes and they looked pretty irritated. I brought him to the vet and they said it was definitely pink eye and gave him some eye ointment. I find it so odd to put ointment in an eye...he doesn't seem to care though. Do you think he'll have allergies like this every year? He is a 2 year old labradoodle.
Avatar n tn I recently watched Larry King Live and the discussion with Jenny McCarthy about the possible causes of autism and some of the things she said left me a bit ill. She pointed out the list of vaccines comparative to 1983 to 2007 is a major difference, but I know my son hasn't had twenty-seven shots and currently he isn't having any more until his 5th year.
Avatar n tn For me this all doesn't make sense. Asthma is allergic, so how is it possible, he doesn't show any allergies. Since when is he diagnosed with autism? Try to get a different opinion from someone, who is experienced with autism plus physical pediatric problems.
231441 tn?1333892766 You have a valid concern. I think I would weight the odds of your daughter becoming very sick with these diseases or go on the fact that these vaccines have been around since I was born and I lived to tell about it. I know that you are afraid of the allergies and autism in your family, but as a mother myself, I don't think this was caused by vaccines that could save your child's life.
754367 tn?1233692384 We have had her in counceling and at times I thought she had ADD. Food allergies run in the family CORN ,WHEAT, CHOCOLATE. I have been doing alot of reading on food allergies being linked to behavior problems. What I was wondering is if anyone else has heard about this or delt with it?
Avatar f tn My son's doctor put my son on a diet that relates to ADHD, dairy free, gluten free and no chocolate. My son has no formal diagnosis as far as ADHD and has been completely ruled out for Autism. The diet is expensive and I'm having a hard time taking things from my son he loves with no diagnosis and to top that all off there doesn't seem to be any behavioral effects. What sort of science is this special diet based on?
1776239 tn?1314340944 t be a common issue seen in Autism. Allergies or chemical sensativites are possible, more so if he was taking any medications, sun reactions are sometimes associated with some types of medications. My son was allergic to sun block when he was younger but i'd say 2nd degree chemical burn is a bit beyond the usual types of reactions to sun block, have you tried googling the product?
Avatar n tn my little girl is 3. docs gave her a temp diagnosis of autism because at the time, she really couldn't hear.
Avatar f tn I was also cruising by the autism speaks forum yesterday…to see what side they stand with autism. I was a bit disappointed but I can’t blame the parents there, because all too often parents follow the mainstream and hope to find something to “cure” their child rather than accept them for the person they are. Some of the parents there still think autism is caused by bad parenting! Yesterday I was also browsing you-tube watching a few home videos people made of their autistic children.
Avatar f tn I been suggesting he has autism.. he has a lot of sensory issues and has a hard time transition.. my question would be if 2 occupational therapists has id. him with sensory processing disorder.. does he fall in the spectrum or does he also have mild autism... and they arent able to see it... he also has a behavioral issue at home... when he gets mad cant control his anger and he breaks thing. (tv screen, computer screen, and broke a mirror with fits..
Avatar m tn In the last twenty years, there has been an epidemic increase in allergies, asthma, auto-immune disorders, ADHD, and autism, Today, it is estimated that 20% of American children have allergies. So, reverting back to natural, organic, fresh and nutritionally food should help resolve the allergic reactions. Also, if a person is healthy and eating a normal balanced diet, he does not need any further supplements.

5274485 tn?1385860167 Anytime a girl represents signs of Autism, her symptoms will be different than males. Girls with Autism tend to not show the reckless behavior which is observed in males. Autism affects girls different than males. The actual number of girls/women with Autism is not as often reported because the signs are often missed in female population.
Avatar n tn This question is regarding my 3 yr old girl who was is showing symptoms of ADHD. During the pregnancy a few things happened, the first day after conception I drank quite a bit of alcohol, smoked cigaretted for 11 days into it and did not start taking prenatal vitamins until the 3rd week. The remainder of the pregnancy was extremely healthy as far as my lifestyle, also I have always paid much attention to nutrition etc so am pretty sure enough nutrients were stored up.
Avatar f tn impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and obsessive or repetitive routines and interests. Most professionals agree that the earlier the intervention, the better. Medications: Doctors often prescribe an antidepressant medication to handle symptoms of anxiety, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Anti-psychotic medications are used to treat severe behavioral problems.
Avatar f tn They always say, if you see one child with autism thats just it, you have seen one child with autism no 2 are the same. For your child and early detection i would see a autism specialist or early childhood development. Good luck, i wish you.the best!
1006035 tn?1485575897 Right now there are service dogs provided for people suffering from autism, seizures, diabetes, blindness, deafness, allergies, asthma, depression, and the newest ones of all: endometriosis. I'm sure we'll see even more types of dogs as time goes and people are more aware of what service dogs can do. Maybe we'll even start to see even more service cats? I've heard of them, although they are more rare that dogs.
