Common Questions and Answers about Allergies and babies

allergies

Avatar f tn I had a pediatrician Once Tell me that babies are not born with allergies. He said that allergies are acquired over time. It may be a short amount of time or years but he said that they are not born with allergies. Not sure why and sorry I don't have the why/proof. That's just what my first baby's pediatrician told me about 4 years ago. I know babies can be sensitive to certain things we mommies consume while they are in the womb. Do you have a concern with your baby?
Avatar n tn Yes of course just don't leave them alone together, kittens are curious and will scratch and babies are the same, curious and will pull tails lol
Avatar f tn So I've read and heard a lot about babies and pets. It's suppose to help the baby with asthma and allergies. Just wondering if anyone else is getting a pet after they deliver because I'm thinking about getting a puppy. Just want others opinions.
571042 tn?1271447141 Do any of your babies have allergies to food? I don't know what to look for. I know the dramatic symptoms of airway constriction etc but I don't know any of the minor ones. Blake gets rashes occasionally from colognes from her daddy hugging her but they go away within a few minutes so I am never too concerned I just keep an eye on it. Blake does have an issue with formula. :( She has to be on soy formula because milk based formula gives her awful gas and diarrhea.
Avatar f tn The top food allergies are milk, soy, egg, wheat, and peanut. ANd now some babies are intolerant of glutien! That is a hard one to know of and it may not be a total allergy but something that while the babies gut is not developed it bothers them. If moms so not rid thier diets of the problem things baby will continue to suffer.
Avatar f tn s having tummy problems my daughter was about 4 wks and she had a protein allergies and had to be on a special formula! She could have gas.... the list goes on and on! And sorry hun but UT going to be emotional and tired that's what babies do to u!
Avatar f tn Unable to eat because I always have these flu like symptoms, major migranes, and joint pains, nausea, vomiting and dyhradation many ER visits. So I dedcided to look into what I ate and noticed that dairy, seafood, beef, caffeine, chocolate any sugar. These things made my stomach cramp, constipation, migranes, fatigue, dizzy, cold like symptoms, itching. Yet I had been having these symptoms for many years they said I had IBS.
Avatar f tn Okay I have cats and my husband changes the cat box for me but my mom has a lot of cats and I never changed the cat boxes at her house but I could smell them ( she is also never home and leaves them there at her house with nobody there with them) she would clean the house but I still could smell it she also had a dog in the house.
Avatar f tn What is more helpful is developing a nighttime routine that helps to destimulate- a nice tub, a little massage with some soft lotion and and a yummy feeding. All helps to relax. And in fairness to your baby and you thinking they should be sleeping through the night is putting too much pressure on both of you. She's still a newborn and it's completely normal that the baby is still waking.
2026902 tn?1369098398 The playgroup and first time parent forms are not very active. My daughter is nice weeks and got all.her shots this past Thursday. Early this am her one eye was very watery and,red ( I thought she might have scratched her eye) Anyways this evening her eye was again a lil res and watery and her nose was a lil runny. Now when.she sneezed clear snot will come out. Her drs said babies don't start to.show signs of allergies until they are about 6 months. Any thoughts?
172826 tn?1423422956 but my son is 33 months old. just a lil over 2 and a half...we do have children with severe allergies to peanuts and bananas.. even to the point that a child came in with the smell of peanuts on his breathe and i sent the little girl into an anaphylactic shock. I just dont think that a daycare should have the right to force a child to be tested for foods which is proven to be allergic to, especially when the pediatrician whom is also an asthma specialist says no.
419158 tn?1316571604 Anyone ever hear of babies being allergic to milk products and soy?? My poor DD has had diarrha (sp?) since birth. I brought her in at one week old because her butt was so raw (no rash) that it was bleeding from me changing so many poopy diapers. They had me switch her formula from reg similac to the sensitive stuff. She got better for about a week. Then she started gettng diarrha again.
Avatar m tn Hi Paxiled and karajo and thank you for the advice and help.I have decided to stop taking Vit C and start taking multi vitamins instead. I will also investigate the items you have mentioned.
Avatar f tn Most everything you hear about cats and babies are old wives tales. The biggest problem is cats are craters of habit so when things change in their environment they tend to act up. There is a lot of information on how to slowly get your cat ready for baby during pregnancy. The ASPCA has info has do many many websites. Starting now can minimize problems when baby comes. As with all animals we of course have to watch then carefully around baby and some just won't adjust but most can.
Avatar f tn Take one regular strength Tylenol (if u dont have allergies of course) and drink lots of fluids and you'll feel better in few hours like I did :)
541150 tn?1306033843 ve always had cats right along with the babies and never had a problem with allergies. IMO allergies have an increased chance of developing when a baby has never been exposed to animals....since their bodies have never had the opportunity to develop antibodies. You may need to have a mother son talk with Abby tho about sleeping with you, this will really be hard for Abby to understand for awhile...
Avatar f tn Typically premies catch up within 2 years, however I have two semi-premies (5 weeks early) and they get sick a lot. My oldest has a ton of allergies as well, hers are food allergies though.
Avatar f tn Ive never heard that. Amd its not like the peanut makes any contact with the fetus. Just the nutrients in it does. Id say its fine, especially since wic program gives you peanut butter.
Avatar f tn Walk them constantly attention constantly plus house training and trying to keep it from chewing and peeing on babies toys/furniture or even the baby itself.
Avatar f tn The color of the boogers doesn't relate to if he's sick or not. Its more so related to hydration (just like your pee, the darker the more dehydrated) Its very common for new babies to sneeze a lot, doesn't mean he's sick, and babies that young do not generally get respiratory allergies (usually they have to be exposed to the allergens for several months)... As long as he has no fever and is eating/ urinating well then you don't need to worry.
Avatar f tn No baby will be fine. Its not aerosol. :) and babies dont have allergies at birth, its something they will develop if they will get them.
Avatar n tn Peanut butter is good for u and baby.
400885 tn?1297698918 Our pediatrician was hard core about not starting until the baby was 6 months. It had something to do with food allergies. I can't remember exactly - he said to deter from food allergies. I cheated and started my son maybe 2 weeks before he was exactly 6 months. You always hear stories of babies choaking on the food or whatever but our son did just fine - no choaking and took the food well. It's a personal choice if you ask me.
Avatar f tn I'm allergic to eggs, my fiancee has asthma, and we both have skin allergies due to detergents, deodorant, etc. we just want to know how early we can do an allergy test.
Avatar f tn Hello, As your child is showing rashes on touching of milk, this means he is allergic to milk proteins. Fortunately, most babies outgrow milk allergies by their second or third year. Babies who develop cow's milk protein allergy may have one or several of the symptoms like eczema or skin rash, abdominal pain or cramps, vomiting or diarrhea. I feel that you should consult an allergy specialist and get skin ***** or patch tests done.
Avatar n tn in the meantime drink TONS and TONS of water AND make sure your bladder is completley full and ready to burst before your next ultrasound. if your baby does have kidneys, this will help you to produce fluid which might in turn help the tech to locate something not seen before. i believe low amounts of fluid can affect how well the baby can be seen via ultrasound, and i'd imagine the kidneys are very hard to find.
Avatar f tn After the baby is born the cats were more scared and curious than anything. Its more of an old wives tale to keep cats away from babies. I personally would be and am scared of dogs around my infant and small children.
