Avatar n tn high specific gravity means high specific gravity, protein in the urine is a different measurement that is easily checked. Traces of protein are of no concern and often mean many things other than kidney disease.
Avatar n tn Some protein is normal in the urine. A 24 hour estimation of protein loss in urine would be optimal to estimate the level of proteinuria. Conditions which can cause proteinuria are nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, dehydration, collagen vascular diseases, strenuous exercises, diabetes mellitus, infections, multiple myeloma etc. I would suggest that you repeat the urine analysis again and take the opinion of your urologist to rule out the conditions mentioned above.
Avatar n tn My husband is suffering with kidney stones and he got surgery for 3 times (only right kidney and left kidney is normal and no stones and it is functioning properly) and after that his body got swollen completely and after many checkups including biopsy, it is determined that he is losing proteins due to the dysfunction in the filteration of Kidney. Now he is loosing 11 gms of proteins when he undergone protein loss check up. His legs, stomach and face is completely swelling.
622940 tn?1252515107 Where as presence of protein indicates damages to the tubular apparatus of the nephron. Proteinuria can be present in cases of nephrotic syndrome, kindney failure, pyuria, chronic infections etc. Both the symptoms occur due to damaging two different parts of the nephron, but these symptoms can occur simultaneously. It is a serious condition and would require immediate evaluation and treatment. All the best.
Avatar m tn Other factors though have to be considered like liver disease as well as certain factors like diet. However, the focus appears to be that of the kidneys. The edema or swelling in the extremities may also help strengthen the differential of an underlying kidney disorder. I know you are very worried about this.To allay your fears, you need to discuss this with your physician so you may be guided accordingly. It is necessary to be proactive about this. You may need to be followed up closely.
Avatar m tn Hello, If you are passing urine too fast and it is concentrated the urine can be foamy. Drink ample amounts of fluids. If the symptoms persist then proteinuria can be the cause. It can happen due to renal causes or other causes like infections, sarcoidosis, multiple myeloma, and SLE. I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Hello, Protein in urine is due to diabetic nephropathy (damage to the kidneys because of diabetes) or due to a compromised kidney function. Firstly, the cause of the proteinuria has to be found out. The treatment will depend on the same. For that a battery of tests are required like 24 hrs urinary excretion, all the kidney function tests. Mild proteinuria can occur due to a number of conditions and can go away on its own. Please do consult a nephrologist for examination.
Avatar m tn How are you? Proteinuria is an abnormally high amount of protein in the urine. Proteins from the blood can escape into the urine when the filters of the kidney, called glomeruli, are damaged. These are the most common causes: high blood pressure, infection, reflux nephropathy, diabetes, glomerulonephritis or minimal change nephritis. The first goal of treatment is to treat the underlying cause. It is important that anyone with proteinuria is monitored regularly.
Avatar m tn However, persistently foamy urine can be a sign of protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and retrograde ejaculation and prostatitis in men are the other causes. Also anemia, hypothyroidism, diabetes should be ruled out. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar f tn My husband has recently been referred to a urologist due to increased levels of protein in his urine. I am wondering if this can be caused by the fact that he drinks 4-6 pints of squash a day. I told him to mention this to the urologist but he is being stubborn and insists its not a possibility - maybe hes right but I just want to rule it out. Any ideas?!
Avatar m tn The exact numbers depend on a variety of factors such as medical history, symptoms present and how the kidney functions- the creatinine and GFR levels. Proteinuria in excess of 3.5 g per day warrants further evaluation by a kidney specialist to rule out nephrotic syndrome. Additional diagnostic tests such as glomerular filtration rate, renal ultrasound, and possible intravenous urography and serological screening for autoantibodies and complement level. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Persistently foamy urine can be a sign of protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. In your case it appears to have been ruled out. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and retrograde ejaculation are 2 other possibilities. In men, the most common source of the infection is the prostate gland (prostatitis). Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn Pancreatic Cancer may present with upper abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, yellowing of skin and the whites of the eyes, loss of appetite, weight loss, depression and blood clots. It is good that the initial CT scan was normal. It is important that you discuss the results with your attending physician for proper evaluation. Additional diagnostic tests such as endoscopic ultrasound or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) may be indicated.
Avatar m tn Hello, You are having protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. Your complete kdieny function tests should be done along with an ultrasound KUB (kidney urinary bladder). For high proteins and cholesterol, follow a diet that restricts both salt and protein. In addition follow a diet recommended for promoting cardiovascular health.
Avatar m tn and everything checked out and the doctor said i was a very healthy individual. but he found traces of protein in my urine. and he wants me to pee in a cup before i go to bed,at night if i have to,and in the morning when i wake up. and then my mother is to take it back to him.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? The presence of protein in urine (proteinuria) is due to failure of kidney to filter the body fluids. This can occur due to infections to the kidney, hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, nephrotic syndrome etc. Although a single measure of protein in a urine sample has less significance. I would suggest that you get a 24 hour urine collection and estimation of protein in that. This is a reliable method to assess the condition.
Avatar m tn can migranes cause light dizziness in the back of the head for months.?
Avatar n tn or something like that. And protien in urine is usually a sign of Preeclampsia. ESPECIALLY with the HBP you have..... Im shocked as to why your doc didnt even mentian this to you???!!!!! Research it, im *almost* positive youve got preeclampsia, bc of Protien and HBP.
1527017 tn?1291671470 Proteinuria is the protein in the urine when it exceeds the level of 150 mg/day.Proteinuria can be checked for free proteins like protein C or particularly albumin.More proteins in the urine could indicate that the kidneys are failing.Proteinuria is not a disease but a symptom that indicates underlying pathology.Proteinuria may occur in association with other symptoms like hematuria, edema, hypertension, hypoalbuminemia, hypercholestrolemia, hyperlipemia, elevated serum creatinine and ASO.
Avatar n tn However, persistently foamy urine can be a sign of protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. If you're concerned about foamy urine, consult your doctor. He or she may recommend a urine analysis, which can detect protein in urine. If protein is detected in your urine, your doctor likely will recommend additional tests to determine the cause.
Avatar n tn Hi, You must have microscopic hematuria if you do not observe the blood grossly in the urine.Microscopic hematuria refers to presence of rbc's in the urine detected through microscopic examination. This may be benign in origin. Engaging in heavy exercises prior to giving your urine sample may cause hematuria. History of intake of certain medications my also cause benign hematuria. Your previous history of repeated infections may alo contribute to the hematuria.
Avatar f tn You may also need 24 hours urine test, random protein to creatinine ratio to check the kidney status and a serum and urine protein electrophoresis test to determine which proteins are being excreted and in what quantities. Sometimes, some proteins will appear in the urine if the levels of protein in blood become high, even when the kidney is functioning properly. I suggest you to discuss these investigations with your urologist and get them done. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn With retrograde ejeculation, the semen enters the bladder as it finds the way of least resistance. In the case of surgery, TURP and resection, the sphyncter is somewhat damaged and during ejeculation the shyncter fails to close to outlet of the bladderneck. As a result semen in now forced into the bladder instead of out of the penis. Upon urination semen now is expelled out of the bladder and penis during the urination process.
Avatar m tn Elevated urinary protein may suggest proteinuria which may be a sign of kidney disease. Confirmatory testing and additional diagnostic tests may need to be done. If you have co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or both, it is important that blood glucose and blood pressure are controlled. It is best that you discuss the results with your attending physician for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn no i'm not on any meds my dr hasa had me on many differents kinds in the last year but just for Hormone Therapy. i'm just sick of all the test cause they show high levels of protein passing but the can't seem to find out why?
