Common Questions and Answers about Aldara forum

Avatar m tn Hello, I had discoloration on my penis when I applied Aldara to an area that was irritated from treatment with vinegar. This left it with a lighter pigment than the rest of the penis. Will this go away on its own, and if not, is there anything I can do about it?
Avatar m tn Hey everyone. I have posted on here before about my HPV. I was given aldara a couple months back and have been using it regularly since then. My question is how do I know when I can quit? I stopped for about a week when I went on vacation and forgot my packets and on the trip all my redness went away and things started looking better. When I got home and started using again it came right back. How di I know when I can quit? once the wart is gone... one the packets are all used? THanks!
Avatar n tn I really dont understand it, but evidently the bad cells are thru 3 layers of the vaginal wall. My dr prescribed Aldara vaginally, twice a week for 12 weeks. I've had my 4th treatment, and I'm not having fun. Within 24 hours after teatment I am crying in pain, muscle aches, joint pain, my skin over my whole body hurts. I also have vaginal itching, burning, but its not that bad. I also am having nausea, with upset stomach and vomiting. About 48 hours after the treatment, i begin to feel better.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. Imiquimod (Aldara) commonly causes irritation, including various combinations of redness, soreness, and sometimes overt ulceration of the treated tissues. In fact, that's how it works against warts -- causing inflammation in and around wart tissues. And herpes doesn't cause redness as it's only symptom. For confirmation, you should discuss this with the doctor or clinic that prescribed your imiquimod treatment.
Avatar n tn I was using aldara and it cleared be about 90%+ in about a month. Then it stopped working entirely...Have you heard of anything like this or know why it might happen. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar f tn I used aldara cream on my son for 2 weeks and he developed open sores. If I remeber well I applied the cream once or twice on the weakened skin. I have read all the horror stories about the cream and will like to know if there is a posssibility of damage to his immune system due to the use of this cream. he has mollocum contagiosum. He did not have any other side effects.
Avatar f tn you tried to post on someone else's post in the expert forum. you have to pay to post there. no, aldara won't cause you to not get your period. follow up with your gyn for this.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed Aldara cream for my genital warts and have a couple of questions. 1) My doctor told me to apply the cream all over the shaft of my penis & around the scrotum area - in order to help treat sub-clinical warts. Everything from the instructions on the cream to my reading on the internet says "apply directly to the warts and avoid contact with skin around the warts" What is your advice?
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum. Your dermatologist has much more experience using imiquimod (Aldara) than I do. We don't use it as the main warts treatment in our STD clinic and I have personally treated very few patients with it. Please confirm my replies with your dermatologist. 1) The research studies with imiquimod applied it only to overt, visible warts.
Avatar n tn The first medicine I tried was Aldara, when they first started showing up. All the Aldara served to do was eat apart my skin, scar my scrotum, and generally hurt really bad. I don't think even one wart disappeared in that time. Since then I've tried many "herbal" remedies and have had success with none of them. The only thing that seems to work is ripping the warts off myself, which was painful at first but works fairly well.
Avatar f tn Hello doc, I was diagnosed with genital warts and on Aldara cream for it. My wart went away quickly in about 2 weeks. Here’s my worry: I had mild skin irritation while I was on it, but a week after I had stopped the Aldara I developed a rash around my anus near where I had been using Aldara and I’m worried it’s herpes. It was a red rash. It itched, felt irritated, and the skin was shiny. I would compare it to mild sunburn. I never saw breaks in the skin: no blisters, ulcers, or scabs.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the Forum. Aldara tends to work best in warts which have recently appeared and it's activity is, at least in part, correlated with the reaction that it generates. If you have been using Aldara for 4 weeks with no effect and little local reaction, it is time to try something else such as freezing with liquid nitrogen. In answer to your specific questions however: 1. No, the location has little to do with response. Warts that have appeared more recently tend to respond better.
Avatar m tn I used Aldara successfully and never got any redness, pain ,etc. I had a wart under a fingernail once and the Dr prescribed Aldara with a bandage over the finger to keep the medicine on and in two weeks it was gone. Some HPV (genital warts do not respond to Aldara or freezing and must be zapped with a CO2 laser or cut out or burned out with the Hyfrecator (sp?) All people with visible genital warts should have them removed ASAP as they can cause cancer in females AND males.
Avatar n tn This is no question but rather a clarification. I have been using aldara for about a month and a half, and judgeing by the topics, several others need some guidence. I caught Molluscum contagium, maybe from the gym, maybe from sex who knows, who cares. I noticed some very small hybrid of pimples and warts in my gentital area. So of course, like most of you, I freaked. I am a healthy 21 year old male who has had a fairly modest sexual life (less than 10 partners, no one night stands).
Avatar n tn Ok, I wanted to ask a doctor, but that forum is closed for new questions. So here it is...all help is precious:) I think I might have genital warts. I am going to buy some white vinegar to make a home diagnosis, as the warts apparently turn white. If I have it, I know of various home treatments. Which should I try? Which is most effective? Condylox - apparently it is a weaker gel of podophyllin toxin, which burns off the warts. Has anyone used it? Where can I get it online?
Avatar n tn No, I meant Aldara might be the whole explanation. I'm not surprised if Aldara is making it worse.
1306047 tn?1333247191 I remember you from the past on this forum. Aldara can have side effects that you mention and was never something I was going to use. I agree with freezing or burning them off. The sooner they are gone, the better.
Avatar n tn 1) I have HPV and have been using aldara successfully whenever a new wart pops up. However, this week I had the worst reaction yet to the cream ( I think?!): Itching, burning, painful sores (which scab over in less than 1 day). This has persisted on one side of my body for 5 days now. I am worried that I have herpes. My right lypmh node is swollen as well in my genital area. The redness and swelling has subsided somewhat on the 5th day. Is this too short to be a herpes outbreak?
Avatar m tn I've been using Aldara for over two weeks now and am experiencing absolutely no side effects at all. Now I'm not disappointed believe me, but the one and only nice thing about side effects is that they indicate that whatever you are using is not "working" per-se but that it's doing *something*. Is this normal? Also, my doctor did a pretty deep freeze of the warts before sending me home with Aldara.
2206935 tn?1373642205 And please skip your last copy and pasted paragraph in every post, this is supposed to be a shared information forum and even the Dr.’s forum does not bore people with this information. Most know that advice over the internet is not the same as seeing a Doctor. I look forward to reading any information that you have. As a physician your comments are dangerous when they are not accurate and scare people!
4437866 tn?1388123224 I myself have warts as well and still treating it with aldara for 3x a day, but since you're pregnant, i dont know if it's advisable for you to use it since aldara is a strong treatment for genital warts. Have you tried to go to another doctor for second opinion since your doctor doesn't want to take action for it?Just try to go to another doctor so you will know what to do with it since your doctor is not giving you any information about HPV.
Avatar f tn As far as future precautions, you should make sure any sexual intercourse is protected in the future as sometimes it does take time for an infection to present itself- I'd also recommend posting in the HPV forum here so you can have more specific questions about your exposure answered by someone with a bit more information on HPV specifically- Hope that helps, I'm sure this is a very frustrating thing to have to walk through!
Avatar m tn He looked at the bumps for about 15 sec and said it was viral and that was it. He prescribed me Aldara and I've been using it for about 3 weeks now. My question to the forum is how well/soon did Aldara work for you? Since I've started using Aldara, I have noticed zero improvement so I'm just curious how long it took. And the doctor never said anything about genital warts, just that it was viral, is it common to prescribe Aldara for something other than genital warts?
Avatar n tn You should post this in the dermatology forum or the STD forum for doctor Handsfield. This is a support forum, which doctors usually dont respond to. If you want some professional advice or facts, I would definitely post your question in the STD thread. Doctor Handsfield is the most knowledgeable on this topic. In the meantime, other sufferers may be able to provide some personal experiences and treatments. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello, My fiance was recently diagnosed with genital warts and was treated for it with aldara cream. shortly after starting the aldara cream he experienced dry itching skin along with redness on his testicles. He made an appointment with the doctor and the doctor said that this was a yeast infection. This was treated with lamasil. I am wondering if the aldara cream could have caused the yeast infection as well as how long does it take for lamisil to cure the yeast infection?
Avatar m tn i have had a few genital warts for the past year and a half. i have had them burned off with TCA, liquid nitrogen, cut a few off myself, and tried aldara. anyways can HPV cause my penis to be red, dry and feel like its constantly burning? its driving me insane. my dermatologist said it just looks like irritation maybe from the aldara and to give it more time (try some hydrocortizone ointment) but its been about 2 months and its ruining my sex life and my life. Any help??
Avatar m tn this is not the doctor's forum- you have to pay to post there. really no way to tell at this point if this is a new hsv1 genital infection or not. do you have a regular partner?
Avatar n tn If so, fill the Aldara prescription and use it as directed. If not, or if she wasn't sure, using Aldara might just confuse things: If the bumps persist, they could still be warts (because Aldara works only 60-70% of the time); and if they go away, they might not be warts. If your doctor is uncertain, consider getting a second opinion, e.g. from your local health department STD clinic or perhaps a family planning clinic like Planned Parenthood.
Avatar n tn Hello Doctor, I am a 23 year old male who has broken out in a shingles rash beneath my left nipple. I was using Aldara cream to treat HPV and stopped about a month ago. While I was unfortunate enough to get HPV, I still consider myself low risk, that being I have had unprotected sex with women twice in the past year. Should these shingles be a warning sign of HIV?
