Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol allergy tongue

alcohol

Avatar f tn Since about last year, after almost everything I eat, I feel nauseated. Then recently i had a drink of alcohol, and immediately my mouth (lips and tongue) were swollen, along with difficulty breathing. Since then I stopped drinking alcohol, and it didn't happen for awhile until I went to the dentist for a filling. Immediately after she injected me, my lips and tongue started swelling up, and I again had trouble breathing. I also couldn't swallow.
Avatar n tn so my question is should i believe the doc or dentist? Avatar m tn Last night I had a terrifying experience. Now to preface, I traveled to Ireland- have drank Guinness for years. I'm 42 years old. Never had any issue with any alcohol or allergies (except to cat hair- but I would just have itchiness when around them). No food/ no medication allergies. Yesterday, after skipping lunch I had a fast food hamburger and coke (nothing new- had for years) for dinner on my way out for the night.
Avatar f tn Iron deficiency and Vit B6 or pyridoxine deficiency and Vit B12 deficiency may be associated with a cracked tongue. The other possibility is allergy to some food preservative or to propylene glycol which is found in some food items, drugs and cosmetics. Maybe your dental paste has it. Check this out.
Avatar m tn I really think that quitting alcohol completely will clear up some of your issues, but have you had any allergy testing done? Different people have different allergy symptoms, and some of your symptoms sound like some I've heard of - especially since some only happen at night. Maybe you're allergic to dust mites -- pressing your head into a dust mite-filled pillow all night can cause sore throat, coughs, eye discharge, night sweats, sometimes fatigue.
Avatar m tn Typically does Geographic Tongue eventually go away or do you have this the rest of your life?
Avatar n tn exposure to irritants such as hot foods, or spices, tobacco, alcohol; allergy to toothpaste, mouthwash, breath fresheners, dyes in candy, dentures, food items, coloring agents, or blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors. It could also be a mechanical irritation by a jagged tooth edge or a denture. Please discuss this with your doctor. Maybe you should also have a dental checkup. Go over the list, something may strike you.
Avatar m tn If it was due to chemical or food irritation or hot food or due to alcohol, then stopping the irritations will result in the geographic tongue returning to normal within days. If the cause is vitamin B 12, folate, iron or zinc deficiency then correcting this deficiency will result in improvement. If the cause is an allergy then anti-allergic pills may help keep the symptoms at bay. However, if no cause is found then it is difficult o ascertain how soon the tongue will regain its texture.
Avatar f tn Regarding the allergic reaction to alcohol,it is usually not the alcohol that produces the allergic reaction to the wine or beer. The other ingredients in the alcohol, such as yeast, sulfur dioxide, and additives are often the culprits. Beer may contain a variety of ingredients, including barley, corn, wheat, and rye that may precipitate an allergic reaction. Since the allergens have not been identified in your case,so I would advise you to get allergy testing done.

Avatar m tn It can also be alcohol and food allergy. It is a good idea to keep a diary of what you eat. Deficiency of iron, Vitamin B, yeast infection, syphilis or dry mouth are the other causes of swollen tongue. Contact with tooth pastes, mouth washes etc too can cause a swelling. Discuss this with your doctors. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

194555 tn?1264286923 Yesterday about 6pm i noticed my nose was twitching on the right hand side, then my upper lip, and then my tongue felt tingly.. Today i just started up again at 1pm, it's really annoying and it is making me very nervous as to what it is. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it Stress related? Avatar f tn It definitely sounds like you could have some type of allergy to alcohol! I have a friend who has very similar symptoms after drinking but his normally starts within about 6 hours of having a couple of drinks. Alcohol allergies at some level is surprisingly more common than most people think. My advice, talk to your Dr. about it just to make sure its nothing more serious ie: liver issues. Good luck!
779797 tn?1263618235 s called intoxication, not allergy. None of your symptoms point to an alcohol allergy. I suggest you stay away from it. Why make matters worse? Have you seen a doctor for any of these symptoms? Something as simple as an inner ear problem can also cause dizziness. Allergies can pop up out of nowhere. Did you test positive for anything?
Avatar m tn Avoid wine and alcohol products if you know that they trigger an asthma/ allergy attack. There are already a number of wines without the preservatives that causes the allergy. But have yourself tested first with what you are allergic to.
Avatar n tn This was followed by a numb or swollen sensation in my tongue, and my face felt weird, particularly around my jaw (not on my neck). The wierdness could be best described as a numb sensation, the same feeling you get when a dentist injects your jaw a freezing mechanism. My eyes also started to water and I mucous came from my nose. Perhaps a slight sore throat, did not feel feverish. After a few hours, the breathing became normalized and feeling came back to my face, and tongue.
Avatar n tn I have tried many different things and even now I am on an allergy drop where I put it under my tongue three times a day and it is supposed to cure my allergies for good. But no matter what I do my eyes are always red and I have tried just about everything I can think of it. They get the worst when I drink alchahol or not get enough sleep and so on. I have been using thera tears because I thought maybe I just have bad dry eye but those don't seem to do anything for me.

Avatar m tn I had an allergy to alcohol. It gave me asthma that once was so sudden and severe that I was blacking out. Luckily my dinner partner was a doctor. I was subsequently cured of the allergy. The throat problem certainly sounds like allergy, except for the delay in your reaction. It should be immediate. It seems more likely that alcohol or some additive in the alcohol is toxic for you. If that is the case you should never drink anything alcoholic.
