Alcohol allergy enzyme

Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol allergy enzyme

alcohol

Avatar f tn This is because women break down alcohol more slowly than men because there is a smaller amount of alcohol metabolizing enzyme (alcohol dehydrogenase) in the stomach of women. Because less enzyme is present, more alcohol passes through the stomach to the duodenum, the main alcohol-absorbing portion of the gut.
Avatar n tn You are not allergic alcohol. It causes direct vasodilation of the skin, related either to alcohol directly or its metabolite, acetaldehyde. Alcohol is oxidized to acetaldehyde in the liver by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). This acetaldehyde is further converted to acetic acid by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. In some individuals due to abnormal or deficient acetaldehyde dehydrogenase will cause accumulation of acetaldehyde which is a potent trigger of flushing.
Avatar m tn Dr. Doctor: This isn't transplant related, but I hoped that you would answer my question I am a 27 year old male that drinks alcohol more than average, but not at alcoholic levels (probably around 15-18 drinks per week). I have had 5 blood tests in the past 9 to 10 months for various reasons (insurance applications and follow-up with primary doctor), and in each test my ALT liver enzyme has been slightly elevated near the low-to-middle 60s (72, 54, 62, 64, 68, respectfully).

Avatar f tn It definitely sounds like you could have some type of allergy to alcohol! I have a friend who has very similar symptoms after drinking but his normally starts within about 6 hours of having a couple of drinks. Alcohol allergies at some level is surprisingly more common than most people think. My advice, talk to your Dr. about it just to make sure its nothing more serious ie: liver issues. Good luck!
779797 tn?1263618235 s called intoxication, not allergy. None of your symptoms point to an alcohol allergy. I suggest you stay away from it. Why make matters worse? Have you seen a doctor for any of these symptoms? Something as simple as an inner ear problem can also cause dizziness. Allergies can pop up out of nowhere. Did you test positive for anything?
Avatar m tn Avoid wine and alcohol products if you know that they trigger an asthma/ allergy attack. There are already a number of wines without the preservatives that causes the allergy. But have yourself tested first with what you are allergic to.

Avatar n tn Food allergies like to gluten and alcohol too should be looked into. You may need to consult an allergy specialist. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to a skin specialist. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a little sensitive to dairy products but do not have any major symptoms except for that I may have some minor stomach aches and go to the bathroom more often (but not diarrhea). My family doctor took a blood test for me and told me that I "have a milk allergy and should try to stay away from dairy products and if I do decide to eat dairy, I should take a Lactaid pill".
Avatar f tn First is alcoholic liver disease which specifically elevates AST (rather than the other enzyme ALT). Chronic alcohol intake damages the liver cells and causes the release of this enzymes in the blood stream. Fatty liver can also cause liver enzyme elevation. This could be due to obesity or increased fat and caloric intake. Treatment is usually avoidance of alcohol and abstinence from fat intake.
Avatar m tn I had an allergy to alcohol. It gave me asthma that once was so sudden and severe that I was blacking out. Luckily my dinner partner was a doctor. I was subsequently cured of the allergy. The throat problem certainly sounds like allergy, except for the delay in your reaction. It should be immediate. It seems more likely that alcohol or some additive in the alcohol is toxic for you. If that is the case you should never drink anything alcoholic.

I feel that it is important to find out the ingredient in beer to which you might be allergic. For that pls consult an allergy specialist and get skin ***** tests and blood tests for allergy done. If the skin testing is negative, it is likely that you are intolerant to beer.

Avatar n tn I am checking into Celiac disease, fructose malabsorption and now sulfite allergy-thanks guys. I also have trouble with water hurting my stomach. Sulfite allergy would explain that. I will post more after my GI appt.
Avatar f tn While there are many varying opinions on this I will say to me it's not worth it. The CDC, Surgeon General, American College of Obstetrician's and American Academy of Pediatric all advise that women abstain from any and all alcohol use during pregnancy. This is because not enough is really known about the effects that even a small amount of alcohol can have on any stage of a developing fetus. Who really wants to sign up for that study right?
Avatar n tn I am 17, live in Arizona, and just so happen to be allergic to pretty much everything here. I have ALWAYS had horrible allergy symptoms, as if I'm always sick, and everyone thinks I have a cold all the time! Anyways, I have been taking Zyrtec for about a year and it didn't help much (still bad PND, scratchy voice, itchy eyes/nose/throat, etc.) So now I am getting allergy shots, but I'm wondering...
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone knows if a dairy allergy can cause urinary incontenance? I have dairy allergy but have a hard time staying away from ice cream. It seems like when I have eaten a dairy product I have a problem with frequency.
