1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar f tn I do not see to many men on this forum, and was wondering if you think that a girl has a harder time getting over physical abuse than a boy does i have talked with lots of men and women, but the men seem to want to just put it behind them, and i know that it must be hard.
1639313 tn?1314583542 i myself have had my share of physical, verbal, sexual you name it, and sometimes still deal with the flasbacks but at a very young age of 5 sexuasl abuse started and went on until 9 years old , i some how found a way to numb it all out like i was not there i had and still have a safe place i go..do not know how but ever sincei was as young as 5 i have had my gift, i say gift because it truely is and was.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar m tn Is it concluded that there is to be no more alcohol of any kind forever? What about after you have cleared the virus?
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar f tn Your 17 year old will soon know, but your other children are probably younger and it will take them more time to be clear with you, but someday they will question you, why you were confused and why you were drinking with a drunk that abused children sexually, and then asked to abuse them again, when they became young adults. (disgusting). .
Avatar m tn Take heed and realize that at such a young age your liver is responding to the alcohol abuse. It's awesome that you are addressing the fact before the damage has occurred. Not only will drinking affect your liver, but drugs will also cause distress. The combo will likely exasperate the outcome. At this time your liver will heal if you quit partying. Prolonged abuse on the other hand can/will create problems down the road.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know or have a link to a website that describes the effects on the brain of long term alcohol abuse? I've been feeling great these last few days of being clean and sober, but I still feel foggy and confused easily and wanted to learn more about it and if I've caused permanent damage since I started drinking so young.
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
Avatar m tn but this just started about 2 weeks ago.. I used to abuse Cough Medicine and alcohol.. I also used to dip tabacco.. I haven't drank now in a few days.. and i quit dipping... the last time it happened was today watching a football game... i have always been healthy.. i have ran and played soccer all my life...
Avatar f tn I am shocked that this doctor said it was ok to do that. Second fact is that he has a former abuse problem with alcohol which is even more reason he should not drink. I'm on a lot of meds and I enjoy a rum an coke now and then, but all in moderation.
Avatar f tn Over the past three years, I have slipped into two addictions: alcohol abuse and xanax abuse. I have struggled with anxiety for years and began taking a low dosage of xanax approximately nine years ago. I have used it "off and on" until the past three years where it has become a daily staple. I am not sure of the dosage, but I usually take 1 to 1 1/2 "purple" xanax per day.
Avatar f tn t know what you mean you don’t “abuse alcohol like that” you don’t have to be an alcoholic living on the street to have liver damage from alcohol. Some people have trouble with alcohol liver damage with less alcohol then others especially when combined with other health problems. American Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting your alcohol intake to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
Avatar m tn The problem with alcohol is that perhaps 20 to 25% of those who drink either have bouts of heavy drinking (binges) or develop more chronic drinking related conditions such as alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence. Alcohol dependence involves a rewiring of the brain's reward circuits and is associated with defects that involve thinking (cognition), emotion, and motivation.
1204531 tn?1300713463 Doing this work now will allow you to avoid years and years of not feeling right, depressed, which often lead young women such as yourself to start abusing drugs and alcohol among other things. It is very brave of you to have come forward. You are a very strong young woman.
Avatar f tn For many women, drinking is also associated with other unhealthy behaviors like smoking, drug abuse, fighting or unprotected sex. Avoiding the alcohol helps you avoid being exposed to or participating in these other harmful activities.
Avatar f tn To many xanax and to much alcohol will kill young or old. He needs help but he is young and most young people think they are invincible. Maybe you can get him to some na meetings or even a drug treatment center this will help him at lest he will no how to quit when he gets ready to quit. Treatment will teach him how to quit and he wont forget treatment.
Avatar m tn if the xanax is in addition to the alcohol.....then he's really playing with fire here. being a medical student, you should know already how diazepam is used for withdrawal from xanax. this needs to be dr surpervised and the process alone of switching from xanax to valium is a long process...but ultimately at these doses and with alcohol in the mix, perhaps thats the best route? a doctor will know best...but the alcohol needs to be dealt with FIRST...then the xanax.
Avatar n tn m having depression/anxiety issues after alcohol abuse) but maybe someone here might also know something about this. I know no one here knows this for sure, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong place on here but thought I would put it out there. I am just wondering if anyone here has ever asked their doctor or qualified professional if it is possible to run out of neurotransmitters whether it be naturally or from substance abuse. I'm a young male (24) and abused alcoholfor 5-6 years.
Avatar f tn no other neurologist has ever asked this question. I think it is an important one. Is it possible to have symptoms of brain problems due to being hit in the head? BUT, would these show up on MRI's? Negating MS as the diagnosis? My MRI's appear to be fine, and I suppose after all this time, I have done reasonably well in life after the abuse. Just kind of a jolt to the system to see THAT question........
1255505 tn?1272819115 How many people here have a history of substance abuse? Did it result from or result in any episodes? I abused cannabis off and on from 13 to 20. I abused LSD from 16 to 20. I abused alcohol off and on from 21 to 37. I abused morphine & oxycodone at 40. Yikes! I also tried a few other things, but they never really took hold.
