362971 tn?1201987034 Virtually all large trials of therapy of hepatitis C have excluded persons who have a recent history of alcohol abuse, requiring a one- to two-year period of abstinence before therapy is initiated. However, the need for a period of abstinence has never been shown. Among patients treated for hepatitis C, a proportion continued drinking, and the ultimate response rate correlated inversely with the level of alcohol intake during therapy.
Avatar m tn s blood alcohol level and the rate of increase in blood alcohol. Consuming a lot of drinks in a short period of time (binging), particularly on an empty stomach, increases risk. After a blackout, a person has no memory of what happened during the period of time that their brain's record button was blocked. Since a blackout occurs when one is highly intoxicated, it often happens when a person is exhibiting poor judgment and diminished impulse control. A lot can happen during a blackout.
Avatar m tn There definitely is a bigger issue here for sure. I have only sctatched the surface. I am not proud of my own abuse of alcohol. But my husband is an intense person and good at his game. There is a history of similar abusive behavior. I wish I could believe it was just the alcohol and you can bet that I learned a big lesson and some. I suppose the only way to know for sure at this point is to view the films footage at the hotel. Thanks for the opinions.
Avatar f tn earlier, the continued abuse of alcohol including how much that I was aware of (he had told her he drank occasionally ha). After she dressed him down for failing to tell her of his prior diagnoses she scheduled a liver ultrasound and follow up with a gastroentrologist and further testing for the possible diabetes. At that time he had mild inflammation of the liver. He was determined to be a diabetic and in addition to the medication for diabetes he was put on Protonix for the indigestion.
Avatar n tn Hello It's good to hear that you are taking control of your alcohol consumption, are you planning to stop completely in the future? I don't think anyone on this site could say what your pain is as we are not medically trained! Would it be possible for you to visit your doctor and does he/she know about your alcohol abuse.
Avatar n tn My boyfriend seems to get either drunk or severly hammered (consisting of black out phases) at least twice a week. He bowls on Thursday and friday nights and get's severly hammered to where he can't even speak clearly. He also sleep walks when he's been heavily drinking. He has tried walking into my daughters room on a few occasions because he thought it was the bathroom. He typically never remembers conversations, arguements, ect the next day.
Avatar f tn I would bet that if you stopped using alcohol, much of that will clear up; but only a doctor will be able to properly diagnose what's going on with you. I'm an alcoholic in recovery.
Avatar n tn considering my history of alcohol abuse (plus other factors such as being a small framed female, binge drinking repeatedly on an empty stomach, and cigarette smoking), and development of Terry's nails, should I push my doctor to perform more tests even though my liver enzymes were normal and I have no other symptoms?
Avatar m tn I've read that your liver can metabolize 1 oz of alcohol per hour. I'd imagine it's gone within 24 hours, but that's just a guess.
Avatar m tn I firmly believe if any(every)one drinks LONG enough they will eventually become addicted to alcohol in the same way people become addicted to other substances (cigarettes, drugs, etc) Also, When one drinks a bottle of Vodka (liquor) one is drunk and might do (out of control) or say (out of control) any number of things they would NEVER do or say if They were sober....another 'message' that we don't want to 'listen' to.
Avatar f tn You are much better off increasing the dose of the medication and stopping the alcohol if you are using alcohol as a stop gap medication for anxiety. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Mental-Health/Celexa--Alcohol/show/1055180?
377493 tn?1356502149 Hey all, this is one of those super paranoid questions, but after all thats happened, I tend to worry about every little thing these days. I am due to ovulate in the next few days (I hope!!) We just moved back to Calgary, and tonight are going to a get together at a local pub with a group of friends we haven't seen in awhile. If I have a couple of drinks, can that affect the egg when I ovulate?
Avatar n tn When together, we typically drink alcohol. Sometimes he can drink quite a bit 6-8 drinks and be fine, but sometimes, he gets really drunk on half a drink, with blurred vision and dizziness. Mentally he is aware and frustrated by what is happening, but physically he becomes a drunken wreck. We have tried to trace this to what he has eaten or what he is drinking, but to no avail. Has anyone heard of this before?
Avatar n tn There is a lot of research and evedence that supports the connection between long term Alcohol abuse and Bio-Chemical Depression. Here is a very informative artical about the subject. If you read the entire report it will give you ways to identify if your Depression is related to Neurephinepherine or Serotonin bio-chemical depletion. It then gives you a list and dosage of specific Amino acids that you will need to take to correct the problem.
Avatar m tn What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption. Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
Avatar f tn After a period of long abuse, it can take time for your liver to recover. If you have done damage to it, then any alcohol at all is a bad idea. I don't know if you're an alcoholic or not....if you're not, then you could potentially drink again in the future....BUT - if you want your liver to heal, you need to take some time off and stay completely sober.
Avatar m tn NIAAA officials estimate that well over 500 million people worldwide may be deficient in ALDH-2. And it appears that every one of them who also drinks alcohol may also be raising their esophageal cancer risk. Esophageal cancer is one of the deadliest, with a very low 5-year survival rate.
Avatar f tn I know this is a weird question but do amy of you ladies drink alcohol? I am craving every drink in the book!! BUT i haven't drank due to the fear ofalthought anything happeningloke to myme bany althought my doctor said that an occasional glass of wine was fine..
Avatar m tn A recent lab test showed an ALT number of 857. What does a number that high actually mean?
Avatar n tn Same here. I found out I was pregnant at around 7 weeks? The number of times I was (unknowingly) hammered while pregnant...I felt really bad at first. I felt better once I went to the doctors office and found everything to be normal and healthy with my little guy.
