Avatar n tn Recently I have begun to feel what I believe are symptoms of alcohol abuse such as hazy memory bloated stomach and tingling in my extremities. I am very fearful that I have done irreversible damage to my organs such as my liver and kidneys heart and stomach. If I quit alcohol now for the rest of my life is the damage done reversible? How can I find some answers to this question? What kind of damage can three years of heavy drinking do?
Avatar f tn Please get to a Dr. or the ER as soon as you can! Also, try to reduce your intake in the meantime. I had a friend when I was your age that ended up in the hospital for a couple of weeks because of liver & kidney damage from opiates & alcohol. It turned out to be a very close call. So, better safe than sorry. The kidney pain & blood are your body's way of telling you: 'This is serious business!'. Good Luck & let us know how it goes.

Avatar n tn How likely are you to die from long term abuse of painkillers and alcohol- say four years worth of this. I started taking Mersyndol and Dolaced tablets with alcohol because I could not sleep and I had headaches. Sometimes I would take up to 30 tables at a time a couple of times a week. I realise codeine in high doses is bad and mixed with alcohol. I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Avatar m tn For others who have more extensive liver damage, they avoid drinking alcohol. Of course, individuals who have a problem managing alcohol in their lives avoid it. If I am lucky enough to achieve SVR (I completed treatment and am awaiting the final results) I have low liver damage (Stage 1) so I will drink alcohol moderately, most probably.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know or have a link to a website that describes the effects on the brain of long term alcohol abuse? I've been feeling great these last few days of being clean and sober, but I still feel foggy and confused easily and wanted to learn more about it and if I've caused permanent damage since I started drinking so young.

Avatar n tn you may not carry the virus but liver damage wont go away overnight - alcohol will cause further damage - down the line a drink or 2 here or there might be ok - alcohol is one of the leading causes of cirrhosis
Avatar n tn healthy I started noticing dull pain sensation in left kidney every time after drinking alcohol starting 3 years ago. It was directly correlated to drinking alcohol as the symptoms were not present otherwise. Drinking has in my opinion been done in moderation however for the past 2-3 years I have stopped drinking altogether. There were however maybe 2 or 3 occasions when I was younger in which I drank to the point where I may have done some long term damage.
Avatar m tn Alcohol seriously damages the liver, the central nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and the heart as well as severe brain issues. Have you ever heard of "wet brain"? Long term alcohol abuse can cause a retardation effect referred to as wet brain. I've seen it in person and it's not nice...
Avatar n tn I used to abuse Adderall. I was taking 10x the prescribed amount with alcohol. I did this probably a dozen times. That was almost a year ago. I just had some bloodwork done and I have high liver enzymes. Could this be linked to Adderall abuse? Thanks.

Avatar m tn For a long time, approximately 5 months or so, I have been heavily abusing common OTC drugs. One of them has been diphenhydramine, around doses of 300-1000mg at a time, and I've mixed it with quite a bit of alcohol as well to potentiate its effects. I'm 100% aware of the risks involved with this, but I did it anyway. I also abused a lot of dextromethorphan hybromide in the same sort of doses, also with alcohol.
Avatar m tn The symptoms may be all related to alcohol abuse. Alcohol destroy brain cells, but as your dad is an alcoholic, it may simply be that he is having withdrawal symptoms from not have an alcoholic drink. His levels of Vitamin B12 may also be depleted as well as other minerals and vitamins. A blood test would confirm if that was the case. A kidney and liver function test would also detect if there was a problem there. A lack of Vitamin B12 can cause memory problems.
Avatar m tn Considering you are slowly killing your liver (and thus yourself) by binge drinking I'd say it you should slow down if your life is important to you. When you binge drink you are overloading your liver and by drinking massive amount of alcohol you are causing damage and scarring to your liver....so it won't function normally.
Avatar m tn Take heed and realize that at such a young age your liver is responding to the alcohol abuse. It's awesome that you are addressing the fact before the damage has occurred. Not only will drinking affect your liver, but drugs will also cause distress. The combo will likely exasperate the outcome. At this time your liver will heal if you quit partying. Prolonged abuse on the other hand can/will create problems down the road.
Avatar n tn While some doctors use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they suspect alcohol abuse.(!) For example, both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease.
