Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar n tn Many ppl post to this forum with questions about their abuse of alcohol and drugs....they get an answer from those of us who have been there and done that...many don't reply back either not naturally liking the response.....or we can only hope they keep in mind the words of us who have travelled their path from a young age to an older age and gave up the battle.....and wisely so.
Avatar m tn I have been addicted to drugs and alcohol for around 5 years now. My addiction to alcohol was not as extreme as my addiction to methamphetamines, coke, oxycontin, etc. until recently. I quit taking most pills and would only do coke occasionally but was drinking close to a liter of vodka a night before going out to a party. I have attempted to quit only being able to stay sober for a couple days at a time.
Avatar f tn I experience blackouts when I drink alcohol...This worries me...I had a couple of drinks and don't remember driving home...I just woke up and I was in bed.....This is scary...What is going on?
Avatar m tn ve been ill for years now without explanation, and so I result to alcohol and benzo usage to cope. I used to drink only three nights a week, and probably average about 5 drinks a night on those nights. That was when I was 21. I'm now 24 and I drink a bottle of wine a night and on top of that I take 20mg of valium a day.
Avatar m tn roxby94, what you've described are classic signs of alcohol abuse in an intimate relationship. For example: you drink together often, he tells you about negative things you say, and you can't remember exactly what has happened. You should get this sorted out before it goes any further. Try researching: 'National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism' (or NIAA), and 'Alcohol Problems and Relationships'...
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar m tn Oh ya it is possible. I hope for your sake you really do mean you are going to quit. Get some help with quiting. Alcohol wd's need monitoring. Blackouts are a big sign that this needs to stop. We are here for support so keep posting.......
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar f tn Blackouts are associated with the development of alcohol abuse and is considered to be a sign of early brain damage from alcohol use - not to mention the damage done to Your liver and other organs when Your Blood Alcohol Level is high. Many people don't understand that alcohol does not go through the 'normal' digestive process. 80% of it goes straight to Your blood stream to wreak its havoc. ONLY 20% of what You drink is digested in the normal way.
Avatar m tn hello. if you are having these problems now, rest assured the worst is yet to come if you continue drinking. i know of a guy who used to get locked up on a regular basis for public intox until he sobered up. the last time it happened, they didn't let him go the next morning like usual. instead, the deputy told him he wasn't going anywhere. he couldn't remember what he'd done and thought a joke was being played on him.
Avatar n tn Not a good idea at all with all of those medications almost anything could happen, including blackouts, fainting, etc.
Avatar f tn In high school and university I used to party (not too much, just regular) and did not have blackouts with the exception of one time, but the amount of alcohol consumed was extreme... Recently, in past 3 month I attended two parties (bridal shower and wedding of my friends) and both times i don't recall what happened at the end of the party. My husband had to take me home. He tells me what I was doing but I have absolutely no memory about those events. I don't drink.
Avatar m tn Hi all! I would like to know about alcohol caused blackouts..if we take a period of time from let's say 8 pm to 11 pm and the blackout starts at 8 pm and until 8:20 pm I don't remember anything and after that start remembering and do NOT drink more..does it mean that the peak concentration is over and I will not blackout anymore (I.e. from 9 pm until 9:10 pm) or it is still possible (if I ate before and alcohol is slowly absorbing during those periods).
Avatar f tn I am assuming the blackouts are not in relation to alcohol use. There is just no way to know without running some tests. Please take her to the doctor right away!
Avatar m tn I take 20mg of celexa every morning for anxiety. Anyways when I go to the bars and drink alcohol, I get the worst mental hangovers that linger for 2-3 days. I'll be fine that night, but the next day I will have terrible brain fog/confusion problems no matter how hydrated I am or what I eat.. I have been drinking on weekends since I was about 16. I cannot remember if the hangovers got this bad before or after i started anxiety medication.. . Could this be due to the celexa?
Avatar f tn Okay, I have posted here before about blackouts and drinking but I've noticed a new problem arising. Since my last post I have tried my best to heed to warnings and severely limit my alcohol intake. I'm at a point now where I may have a glass of wine once in a while. However, I have still been experiencing blackouts but these occur during the day when I'm not drinking at all, or haven't drank in days.
Avatar n tn , something fairly common with alcoholism where the person has no recollection of the events while drinking. blackouts can occur with much lower amounts of alcohol than it takes to 'pass out', which is something completely different. Drinking 'fairly heavily' leaves a great deal of 'wiggle room'.
Avatar n tn Dear Toast, Allow me to weigh in as someone with 50+ months sobriety. "Alcoholism" is not a term used in the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual of the American Psychological Association which instead uses the terms "alcohol dependence" and "alcohol abuse", it is not a strictly scientific or medical term. As such it is a relatively subjective term which each individual must decide to either embrace as part of his/her identity or not.
Avatar f tn thank u dear!not to mention all the $$$ spent on alcohol/drugs,coulda killed someone with my driving in blackouts..grateful i didn't!there is a big history of this in my family...i look at it like i don't have OFF switch and just need to stay the heck away from it.Love to help those who WANT recovery and r willing to work at it.On thursdays i have an Adult Recovery Group here average 9-12 ppl.they want to make changes....the hi-lite of my week!
Avatar m tn Now that I have been getting better I have been socializing and therefore have started drinking. When I began I remembered how much I loved alcohol. My tolerance was much much lower while on Wellbutrin. I used to be able to have 7 beers within 4 hrs and be fun drunk. THe first time I drank on my meds 2 beers in I was drunk and then sipped on wine for a bit. In the morning I was fine.
Avatar m tn Your problem is anxiety and alcohol, which, btw is a TERRIBLE mix. Alcohol will intensify anxiety something fierce. You need to lay off the sauce. Seriously. Your thoughts are irrational, but you already knew that.
