Avatar n tn albuterol inhalers ARE prescribed to be used before exercising in exercise induced asthma.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma about a year ago. The only time he experiences problems is when he wrestles. He is 10 years old and has been wrestling since he was 5. This has been devastating to him, as he has always been a very successful wrestler, and practices 3-4 times a week. He is able to wrestle for most of the 1 1/2 min first period, but by the end of that time he is gasping for air and putting his hands over his head to try to get a breath.
Avatar f tn I workout 4-5 days a week but see myself using the albuterol inhaler 10-20 min into my cardio workout. I really wished I was like the others who can jump on the treadmill and run without using medications. I was wondering if this frequent use of the albuterol inhaler will affect me negatively. I've also noticed it's been difficult to lose weight. Is this due to these steroids?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with an exercise induced asthma and prescribed a 90 mcg albuterol inhaler. I didn't use it much as I was fine most of the time. But just recently I have been having to use my inhaler every few hours or so because if I don't I get really short breathed. I don't know what's going on and it's worrying me.
Avatar n tn Hi and Welcome, Not being a Dr it's hard to answer. If exercise induced asthma perhaps the pro-air is helping before you exercise .. not really sure. Maybe a different type of dual inhaler may work better w/o side effects ... just my two cents Welcome!
Avatar f tn Either way though, with your reactions after exercise, it sounds like a fast acting broncho dilater (some form of albuterol - Proventil, Porair, Maxair, Xopenex, Ventolin) might be a good idea. These medications can be used as a pretreatment for exercise eliminating the reaction and allowing for a better workout. I hope that helps you. Good luck obtaining an accurate diagnosis and the medication that is best for you.
587778 tn?1261397118 Are you sure she had a reaction to albuterol? I can easily see the steroid as the culprit, but albuterol surprises me. Of course, if you overuse it you will get a fast heart beat, but in moderate amounts it is usually OK. I use it and I also take an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn I get a cough after sex and also sometimes during exercise. I have been checked for heart problems and have none. I am a healthy 55 year old. I have also been tested for allergic reactions to most common molds and do not have any. Can you help?
1754037 tn?1327886811 I do not have severe asthma it's exercise induced but certain things trigger mine to make it severe. Before getting pregnant with my first son I was on two inhalers albuterol as needed and once a day I took a pulmicort inhaler(steriod). When I found out I was pregnant I did get off the pulmicort but stayed on the albuterol(only needed it once or twice a day). My son came out healthy and is now a healthy 4yr old.
1086884 tn?1328640455 I have always been a very active person and this non activity is a problem for me. I want to exercise my lung walls with cardio but I don't want to over do either. Thanks for any help I can get.
Avatar n tn The first day we did sprints and I almost passed out. I called the doc and they said it may be exercise induced asthma, gave me an albuterol inhaler and asmanex 220mcg 2x day. It really didn't help too much. I kept up the exercise programs and was very very tired but ok enough to continue; however, trimming horses kept getting worse--with or without the albuterol inhaler. I let the asmanex run out after 30 days.
1596864 tn?1333485191 Many people will pretreat with their rescue inhaler before exercise. Since you will most likely be outside, you should talk to your doctor about other measures you can take as well. If you have allergies, they could trigger your asthma as well. You may need an antihistamine or various types of nasal spray. Take care.
Avatar n tn When I lived in Calif. my asthma went away. I moved to N. Fla. and in 4 years it has gotten severly worse. Is there anyplace to move where it is not densely populated, where the medicine is up to date and it does not cost an arm & a leg to live there. Austin is out of the question as is going back to California. Would living close to the ocean help?
Avatar n tn It sound like you suffer from E.I.B. (Exercise induced bronchospasm). One of the main symptoms is "Unusual Fatigue with Exercise" which can last minutes or up to many hours afterwords. Basically, the lungs are not getting the amount of air needed to feed the muscles the oxygen they need. Most people with asthma have this, but many without asthma suffer from this as well. The good news is, that if this is the problem, it is easy to "fix".
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your symptoms are suggestive of Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. There may be underlying bronchial asthma or chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis usually presents with sputum (mucus), symptoms can be worsened by chest infections. A test with bronchodilators for 2-3 weeks will be useful to relieve the symptoms. Respiratory function tests before and after exercise is required.
Avatar f tn You need to get a doctor's prescription for an albuterol sulfate emergency oinhaler and keep it with you at all times! Do this as of yesterday! Most asthma deaths take place with those who don't have chronic asthma. A cascade of events can take place and you may end up with a laryngospasm completly blocking your airway! If you have a friendly doctor he will prescribe you emergency prednisone (20 mg tablets), which takes a while to get into the system.
Avatar f tn I have an appointment in 2 weeks with my primary doctor, but I was prescribed these medications by a different doctor who was filling in... albuterol (the emergency inhaler), Singulair (I take 10mg once every night), and one puff twice a day of Dulera with a chamber (I always rinse afterwards). It seems like a lot of meds. I’ve been on Singulair and albuterol for a few weeks, and I’ve been taking Dulera for about a week now.
Avatar n tn Do you really want to be giving your son Pulmicort under any circumstances? It is a corticosteroid with many side effects. For instance it compromises the immune system and weakens bones. For a growing boy that does not sound great. There are natural anti-inflammatories that actually work better than steroids and which do not harm the patient. The albuterol is OK.
Avatar n tn I am reading through it and it is rather interesting because I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma several years ago. I had a pulmonary function test which showed normal results so my doctor just determined that the exercise was what was causing the symptoms and gave me an albuterol inhaler to use. Also, I have hypothyroidism which I take medication for daily. Before being diagnosed I had shortness of breath and chest pain at 25 years old!
Avatar f tn Helicopters rarely exceed 1500 foot above ground level, and usually are below 1,000 feet. If you are comfortable at ground level the helicopter ride will be no problem. I used to fly them way back when Obama was a gleam in his father's eye. I hate Alaska. I was there once on a military exercise. Toooooo cold. Yes, the inhaler can freeze. Keep it next to your body.
Avatar f tn She at age 6 starting have extreme breathing difficulty rarely ever with a cough or wheezing. She was tested for allergies and asthma twice She takes singulair albuterol inhaler and xopenex viles in her nebulizer according to the recommendations of the doctor . Each time she has a spell of not getting her breath she also experiences heart pounding episodes Also after strenuous exercise occasionally this heart pounding occurs.
Avatar m tn I have since been to the doctor again on the same complaints and their answer was that I had exercise induced asthma.I have tried two asthma inhalers, one albuterol, and have had no improvement. The Albuterol inhaler actually made the pains worse and brought them on when they weren't there. These pains usually occur after exercise, it does not matter if I exercised indoors or out, or playing high intensity sports, i.e.
Avatar n tn It is an anticholinergic, a totally different class of medicine than albuterol. Since albuterol is not for you, that might be another option. Also, theophyline is another bronchodilater. It has some serious side effects and blood levels will be monitored carefully. It does work well. Caffiene is the the theophyline class of medicines. It can have a mile affect as a bronchodilater. So drinking some hot cafeinated tea or coffee might help relieve some of your symptoms.
454286 tn?1205883067 Still coughing all these months, new pediatrician was diagnosed with Asthma in December. His asthma is also exercise induced. Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar f tn I was having a hard time breathing 2 nights ago and decided to try my daughters albuterol inhaler. I used 5 puffs over a 24 hour period. I dont know why but I assumed it was harmless to use while pregnant. Now im looking online and see its a class C! Im nervous I may have done harm to baby. Anyone else use albuterol while pregnant first trimester?
