Albuterol emphysema

Common Questions and Answers about Albuterol emphysema

advair

1300043 tn?1272812819 Nicole - sorry I didn't see your original post, just read it now. GERD is very common with COPD and the reflux (even silent without the traditional heartburn) can cause significant coughing like you described. Perhaps you could try some OTC meds like Prilosec for 2-4 weeks and see if it helps..... Marji - COPD is a progressive disease. Albuterol is a 'rescue' inhaler to help with bronchospasm - which can happen with emphysema and asthma.
Avatar n tn What exactly do you have? I have emphysema and coughing and phlegm is not an issue for me. Do you have bronkitis?
Avatar f tn I was then given Advair Diskus 250/50, after 2 1/2 months called the doctor because of using emergency inhaler Albuterol Sulfate 90mgc min 10 times a day. Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema.
678431 tn?1227554311 I use Albuterol Inhalers for my asthma and I've been recently having some trouble with 'em. My mom and I share the same dosages, which I find really weird since I just merely have asthma and she has emphysema as well. But, I've brought that to the attention of m doctor but she still said I needed the same dosage. Plus, it makes me really jittery and shaky.
Avatar f tn They took xrays, gave me a breathing treatment, told me I was having an exaerbation from my emphysema. Doc gave me Advair Diskus and an albuterol inhaler and told me I didnt have time to wait til January to get a pcp when I went on my husbands insurance. The temp doc I saw, never did test, but put me on more meds and put on her paper, "Chronic Obstructive Unspecified Asthma.
Avatar f tn COPD is said to be a combination of emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma. Emphysema damage is permanent, but you can possible get rid of the bronchitis. II presume you are using albuterol which is very helpful. Also, if you have a lot of phlegm Mucomyst is wonderful. At least it was for me. Presnisone and inhaled steroids did terrible damage for me so I won't go near them. (They cause osteoporosis, damage your immune system and cause adrenal fatigue. You can check this on the internet.
Avatar m tn As of now the only prescribed medicines I use are nebulized Duoneb or albuterol and nebulized Mucomyst (for congestion). Additionally I take natural anti-inflammatories.
Avatar n tn recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
Avatar n tn Ventolin is the brand name for Albuterol. This medication is used for people who have breathing problems like asthma etc. Not sure why the Dr would be using this to treat bradycardia. It can make the heart rate faster when using, but it is usually short lived and I personally have never heard of it being used for your particular problem. If I were you, I'd ask specifically why you have been given this medication. Do you also have asthma or emphysema?
Avatar n tn You might be suffering from emphysema or asthma. Go to a pulmonologist for a diagnosis. Meanwhile don't worry, maybe all you need is an albuterol inhaler.
Avatar n tn COPD is the umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The symbicort is good for reducing the inflammation (therefore narrows the breathing tubes) in the lung pathways. It should help your bronchitis.
Avatar n tn I have an appt with a pulmonary dr. in three weeks, but would love input from people who have been through something similar. I was diagnosed with asthma a few years ago. I've been on one puff of Asmanex and albuterol (now Xopenex) as needed, but rarely needed rescue inhalers. I've only seen my general dr. for my asthma and he isn't very informative. The last couple of months my "asthma" has felt worse...
Avatar n tn What are your spirometry test results? I have been dealing with emphysema for a few years now, and I know exactly how my body reacts to a sat level of 79%. But to answer your question anyway: I agree with Sunny462, I didn't want to be restricted and dependent on meds and O2 therapy either, but once I started taking my Advair, Albuterol PRN, and supplemental O2 I feel SO much better.
Avatar n tn ------ I do not know what this means either, can some one help me. And I also tried an inhaler (Albuterol), the inhaler does not help my shortness of breath. Any help is appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hi, COPD is NOT common in a 20 yr old w/ a light smoking history. There is a condition called Alpha 1 that causes a genetic form of emphysema(also a form of COPD) that can be tested through a blood test. I hope that was the blood test that your doctor ordered for you. You really need to request pulmonary function tests (breathing tests), that can completely rule out emphysema. The x-ray can't diagnose emphysema-ONLY the breathing tests can do that.
Avatar m tn I got better, but I havent been able to breathe for 7 months. I have an albuterol inhaler. I have absolutely no cough, no tightness in chest, it doesnt wake me up at night, it seems to get worse when I think about it... like at the grocery store or the gym. Its constantly on my mind tho, so its hard to gauge. It didnt come in gradually, one day I could breathe, then I got sick, and the difficulty breathing never went away after my cold was gone.
467579 tn?1289402969 s during REM. I have moderate emphysema and besides theO2 at night, I only use Spiriva and albuterol inhaler. I do use a scooter for all day outings, but I do get off and walk as much as I can. I also have panic attacks, which seem to hinder my walking ability outside the house or in very unfamiliar places. That's why my Pulmonologist thinks I can walk a straight 30 min. on the treadmill but have so much trouble otherwise. I just tighten up,have a panic attack and that's it!
Avatar f tn of vitamin B5, plus mullein extract, and MSM daily. B5 will also counteract the drying quality of albuterol. There are absolutely no side effects. I got off Advair because of very serious side effects which actually made my breathing worse. Symbicort is probably just as bad. They are steroids that throw your adrenals out of whack. Because of Advair I suffered serious adrenal fatigue which I am being treated for. Stick to natural whenever you can.
Avatar m tn spirometry before standard albuterol treatment showed a forced vital capacity within normal linits at 2.67 liters or 90% of predicted. FEV1 severely reduced at 1.02 liters or 48% or predicted, FEV1/FVC ratio was severly reduced at 53% of predicted. Mid expiratory flow was very severely reduced at 0.35 liters per second or 14% of predicted. Maximal forced expiratory flow was severely reduced at 2.74 liters per second or 47% of predicted. Total expiratory time 11 seconds.
784830 tn?1237342275 Been experiencing increasing shortness of breath and mild to moderate dizziness. I do have mild emphysema (smoked for 24 years) but the degree of dyspnea excedes my stage of COPD. Suffer from orthostatic hypotension and at times the dizziness gets to the point that I feel like I will faint. MEDS: Spiriva (triotropium bromide): inhaler; 18 mcg/day Albuterol: as needed.
757137 tn?1347196453 I am still using an albuterol nebulizer and an antihistamine and would like to lower my dependence on albuterol. Many thanks for your replies.
Avatar n tn I am a 41 year old male. My doctor told me that I probably have the onset of emphysema after smoking for 25 years. He said if I stopped smoking now, it wouldn't progress. I was glad to hear that, of course, but I remember years ago my uncle developed emphysema years after quitting smoking and it got worse and worse and he eventually died from it. Can someone clarify this?
Avatar f tn I really like the Symbicort as it has the same medicine as Pulmicort with albuterol added. It has helped me not have to use the emergency inhaler so much. I am finally getting some help from the drug company on my meds, so not sure exactly how much it is but think around $140- 150 per prescription without insurance. Before switching I would certainly look at possible side effects of the other drugs too. Even if these have bad side effects, I just can't breathe without them so....
Avatar f tn Although people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) usually have elements of both chronic bronchitis and emphysema, one can have chronic bronchitis, without emphysema or, more commonly, chronic bronchitis with a wide range of emphysema severity from minimal to quite severe. Chronic bronchitis is characterized by airway obstruction to air flow but there is not a good correlation between the degree of obstruction and the amount of emphysema.
Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
