Avatar n tn Vaccine Campaigns May Be The Cause of New AIDS-Like Disease in Asia and Drug Resistant HIV Affecting Africa Researchers have identified mysterious new symptoms that have left scores of people in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with an AIDS-like disease and drug-resistant HIV respectively. Coincidentally, vaccine trials took place in several regions in both continents. The patients' immune systems become damaged, leaving them unable to fend off germs as healthy people do.
Avatar m tn Ive been to thailand for 4 weeks now, and normaly i always use condom but 2 times i had unprotected sex with a bargirl from phuket, i wanted to use condom but the girls didnt want too and i had some drinks so i didnt think too much about it, first time i had sex with the bar girl for maybe 1 hour without condom, and the second time 5-6 minutes before i got my head straight and changed my mind and put on a condom.
Avatar m tn Then there is the Thai army study, a fisherman study, a Study of three Cases in CHina where an Antibody test failed to detect CRF01-AE in 3 AIDS patients due to there being no antibodies left. Then the last thing I read was about a recent HIV Vaccine trail in Thailand that was somewhat successful. So in all that reading, plus boards I am not totally confused and none of my questions above were answered. What is the bottom line?
Avatar m tn FR0012333284 – ABVX), an innovative company developing anti-viral therapies and immunotherapeutics for infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, chronic hepatitis B (CHB), chikungunya, ebola as well as an adjuvant to enhance the immune response, today announced that a futility analysis on the primary end-point of its ABX203-002 trial, a Phase IIb/III trial of ABX203 in CHB patients, determined that the trial is unlikely to reach its primary endpoint.
Avatar n tn However, my understanding that any increased propensity to heterosexual transmission is in the lower range of the possibilities you quote from some websites. From my understanding of the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS in Thailand, it is not plausible that the vaginal sex transmission risk is anything like the higher rates you cite. That said, there are no data. The transmission risk data in the US, published by CDC (e.g.
Avatar m tn All of these difficulties followed an episode with a massage girl in Thailand. I gave and received (unprotected) oral sex. Tested out negative to 14 months for HIV. Not feeling well. Any idea what might be going on?
Avatar n tn A final word. Hepatitis vaccine (both for hepatitis B and hepatitis A, there is no vaccine for hepatitis C) is highly effective. You owe it to yourself to get vaccinated.
Avatar f tn A month ago I was lightly bitten in the knee by a street dog in rural Thailand. As I was traveling and the wounds were only small I didn't really pay much attention to it. 6 days later I found out that the area the attack occurred is endemic for rabies. I kinda panicked and quickly started vaccination at a local public hospital. 5 doses on day 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28. I was not prescribed immunoglobulin. Later that day I decided to visit a private hospital for the immunoglobulin.
Avatar n tn If i did and luckily there does exist a vaccine for the type of strain i contracted, do u think it is available in thailand? If so, how expensive can it be? Sorry, if i am asking you too many questions, I haven't talked about this even with my close frens. I am only relying on your valuable input regarding my case. Thank you very much for your time.
Avatar n tn m a 30 year old heterosexual circumcised male and recently had brief unprotected vaginal intercourse with a CSW in Thailand, no oral sex occurred, I was under the influence of alcohol. The CSW was early 20s and told me there was nothing to worry but her status is unknown. Neither of us demonstrated any visible STI or wounds at the time of exposure.
Avatar f tn I went to Thailand for tourism and when I entered the shop massage women suck my penis for money Is AIDS is transmitted by sucking my penis please, I'm afraid
Avatar m tn i was posted before.. so here we go again, it may be useful to have The HBV vaccine after my results at 2 months after exposure? (results came negative) but i know it may take more time to show up. the possiblity, if a really catch the virus..but the vaccine could help against the infection? if a take the shot.. it could be a good idea?
Avatar m tn I had a drunken night in Thailand and ended up having sex with a Sex Worker on 2/26/14 (first and only time). I know that I used a condom (but not while receiving oral sex). I am not sure, but don't believe condom broke. I remember her touching herself while applying lubricant and shortly thereafter she scratched me with her fingernail on my hand causing me to bleed a bit. When I came back to the US, the first Dr.
Avatar m tn Second one will be better, but since the vaccine comes first most of ppl will certainly go for it.
Avatar m tn how fare are scientists saying that we are away from a cure/vaccine ?? , what developments have been done ?
Avatar m tn I wanna add also that since the post-exposure, the girl has gone back to Thailand. However, she gave me her number in Thailand in which I managed to contact her. She was very suprise when I mention about HIV and was very sure that she does NOT have HIV. She told me she was never a prostitute but was a dancer in Pattaya before coming to work in a bar in Malaysia. Finally, can a person have HIV without even knowing it? Thank you so much for helping me out. I deeply appreciate your feedbacks.
Avatar f tn Immunity is not lost even if hbsab goes und once you responded to vaccine and also adults always clear hbv so vaccine is not even needed.it is only at birth that you can get it it is mandatory not to use any kind of drugs, poppers used by many gay men make aids....so in cass of unhealthy life or drug use consider that any disease is not cleared and immunensystem is damaged to mildly to aids....
Avatar m tn m posting this because it relates to me and many, many others on this forum, and perhaps it will make others think twice before engaging in sex with a CSW, unprotected in Thailand or any other SEA country. It is well documented that the South East Asian countries Have a different strain of HIV-1 to Western countries. It is a subtype that is peculiar to this region called HIV Subtype-E.
Avatar f tn absolutely yes, most of european countries have mandatory vaccine at birth so hbv has almost disappered
Avatar m tn I have spent days on the internet trying to find out info on the statistics of HIV in the Thailand bars. There are plenty of statistics for thailand as a whole but it needs to be broken down. There a a lot of small local brothels which locals go to where condoms are not used which would affect the statistics of the HIV in the GO GO bars where the girls are supposed to be tested monthly/quarterly. They are also having sex with tourists where condoms are being used on most occasions.
Avatar m tn I Had a sex with a thailand gay massagist on Jun 25th. At the begining, he use his penis to scrub my anus and try to insert a little bit for 4-5 times. Then he had a deep penetration into my anus for once and I could feel his penis get throught my the anorectal ring. After that penetration, he took a condom on his penis and had a anal sex with me. I checked the condom when we finished our sex.It should be no big break, but I'm not sure that maybe a minor break on it.
1530342 tn?1405016490 A vaccine is FAR more likely than a cure. For MOST viral infections, there is no cure, and with HIV, a retrovrius, it is unlikely. We still don't have a cure for the common cold, and influenza. A cure would be wonderful, but just think of all the other diseases out there with no cure, only treatments. The thing to be thankful for is how far we've come in the treatment for HIV/AIDS. MANY people are living completely normal life spans...
Avatar n tn m assuming you are referring to the Pneumovax 23? This is the pneumonia vaccine that is recommended as routine for those age 50+ or persons age 2 or older with certain chronic conditions or in certain environmental or social situations...
