Avatar m tn i am reading a few threads here that say in South Africa the standard window testing period is 6 months , i live in South Africa and have been in contact with the AIDS hotline , rest assured that in South Africa the window period is 3 months , i have also read that 6-8 weeks is a good indicator ...
Avatar m tn Hiv is not that bad in Africa as people believe, i am born and raise in Africa and in my hole life of 24years only two people were diagonise positive from my community so relax man Africa is not equal to hiv, just wait and take an antibody test at 3month.
Avatar f tn Highly unlikely, but testing is the only way to know.
Avatar n tn Lizzy I did something stupid when i was in Africa , i made contact by tapping my exposed penile head on her privates -then penetrated about twice (thrusts), upon realisation I wore a condom , in a missionary position and at some stage let go to violently fall by means of gravity to penetrate as there was not much resistance...this is stupid and embaracing but now i am very sick-had oral leasons, chest infections, night sweat, joint pain and a runny stomach.
Avatar n tn s and my recommendations on timing of HIV testing depend in part on the level of risk; in a high risk situation like this one, testing out to 3 months makes sense.
1530342 tn?1405016490 My daughter-in-law is working on AIDs projects in Africa. The epidemic is much larger there, partially due to poverty and lack of education as well as stubborn refusal by some of using condoms. Of course, I can't let this subject go by without mentioning the fact that Hep C now kills more people in the US than HIV/AIDs.
Avatar n tn Researchers publishing in the Lancet studied 26,000 untreated HIV-positive people in developing countries and found the most rapid increase in drug resistance occurred in East Africa, at 29% per year. In Southern Africa, it was 14% per year.

Avatar m tn I received anal fingering with pre-cum, I don't know if there is any cuts or blood in his hands, but I tested Duo test 19 days, 26 days and 6 weeks after exposure, also rapid blood test 10 weeks after exposure, all came negative and my questions: 1- are my tests consider as conclusive or may I need another test on 12 weeks?
Avatar m tn As you have been told, 3 months (12 weeks) is conclusive in South Africa
Avatar m tn Is it possible to have HIV/AIDS and the clearview test in a reputed hospital does not show it? the exposure 10 years ago was with an african girl from West Africa during a mission, it was one time and the condom broke. About 5 months after I felt very sick, i was shaking and been hospitalized. After that my life was different, frequent headaches, pain in the joints from time to time, but nothing serious until three years ago..
Avatar f tn Also hiv subtype 2 does home access catch it? I know mostly in west africa but we do have a high west african population in ohio? And last but not least can a miss step in the test like not letting the blood dry the full 30min affect results thank you and advance...
Avatar n tn I also wonder this, how could so many men in Africa be infected with HIV if the transmission rate was really only 1 / 2000 encounters. I have a feeling that is on the very low end.
Avatar m tn Heterosexual HIV transmission in the UK occurs mostly among immigrants from AIDS-endemic area, like southern Africa. Even among CSWs in London, only about 1 in 1,000 have HIV -- so the chance your partner had HIV is extremely low. Therefore, from a strict risk-assessment perspective you didn't need HIV testing at all; the benefit of testing is purely from the psychological support you should be feeling from knowing for sure that you didn't catch it.
Avatar m tn would they pick up every type and strand of hiv infection , say if some one was infected by some one from say africa , would it detect it in the uk would it detect rare strands?
Avatar n tn Since it was with a mixed race prostitute from Africa I started to worry because in Africa there is HIV and AIDS.I tested 5 times through the laboratory and realised a negative status.I told my story indirectly to a medical microbiologist as im still worried because I have a rough layer of white on my tongue which feels like dead cells. The microbiologist said there was no 100% chance of someone being truely negative.
Avatar n tn So, to re-phrase what I believe I read above, you cut your foot in South Africa and the wound was washed out. You are concerned that in this process you might have been infected with HIV. If I have summarized the events you describe properly, there is no risk to you from having had your wound cleaned. We get many questions about the possibility of HIV infection thought contact with open wounds. these questions, like your betrays a lack of understanding of how HIV is transmitted.
Avatar m tn Hello dr i will not ask about the risk of hiv i know i am not infected but i am asking questions if you could answer them it will be appreciated as you are expert you know that there is a huge number of people who are infected with aids in the world do you think that they all got the virus through sexual relations.
