Avatar m tn Even if one can envision a theoretical risk from fingering, in the 30 years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, nobody is known to have been infected by hand-genital or hand-anal contact. For more detailed discussions, enter "fingering" in this forum's search function and read through the nearly 1,000 threads that will show up.
Avatar m tn Nobody in the world ever caught HIV from an event like this -- not once in the 30 years and millions of infections in the known worldwide AIDS epidemic. No unprotected sex and no sharing of drug injection equipment equals no risk of HIV. Believe it. No need to keep asking variations on the same question.
Avatar n tn I suggest you do some research to learn the basics of HIV transmission. In the nearly 3 decades of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, with millions of infected people, I'll bet not one caught the virus from the sorts of indirect trivial exposures you describe. Further, the chance your partner had HIV is very low. You're following safe sex practices. Keep it up and you have the sort of exposure you describe every day of your life and expect to never catch HIV.
Avatar m tn * First, the authors could find only 25 reported cases worldwide in the 30+ years of the known HIV/AIDS epidemic. Given the millions and millions of known cases, almost all of whom had positive antibody tests, this is an exceedingly small number. * Second, the results apply only to the stand-alone antibody tests. All the patients described had (or clearly would have had) positive DNA/RNA tests and p24 antigen tests. * Third, none of the reported patients was asymptomatic.
Avatar n tn Personally, I dislike this claim, as it is rather meaningless without context. Worldwide, over 350 million people are chronic with Hepatitis B, this compared with 170 million for Hepatitis C. I don't know the figure for HIV/AIDS.
Avatar n tn BANGKOK – For the first time, an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the AIDS virus, a watershed event in the deadly epidemic and a surprising result. Recent failures led many scientists to think such a vaccine might never be possible. The World Health Organization and the U.N. agency UNAIDS said the results "instilled new hope" in the field of HIV vaccine research.
Avatar n tn Hi all, A week ago I traveled to south america and had sex with a prostitute. The condom broke, she realized about it and I put on a new one, so it was like 5 seconds without it. I've read in many places that I shouldn't worry because the chances of infection from a single contact are very low, but I still decided to come to this forum for some advice and mostly for comfort. I am not having lots of anxiety but I am a bit worried about the possible outcome.
Avatar m tn To better treat HIV infection, we need a better understanding of how it causes the disease we call AIDS. We also need alternative approaches to treatment," says Thomas Hope, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses and Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. "This study is important because it begins to explain how THC can influence disease progression in SIV-infected macaques.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. We get occasional questions like this -- sharp instrument injuries (pins, needles, splinters, and so on) in the environment, often in stores or workplaces, with fear that someone else might have been injured recently by the same object. The answer is always the same: absolutely no risk. In the entire 30 years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, I'm sure nobody has been infected by such an event. Same for heptatitis B andC.
16729681 tn?1450900862 Lot of people worldwide showing these symptoms I have the same , now very poorly I am scared this is a serious epidemic , you will start getting severe anxiety and panic attacks the doctor will say that your depressed and give you anti depressants where you think great I feel better only to go downhill again a few months later , sound to me like the Chinese like AIDS virus or some bse epidemic , call me paranoid but I've had all tests all show up negative but so did bse and this Chinese like
Avatar m tn What are my risks of contracting HIV/AIDS or a sexual disease through me performing unprotected oral sex in this manner? I have heard that after 3 months tests can almost definitely prove whether someone is infected. What should I do now? Should I receive later tests? I am quite worried about any possible contamination. Cheers.
Avatar m tn I've been reading a lot about HIV and aids for over a year... And Ive reached these conclusions: 1. Oral sex has been proven in the past 15 years through various studies to be absolutely safe regarding HIV transmission. It is NO risk whatsoever no matter cuts or bleeding gums. 2. HIV is only transmitted via unprotected vaginal and anal sex and shared needles. And these are the only three possible ways for transmission. 3. No cuts on your hands or body parts can transfer HIV.
Avatar m tn in the three decades of the recognized worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, there has never been a single HIV infection reported to have been acquired in this manner. Even if somehow there had been a used drug injection needle involved in your toe injury (which seems extremely unlikely anyway), the chance there was sufficient live virus still present is very low.
724568 tn?1235437509 In the entire history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic worldwide, and in the 20+ years since HIV testing has been routine, I'll bet not one person ever caught HIV from being tested. It is indeed reommended that health care providers wear protective gloves when they draw blood or otherwise come into contact with patients' blood or secretions. But the main reason is not to protect the patient from something carried by the provider.
Avatar m tn how is it that 35 million people worldwide have hiv/aids..... just wondering.. wouldnt you think the number would be much lower.. because 1 outa of every 200 exposures isnt high at all yet 35 million people have hiv. ..........
Avatar n tn is there any chance of an infection if u rub ur penis on someones hand,thighs,back???...do u get std or aids by doing this?? i washed my penis after doing this....please help.....
Avatar f tn And there has never been a reported case of HIV transmission from an event like yours -- and if you think about it, over the 30+ years of the worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, there must have been thousands of events just like this, maybe millions. And yet nobody known to have been infected. You aren't going to be the first!
Avatar m tn i had unprocted sex 12 year ago but i never being sick these years but currently i am not feeling well so i there any chance of hiv/aids after 12 year . This discussion is related to Will I have AIDS after 12 years?.
Avatar m tn Our answers are always the same, and the same as you already heard on the community forum. After 30 years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, millions of infected persons, and billions of risky sexual exposures, there simply are no known cases of HIV transmission by hand-genital contact, genital contact without penetration, and so on. Potentially exposed cuts or wounds apparently make no difference.
Avatar m tn in theory, natural skin concoms might allow small amounts of virus to leak through. However, in the entire 30 year history of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, there have been no reported cases of HIV that occurred through an intact natural skin condom. 2) No, HIV doesn't cause such symptoms. There might be nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea in ARS, but never as the only symptoms. And as noted above, the symptoms started too soon. 3) Your risk is zero or close to it.
Avatar m tn t offer a new standard of care for AIDS patients worldwide, it offers a lot more than just hope (although hope is nice). For one thing, researchers now have a clear path to a cure. If the steps taken by Hutter and Thiel can be refined, simplified, and made less risky, they could become a viable protocol for thousands of other people with AIDS.
Avatar m tn Yet in the quarter century of the known HIV/AIDS epidemic, with millions of infected people worldwide, not one household contact is known to have caught HIV, if they did not have sex or share injection equipment with the infected person. Not one. Can I imagine a possibility from the sort of events you describe. Sure. I can also imagine getting hit by a meteorite, but I don't go out of my way to take precautions against it.
