Aids infection rates worldwide

Common Questions and Answers about Aids infection rates worldwide

Avatar m tn Even if one can envision a theoretical risk from fingering, in the 30 years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, nobody is known to have been infected by hand-genital or hand-anal contact. For more detailed discussions, enter "fingering" in this forum's search function and read through the nearly 1,000 threads that will show up.
Avatar m tn “Assembly is committed to developing new oral therapies with curative potential for chronic HBV, a serious disease with low cure rates that afflicts millions of people worldwide. ABI-H0731 is the first clinical candidate to emerge from our CpAM platform, which we believe will prove to be a productive source of compounds designed to attack HBV at multiple points in the viral lifecycle.
Avatar m tn However, to my knowledge there has never been a reported case of HIV transmission by cunnilingus (oral contact with female genitals), and surely over the 3 decades of the worldwide AIDS epidemic there must have been millions and millions of such exposures in the presence of cuts, nicks, oral bleeding, etc. And in the absence of overt bleeding, probably your abrasion was not deep enough to materially affect the risk anyway.
Avatar m tn Nobody in the world ever caught HIV from an event like this -- not once in the 30 years and millions of infections in the known worldwide AIDS epidemic. No unprotected sex and no sharing of drug injection equipment equals no risk of HIV. Believe it. No need to keep asking variations on the same question.
Avatar n tn I suggest you do some research to learn the basics of HIV transmission. In the nearly 3 decades of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, with millions of infected people, I'll bet not one caught the virus from the sorts of indirect trivial exposures you describe. Further, the chance your partner had HIV is very low. You're following safe sex practices. Keep it up and you have the sort of exposure you describe every day of your life and expect to never catch HIV.
Avatar f tn Genotype 1 was considered the most problematic as the cure rates were very low. With the arrival of the direct acting antivirals, the cure rates have risen to over 90%. Right now genotype 3 is the hardest to cure but there are new drugs coming that will change that.
Avatar m tn * First, the authors could find only 25 reported cases worldwide in the 30+ years of the known HIV/AIDS epidemic. Given the millions and millions of known cases, almost all of whom had positive antibody tests, this is an exceedingly small number. * Second, the results apply only to the stand-alone antibody tests. All the patients described had (or clearly would have had) positive DNA/RNA tests and p24 antigen tests. * Third, none of the reported patients was asymptomatic.
Avatar n tn Personally, I dislike this claim, as it is rather meaningless without context. Worldwide, over 350 million people are chronic with Hepatitis B, this compared with 170 million for Hepatitis C. I don't know the figure for HIV/AIDS.
Avatar n tn BANGKOK – For the first time, an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the AIDS virus, a watershed event in the deadly epidemic and a surprising result. Recent failures led many scientists to think such a vaccine might never be possible. The World Health Organization and the U.N. agency UNAIDS said the results "instilled new hope" in the field of HIV vaccine research.
12492606 tn?1459874033 That is a rhetorical question. Below is a tabulation of complication rates between 4 different classifications AF ablation centers. Tertiary referral worldwide centers, a large survey of private and medicare centers, bottom 50% medicare centers and overall medicare centers. Data is from Cappato el al worldwide survey, Desmukh el al US data set and Winkle's analysis of US medicare data. Only major complications are included. The more detailed table is at lone Afib forum site.
Avatar n tn Hi all, A week ago I traveled to south america and had sex with a prostitute. The condom broke, she realized about it and I put on a new one, so it was like 5 seconds without it. I've read in many places that I shouldn't worry because the chances of infection from a single contact are very low, but I still decided to come to this forum for some advice and mostly for comfort. I am not having lots of anxiety but I am a bit worried about the possible outcome.
Avatar m tn you want to know your status? TEST symptoms, or lack thereof, do not diagnose hiv.
Avatar m tn To better treat HIV infection, we need a better understanding of how it causes the disease we call AIDS. We also need alternative approaches to treatment," says Thomas Hope, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses and Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. "This study is important because it begins to explain how THC can influence disease progression in SIV-infected macaques.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. We get occasional questions like this -- sharp instrument injuries (pins, needles, splinters, and so on) in the environment, often in stores or workplaces, with fear that someone else might have been injured recently by the same object. The answer is always the same: absolutely no risk. In the entire 30 years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, I'm sure nobody has been infected by such an event. Same for heptatitis B andC.
Avatar f tn Past recipients of donated blood, infants born to mothers infected with viral hepatitis, and persons with sexually transmitted diseases or behaviors such as injection-drug use have risks for viral hepatitis. Baby boomers and African Americans have higher rates than others of contracting hepatitis C. Half of all Americans living with hepatitis B today are of Asian American and Pacific Islander descent, and one-third of people living with HIV also have either hepatitis B or hepatitis C.
16729681 tn?1450900862 Lot of people worldwide showing these symptoms I have the same , now very poorly I am scared this is a serious epidemic , you will start getting severe anxiety and panic attacks the doctor will say that your depressed and give you anti depressants where you think great I feel better only to go downhill again a few months later , sound to me like the Chinese like AIDS virus or some bse epidemic , call me paranoid but I've had all tests all show up negative but so did bse and this Chinese like
Avatar m tn The chance you caught HIV from a heterosexual exposure is extremely low, especially if your partner and you are both long-time UK residents, i.e. not immigrants from an country with high rates of HIV/AIDS. Finally, it is nearly impossible to have HIV for 9 years and not know it; by now you would be very sick, perhaps dead. So there is absolutely no chance HIV is a problem here.
29837 tn?1414534648 Page A02 Marijuana can improve the effectiveness of drug therapy for hepatitis C, a potentially deadly viral infection that affects more than 3 million Americans, a study has found. The work adds to a growing literature supporting the notion that in some circumstances pot can offer medical benefits.
Avatar n tn Nobody here can help what a clinic in Albuquerque thinks of heterosexual HIV infection rates, but I can tell you that the data suggest otherwise! HIV infection rates are rising across the board, and are hitting disproportionately those demographics who used to think they didn't have a risk! While gay males currently compose a disproportionate share of HIV cases, that tables can and are quickly turning. You should never think that probability alone can prevent transmission.
Avatar m tn Hi, The above doesnt mean that single exposure wont lead to an infection. That is stated over all in general observation as HIV is a fragile virus to get transmitted via penis-vaginal intercourse in single go. Its diffucult not impossible.
