The chance you caught HIV from a heterosexual exposure is extremely low, especially if your partner and you are both long-time UK residents, i.e. not immigrants from an country with high rates of HIV/AIDS. The above doesnt mean that single exposure wont lead to an infection. That is stated over all in general observation as HIV is a fragile virus to get transmitted via penis-vaginal intercourse in single go. Its diffucult not impossible.
After going through a panel test for HEPBsAg +ve, and IgM anti HBc -ve, which probably indicate a likely hood of a chronic HBV infection with review of clinical history, how would you proceed to help treat that kind of patient. And if they are not liable to treatment, what aids that conclusion?
In some recommendations, i have read monitor within arange of 4-6 weeks. In that regard are you waiting for any relapse of clinical signs or?

Dr. I am worried about possible HIV infection and confused by propability rates. I have had maybe 75-100 protected vaginal sex episodes with sex workers over the last 7.5 years. Most of these in Latin America and the Caribbean but one in Southern Africa and one in Sri Lanka.
I have never tested because I always used protection though sometimes drunk. So it is possible that I have been infected for up to 7 years.

Only rough estimates are available. But here are some pertinent data. In a study to determine the effectiveness of antiherpetic therapy (valacylovir) to prevent transmission of HSV-2, monogamous couples who were HSV-2 discordant -- i.e. one with HSV-2, the other without it -- the rate of transmission was about 5% per year. That is, the virus was transmitted in 1 in 20 couples every 12 months. The couples had unprotected sex about 2-3 times per week.
i dont think it has anything to do with democracy, we have democracy here as well, lol, OMG. the hiv rates and aids rates here are the highest in the world, to protect the future and the children we do this so that kids can be born hiv free. I cant believe u dont see the sense in making this compulsory?
You could tell your mom you need a doctor appointment because of something else that is less alarming than sexual diseases would be, such as a urinary tract infection or a kidney problem. Does anyone know the transmission rates for Hep B? I am unsure if I was ever vaccinated, but what are the chances that a one time unprotected encounter (vaginal sex) could bring Hep B? It has been 6 months since a possible exposure and have had no symptoms. I tested for all STDS (including HIV) at 3 and 6 mo and all were negative? If the female was vaccinated for Hep B, can still be a carrier if she was exposed before me? Stupid question, just asking.

Understand your predicament. As there was no mixing of body fluids it's unlikely that you may have developed HIV infection. Persisting throat infection could be due to other causes like post nasal drip or tonsillitis. But if you are in doubt, have yourself evaluated for HIV, it will help clear your worries.

I just wanted to clarify that I was concerned about spreading this to my partners genitals, not their mouth as you have mentioned above. She already has HSV1 orally. Do your comments still apply for this?
Also for my own future reference, if a future partner didn't have a prior HSV1 infection, what are the potential transmission rates if daily suppression therapy and condoms are always used??

had the lower 2 lobes of her right lung removed, then, 6 months later, 4 rounds of 2 different types of chemo, and thru it all she also had to fight an infection she got in the remaining lobe of her right lung!...For her, the surgery was much harder than the chemo...we jokingly call her the "tough old bird"...she has a cast iron stomach!! The chemo(s) made her tired, and bald, but really that was all...and around here, "bald is beautiful"!!
