453731 tn?1225199508 Carry an ID card or wear a medical alert bracelet stating that you are taking Coumadin, in case of emergency. Any doctor, dentist, or emergency medical care provider who treats you should know that you are taking Coumadin. You should not take acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin, or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) unless your doctor has told you to.
Avatar n tn The onocolgist wants to put her on tamoxifen and we have found out that there is a concern as to the interaction with coumadin. If she goes on the tamoxifen could there be a greater risk of stroke from blood clots than from discontinuing the coumadin? Can coumadin or sotalol cause cancers of any kind? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I do have to admit, I had a tough time with the very first shot. As you know, you drop coumadin and start Lovenox (which is a lower molecular weight heparin). My first kit came with a book and a DVD telling my excaty what to do. I just piched up my belly just to the side of my belly button and pushed in the needle. Remember to switch sides with each injection. After the first injection, it is much easier to do. The shots do not hurt. The needles are very small in diameter.
Avatar n tn The cardiac MRI does not tell us whether a patient needs blood thinners such as coumadin or dabigatran or not and with your mitral stenosis your risk for CVA is higher so I would definitely recommend you be on something more than aspirin and plavix.
Avatar n tn I had OHS in 1986 (age 35)...St Jude mechanical valve. Coumadin is horrible...can't get INR's regulated for any length of time. Now I have to have the valve replaced (calcium buildup) and an aortic valve aneursym repaired. So thinking of going with a tissue valve. I can't really decide if I want to have a third redo in 10-15 years because of the failure of the tissue valve. I am now 62 so still young enough to have a possible redo....have to tmake a decison before Feb. 7...
Avatar n tn Each specialist has a different opinion as to whether or not I should continue with Coumadin - the gastroenterologist is concerned anbout the long term effects and GI bleeds and the cardiologist is concerned about the ongoing possibility of emboli...I'm caught in the middle. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Other than these two issues I'm in excellent health.
Avatar f tn A withdrawal of coumadin of 3 to 5 days is common practice, in which the control of blood clotting is monitored to ensure that the level of the control achieved with coumadin is achieved with the replacement drug.
1394601 tn?1328032308 I began taking my Rebif shots without taking Advil in advance. Am I playing with fire?
Avatar f tn advil is a minor anti inflammatory I have never heard of it prescribed for this before but it could help a little I suppose more widely prescribed for GM are some of the big anti inflammatories - particularly prednisone or methotrexate I did take Naproxen for some time, (months at a pretty high dose - it really attacks your stomach lining though so I went off), which I guess is a step up from advil, and is a non steroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID), can't say if it helped with the inflamma
Avatar n tn Earlier I Was In Extreme Pain Due To A Tooth Ache I Took Advil Because I Tried Tylenol Earlier In The Day && It Did Nothing Could Me Taking Advil Hurt My Baby I'm 28 Weeks Already!
Avatar f tn Danie i agree with you!! I don't like Tylenol. It doesn't work for me at all. Advil does the job.
710673 tn?1289614144 Hi again, It seems every time I try, it tells me the site reached the max amount of questions for the day. I was ust curious to hear from others actually with a tissue valve. I keep hoping I hear about it lasting longer than I think it will. Maybe I am just wishful thinking. I really hate the idea of the Coumadin. From I understand, the Predexa isn't an option for the mechanical valve. It will be such an adjustment for me to be on Coumadin.
559992 tn?1216169738 Hi Relli, I get indigestion (have acid reflux..GERD) when I take NSAIDS. My doctor perscribed prevacid to take with my NSAID disalcid. It helped protect my stomach while taking this NSAID. You can also try milk or food with advil or alieve. I'm now taking coumadin....so I've been advised to stop taking NSAIDS. I take tylenol which helps with my arthritis. If the pain gets bad in my knee joints, my orthopedist doctor gives me a steriod shot in the joint and this helps for 3-4 months.
Avatar n tn I am taking coumadin for DVT- leifen factor V and anothe associated with acs(?). The problem with coumadin is that it puts me a t a high risk for osterosis and the limits on vitamin k2 that tell the calcium where to go is worrisome. I plavix/aspirin a viable alternative to treat dvt?If so, what is the research before I see my hematologist again? </a> was started.
Avatar m tn Okay' heres the deal. My boyfriend is supposed to take 10 MG's of coumadin sun. Tue. Thur. And Saturday and 12.5 Mgs Mon. Wed. And Fri. He doesn't have health insurance. We have found a doctor that is reasonably priced considering he doesn't have health insurance but his doctor won't write him for his blood thinners until he gets his INR. His doctor doesn't do the test in the office and it has to be done at the hospital where they want upwards of $150 to do the INR.
Avatar m tn There is a protocol for medical control of Afib. As my cardiologist explained to me, over 65 years of age with persistent Afib requires coumadin or a like medication for blood thinning. The fact that you've had a stroke already indicates a higher need of control via coumadin or a similar drug. I'm 51 with paroxysmal Afib and I'm on 81mg aspirin for it. If I were in your position, and likely I will someday, I'd stick with the more aggressive therapy.
Avatar m tn symptoms . She was treated within 30 minutes with intravenous TPA, with near 100% recovery. Coumadin was restarted. 11 months later, Mom experienced trace bright red blood with diarrhea. INR/PT within normal range, and blood count was good. She was admitted and diagnosed with colitis. Four days later she was discharged with Coumadin and Plavix, but unable to stand or walk at discharge because her left foot was red and severely swollen.
Avatar n tn Now, if the coumadin dosage and INR values are stabilized, he will need to continue with the therapy and keep monitoring his INR values. And once stabilized, as suggested by your doctor he can travel. Just caution him to take his medication regularly and to not to take any other medications without consulting his doctor, as sometimes this can change the INR values. Wish him well. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn The INR will show it, if there is a problem with his diet. He has been on Coumadin since 2002, so if there have been no major problems with his INR so far, then I wouldn't worry about it.
