serevent

Avatar n tn m now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too. will i ever get better and be able to switch to lower advair dose? my MD says i have "moderate" COPD....does it get better, or what?
Avatar f tn when i was training for half marathon last year, i had shortness of breath, so extensive testing of my lungs was done and i was told due to 20 plus years of asthma small airways in my lungs have narrowed and i was put on Advair 132/21 hfa inhaler. it helped open up my lung and i was told by more than one doctor to take this inhaler every day like people take blood pressure medicine everyday. so I did that ( i was on a blood pressure medicine too at the time 20mg of benicar).
746512 tn?1388807580 I'd say it's the increased triggers. Advair can definitely be pricey. Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.
Avatar n tn However using a long-term control medicine, like Advair, Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), should help clear it away quicker. Sometimes this test is repeated after he has used a rescue inhaler like albuterol. When there is a 20% increase the test is positive for asthma. Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol) and albuterol as needed are recommended for the treatment for asthma.
Avatar n tn I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?
Avatar m tn Symbicort contains budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate and Advair contains fluticasone and salmeterol. So while they do not have the same medications, the medication groups are the same. So id Advair was helping you, Symbicort should also help you. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder contains 2 medicines. The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
1679876 tn?1304743615 Advair has 2 medications in it. Most likely it's the salmeterol that could trigger some quick heart beats since the other med is a steroid. I use albuterol for my asthma and it does cause my heart to beat more quickly for about 10 minutes. Then it eases off but it's quite normal for that particular medication. As for interactions, when you got your Advair, didn't the pharmacist go over the instructions and potential problems with you?
Avatar n tn Yes, but your comments said that the warning was on the ICS component. It isn't. It is on the LABA component only. To quote you, "I am wary of inhaled steroids because I have had serious side effect that were worse than the ailment it was supposed to treat. So if you are prescribed something like that, ask if there are alternatives. The FDA sent out warning a year ago about inhaled steroids.
Avatar f tn While it is known that high doses, much higher than Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, of long-acting bronchodilator medicines, such as the Serevent® (salmeterol) in Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder, can cause abnormal heart rhythms, this is rare.
Avatar n tn It is also possible that some of the symptoms you describe, such as headache, shakes, racing heart, were caused by the other ingredient in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) called Serevent® (salmeterol). Many of the symptoms you describe occur with panic attacks and are relieved by leading a healthy life style. If that alone doesn't control the panic attacks, there is good, effective medicine for treatment of panic and you should request it from your doctor.
757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to Advair Skip a Day.
Avatar n tn Forgot to mention that that Advair also gave a case of severe bronchitis (which I falsely assumed was a worsening of my condition) which kept me coughing all day and all night. The FDA issued a warning last February about salmeterol (one of the components of Advair), but I found the same problem when I tried an inhaled steroid that did not contain it.
Avatar f tn There are deaths reported with the use of Advair, the prime culprit may be salmeterol. It is interesting that the death rate with or without Advair is the same. Be warned. This is a very dangerous medication. Since I need something to help me because I am having to use the nebulizer more than I would like, I have turned to natural anti-inflammatories. So far I am using vitamin B5, MSM and mullein extract, and will probably add NAC. I am doing alright, no thanks to traditional medicine.
Avatar m tn I take Advair, (Fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) once a daily inhaled. My asthma is not controlled without Advair, but is stable with one dose daily. I would like to take Harmine alkaloids (Harmine, Harmaline), but I'm not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
Avatar f tn s recommendation that you discontinue the Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder and substitute regular daily doses of albuterol was inappropriate and wrong. It is not consistent with the national guidelines for asthma treatment. The elevated residual volume is consistent with sub-optimally controlled asthma.
Avatar f tn To my knowledge Advair® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) has not been linked to strokes. Have you heard anything about this in the lay press?
Avatar f tn You will need to talk to your doctor to see if they want you to stop taking it. Advair is a preventative medicine so normally you take it every day, even if you feel good. If you stop taking it for asthma, the symptoms will come back. But no it does not have withdrawal symptoms like oral corticosteroids.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar f tn I went away for the weekend and forgot to pack my Advair, is there an over the counter medication I can take if necessary?
Avatar f tn Is it simply an after effect from being on Salmeterol for 3 years (Advair)? Will it disappear after a time or will I have to learn to live with this for the rest of my life?
