m spending close to $200 a month for meds and vitamins. That includes 6 puffs of advair MDI a day - inhaler lasts 20 days (~$120), singulair - one package is 30 days ($40), ventolin 2-4 puffs a day - lasts 50 days ($7), atrovent ~6 puffs a week (forget how much, probably $10-14) plus the vitamin D, NAC, omega 3s, calcium and B complex that my respiralogoist recommended which cost roughly $80 a month.

I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?

I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?

I'd say it's the increased triggers. Advair can definitely be pricey. Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.

I was diagnosed in Oct. 07 with moderate COPD. Was put on Advair, Spiriva and ProAir as my rescue inhaler. After being on the Advair and Spiriva for several months, I began to become ill. I have the same problem. My doc had me on 250/50 2 times daily. It became a problem for me becuase I am sensitive to medications. I don't like feeling jittery because it freaks me out LOL. Do you have a rescue inhaler? Using a rescue inhaler regularly, about every 3 - 5- hours will help open the airways so that the mucus can be expelled more easily. You are taking an expectorant (guaifenesen (Mucinex)). Pseudofed may be helpful, but it keeps me awake. Lots and lots of water would be beneficial. The Advair will help with the congstion in time as inflamation causes mucus production. It might take a while for the steroid in it to start working though.

My situation is similar to yours. I was diagnosed moderate a year ago, given advair and emergency inhaler. Do not use them because they are very expensive and like you my hubby too lost his insurance thru the employer and now we cannot get any cause of preexisting conditions. Truly, I dont see how it can get any worse. If they do not do something, we dead! And no one cares.

He is an asthmatic who is now on his 3rd type of inhaler (not counting his nebulizer), and his 3rd type of anti-fungal med.
