more than likely it is the Advair. I little known fact about Advair is that only ~16% makes it to the lungs where you want it. The rest of it sits in your mouth and throat, therefore, it is very important to rinse and gargle after each use. The drug which is good in the lungs, is bad in the mouth and throat. It can cause fungal infections, hoarseness, and temporary loss of voice. You may need to have a throat culture done to make sure you do not have a fungal infection.
In November 2015, I had a really bad allergic reaction to a coworkers perfume and had a very difficult time recovering from it. In February 2016, my doctor prescribed Advair 250/50, once a day and Singulair 10mg at bedtime. Since I've been taking the medication, I have experienced upper respiratory tract infections, sinus infections, rash (bumps on chest and shoulders), blurred vision and extreme hoarseness. My voice was limited to a slight wisper smh.
Yes..Advair is horrible for you. It brings your immune system way down. If you can go without it, I suggest you do so. I have meneire's diseases and I believe it was caused by the advair. My sister is on the Advair and has a constant sore throat but she can't breath very well without it. She could breath better before she was on advair. At first, you feel great on Advair. After a few months, for a lot of people, your health is worse.
I usually begin to feel chest tightness and hoarseness if I am talking for more than 5-10 minutes. I begin producing mucous and albuterol does offer some relief. This doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time if I have any sort of extended conversation. Has only one else experienced this? I have brought it up a few times with my GP and pulmonologist, but both sort of shrug it off. I am a 40 y.o. male who has had asthma for about 20 years.
These symptoms appeared immediately after that procedure, and have continued to this day with some of these symptoms at up or down levels during some periods of time, but the hoarseness has never subsided. It is the hoarseness that distresses me the most because there has not yet been any success by any means to cure this devastating condition. I love to sing -- participating in music is, and has always been, a huge part of my life (even when it's only a casual daily thing).
Hi, I am 30 years old. Was changed by my doctor from advair 500/50 twice a day to flovent 220 two puffs twice a day as he believed the LABA in advair was making asthma worse. He was right and feel better. Even when I haven't been on flovent/advair my peak flow has been totally normal as well as all parts of the pulmonary function test. My only main asthma symptom is tight chest hard to take a good deep breath inward. I've never had a challenge test or anything like that.
steriod medcine, advair and another inhaler. I also had a breathing treatment that did not do much..was still wheezing and very light-headed. I am a 2 pack a day smoker. After 3 weeks finally got down to light-headed and cough. Now the rash has come back.....what could be the cause???

In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.
Felt better until steroids were done.Diagnosed w/asthma in 2003.On advair since then. after the vronchitis, had an asthma attack ended up in ER. Was admitted for 3 days. IV steroids and breathing treatments. Started coughing up mucus,gagging and choking. Told the dr that I was experiencing these symptoms, still sent me home w/7 days oral steroids.At home experienced gagging, choking and suffocation. Asthma dr who changed my nebulizer meds.I sounded like I was taking helium in.
Does anyone else experience hoarseness? I have been recently I notice when I get tired. I'm not sure if it's related to the MS or not. It's not really a big deal as far as symptoms go just kind of annoying and I was curious if it could be a nerve thing or not.
Hoarseness can be due to any number of causes. Reflux, cough, vocal cord/laryngeal lesions (polyps, nodules, edema, tumors), vocal cord paralysis, post nasal drip/secretions, vocal cord irritation or infections. An exam of your vocal cords by an ent would be helpful to better assess your problem. Good luck.

Try not to frighten yourself unnecessarily. A thyroidectomy is not always indicated just because you have a nodule. It's extremely common to have them and your's is small. You would have your thyroid removed only if the nodule were cancerous, and since you only have one nodule, worst case scenario they would take one lobe. The ultrasound will show if it's impinging on your vocal chords, but since it's small, that seems unlikely.
it seems like advair is making my asthma worse. i started taking advair like 7 month ago and it seemed like for the first few months it was working but i had to become dependant on it everyday or else i would start weezing nonstop. after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better.
Is it safe to stop taking Advair cold turkey when my symptoms improve or do I need to take something else to come off it slower?
Can long term use of Advair cause bruising? I have been on 500/50 for two years in the summer months and 250/50 the remainder of the year. I am bruising easily and believe it may be a long term side effect for using Advair.
I have been cautious about creating any sort of quick, drastic, pressure change in my mouth but now, I wonder about the use of my Advair diskus. I take Advair on a regular basis for asthma and have refrained from using it in the 24 hours post-extraction because I figured the quick inhalation may dislodge the clots. Now, however, it has been two days post-extraction, and I wonder whether it is safe to use Advair without risk of dislodging the clots.
Steroids are often worse than the disease it treats. Advair almost killed me. By the way, steroids harm your immune system. And - reputable doctors are no long using Adviar 500. And in Februrary the FDA came out with a warning about Advair. They said it should only be used when nothing else worked and, even then, it should only be used short term.
Maybe you need another doctor.
I have had several problems with advair such as thrush and irregular heart beat. Also, my endocrinologist suggested that my osteopinia (sp?) could be related to advair use but it's just one possible culprit. I'm a runner and just finished a marathon and got thrush again from advair so decided I wanted to at least take a break from it. Well, it's been a few days and I have never had such breathing problems before I used advair, I have a constant headache and I'm exhausted.
I have been on Advair for one week. It has completely taken my taste and smell ability away. I am not going to take it any more, but will my taste and smell senses return with time?
