Common Questions and Answers about Advair and smoking

advair

Avatar n tn I quit smoking about two and a half weeks ago, and have been taking my advair for about three weeks, and I still have not improved at all. Should I continue this treatment or maybe see another doctor???
Avatar f tn I quit smoking 4 1/2 months ago, and I'm still not coughing. Every once and a while I sneeze, and now that I'm taking Advair for asthma, I now clear my throat a lot. I smoked for 20 years. Should I be worried?
975514 tn?1324997938 During the same time my asthma was getting worse. After eight months of smoking again and then the death of my father -in-law, my husband and I just quit smoking together on the same day practically and it wasn't even planned. We were just fed up. This was almost five years ago and we haven't looked back since! Anyhow, I am totally off track. Unfortunately, my asthma didn't go away with the cigarette smoking.
Avatar n tn s too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too. will i ever get better and be able to switch to lower advair dose? my MD says i have "moderate" COPD....does it get better, or what?
Avatar n tn i got what was dianosed by my doctor as trush so he took me off of advair and kept me on the predisone and gave me a precription for yeast infectioon.i finished the precription.and low and behold the white cotton like mucus is back in fhe timeull force. i'm really sick of being sick all the time my heart rate is 104 my age is 68. i might add i'm sweaty all time.
746512 tn?1388807580 I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly. I am already using 800mcg of pulmicort a day and even at that level it has been giving me muscle cramps and messing up my period, so I don't want to increase it. Any comments?
Avatar n tn smoking and pregnancy don't mix... you should quit smoking for the sake of your baby... If you don't quit smoking, your could have birth defect baby due to smoking... About your asthma... you need to talk to your medical provider about what medicine can you take... I don't know if too late for the development of the baby or not.. but if you quit now.. still better than nothing... Right now you are not thinking for yourself anymore...
Avatar n tn Several months ago, I noticed asthma symptoms returning. I saw my pulmonary doc last week and he upped advair to 250/50. How long should it take until I see a noticeable change? Also I have been having a dry cough, which I read can be a side effect of advair. Should that go away eventually?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me I had chronic bronchitis and I now take medication (Advair) for it but I want to know if chronic bronchitis is contagious. I know that acute bronchitis is contagious but I didn't think chronic bronchitis was. I'm asking because my boyfriend says that everyday after he sees me his throat feels sore and he starts coughing a lot with a lot of mucus. I smoke and he doesn't.
Avatar m tn t have asthma, my RAD was only temporary, and that the Advair and Proventil would keep me breathing okay until it cleared up. That was 4 days ago. In general, my breathing is fine right when I wake up in the morning, before and after my morning dose of Advair and on the way into work. Not long after I get there, my chest tightens up and I have to work to get enough air most of the day, aside from when I distract myself with something for awhile.
Avatar m tn I have moderate to advanced copd and take both advair and spriva. My hep doc didn't see any problem with it For me it came down to a choice of whether or not I wanted to stay of the oxygen tank.
Avatar m tn I am about your age, also have emp in the moderate range and am supposed to take advair and I have a resue inhaler. The doctor told me to stay active because if I do not, I will lose lung function. Walk, or whatever you can do each day. Swimming is great exercise and I know they have classes for exercise for people with this disease. Ask your doc to send you to one of them.
1679876 tn?1304743615 I have been given Advair to take for my copd, but one side effect is fast and irregular heart beat, chest pain and increased BP----I take Metoprolol succ er for my PSVT--- -Will the Advair Diskus work against my metoprolol meds? I am alllergic to Penasylin, tetrocycoline, decadron, dyphahidromine, and benedril. My other meds I take are: zolof, welbrutrin, seroquel xr, gabapentine, tizanidine hcl and pravastatin sodium----will there be any adverse reactions to any of these meds?
Avatar f tn Now, however, it has been two days post-extraction, and I wonder whether it is safe to use Advair without risk of dislodging the clots. I am also taking oral contraceptives (I have been informed that this medication may increase the risk for clotting problems). I am feeling more respiratory congestion with each additional day off Advair and would like to know if it's safe to use Advair so soon after wisdom teeth extraction. Thanks!
757137 tn?1347196453 Advair has a steroid in it, which can cause hair growth, etc. I took Advair for my COPD briefly. I simply did not like the side effects that it seem to give me.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar f tn You may also, as the pulmonologist suggested have asthma. If you do,your lung function should improve in responsie to the Advair and the rescue inhaler, but there are no guarantees. You stated that your "chest hurts". Chest pain is not a symptom of chronic lung disease, be it asthma or COPD, so your doctors should try to determine what else might be causing your pain.
5037123 tn?1362663006 Last week I was diagnosed with Asthma (through a breathing test) after two bouts with Bronchitis and lots of coughing. My doctor gave me Advair. After 3 doses I began getting back pain between my shoulder blades. Not sure if it was from the Advair I took another dose and the pain got worse. I contacted my doctor and he changed me to Symbicort. I had no problem for 3 days, but after today's dose the back pain is back. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong when inhaling.
Avatar f tn To my knowledge Advair® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) has not been linked to strokes. Have you heard anything about this in the lay press?
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
Avatar m tn He told me my results were consistent with asthma and prescribed me Advair while also using Proair for relief. Its been one week and the Advair hasnt made my symptoms any better. Im starting to wonder if I have something other than asthma. Any thoughts/advice/feedback? Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar f tn I saw the doctor and he put me on Ventolin with my Advair and antibiotic. I saw him a week later worse and with thrush in my mouth and throat. He ordered a CT scan and put me in the hospital. My right lung showed two small spots under 1 cm. I relasped the afternoon he released me from the hospital with wheezing and a cough with phlem. He put me back on some inhalers. I finally started getting some better, but he wanted to order another CT. This was done three weeks from the first one.
