Avatar f tn Its for adults with ADD and pretty well runs through all kinds of adult ADD stuff. Its kinda of helter-skelter, but the writer is ADD, and it tends to fit his personality I think. http://jeffsaddmind.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your friend has been dealing with a normal reaction of depression to her ADD symptoms she has always had. It's possible she even experienced low-self esteem because of the ADD -- it's difficult to accomplish goals and get work done and feel good about oneself, which in turn brings down self-confidence. I know you are worried about your friend but maybe the medication is actually working for her.
707438 tn?1240963240 I know I have ADD as an adult and it can be frustrating. I get distracted easily and what really bugs me is I will get excited about some project but become quickly bored and leave it. So I always have half finished projects. RR is right, though, about the creativity. I guess it has it's good points. I think you learn to compensate a lot as an adult. But yes, adults certainly can have ADD. I don't think you just outgrow it. You learn to deal with it better, that's all.
Avatar f tn Also, if you do get an ADD diagnosis, it means that you also could get a 504 plan which could include more time on tests, etc. Here is a link to info on adult ADD that covers a lot of ground. The site is http://www.additudemag.com/slideshow/139/slide-1.html?utm_source=eletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=May And yes, with a good doctor who understands ADD, you will be able to get medication and if you do have ADD - it will make a difference.
1453183 tn?1287852619 I appreciate you taking a look at the study, but the problem is that they haven't tested the long term effects on the mental health of children with ADD / ADHD. And the tests done so far were done on rats not children, so your comment "The depressive effects were seen when normal kids were exposed to stimulants" is incorrect. How do we know that giving a child with ADD / ADHD ritalin will not cause them to be depressed over time?
Avatar n tn Well, I am trying to determine if I may be suffering from ADD or other medical conditions. I've tried taking online tests concerning ADD, and all of them say I'm a candidate or suffer from moderate ADD. I have problem concentrating in class, I try to stay focus but it's like one word out of my professor's mouth and my mind wanders off making a story of its own in my head or about me telling someone about that.
Avatar n tn I have to make clear, though, that I don't actually have an official diagnosis, because I live in the UK and it's really hard to get a diagnosis as an adult (my doctor didn't really seem aware that adults could even have ADD!). However, I'm 99.9% certain that I do have ADD (I'm a psychology student so I'm not basing this purely on a few websites I've read or anything! I've read the dianostic criteria, many academic papers & several good books.
Avatar n tn I can understand your concern, especially since his symptoms are affecting his schoolwork and self-esteem. Video EEG monitoring refers to continuous minute to minute monitoring of the brain wave activity as well as video recording of the patient's activities. Patients are kept overnight for at least one day and then as long as needed for data gathering.
Avatar n tn Congratulations on trying to do something about what is going on with you. Well, the first thing you probably need is to get a real good idea of what ADHD or ADD is. The link on this site is pretty good. http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/2157/Attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-ADHD Another good site is - http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/ Meds might well help you - or not. There really is only one way to find out.
429949 tn?1224695179 HAS ANYONE HAD ADULT ADEM? I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THIS FOR NOW, BUT NEUROLOGIST IS STILL CHECKING ME WITH REPEAT MRI's EVERY SIX MONTHS TO WATCH FOR EVIDENCE OF MS. HAS ANYONE GONE THROUGH ADULT ADEM OR HAS ANYONE BEEN STUCK BETWEEN THESE TWO DIAGNOSIS' S. AS ADEM IS RARE IN ADULTS I WOULD BE THANKFUL TO TALK TO ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH THIS ILLNESS AND CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT.
Avatar n tn com where I took 2 detailed online tests(used incidentally by many doctors at clinics I realized later) and they came back highly probable being Inattentive ADD. What… I hadn’t heard of that one. Symptoms were right on with my situations. Wow.
Avatar f tn I have 2 adults daughters 20 and 18 both with ADD, and I have ADD myself, I was not diagnosed untill my late 30's with this and thought I just had full on kids as I had no idead what ADD is and learnt to copy no medications by learning diferent parenting methods, my questions is now they are older there are different issues that I do not want them to learn the hard way like I di, my youngest is very unsettled and changes jobs, has a lot of sickies, changes boyfriends (all classic of ADD I did
Avatar n tn however, if contracted as an adult it is much more difficult and problematic, with symptoms simil;ar to what you are expressing. i guess all in all....i would add that to the testing you will be asking for, but these tests are not always automatically given at all...you MUST be specific in your request of them. good luck with everything....glad you found your way to this site.... cheers!! hey all...
Avatar n tn I've had a mystery problem that's worrying me .I had this in august of this year.Got rid of it.I've had this again earlier this month, got rid of it & it's back again. I start out with chills , burning eyes , post nasal drip, wet sticky lungs, bronco-spasms, tightness of the chest all day , worsening at some points to gasping for air.Inflamation in back between shoulders, itchy tickle in my chest like excema only internal. I went to my regular doctor a month ago, he ordered a chest x-ray.
Avatar f tn Yet even when I brought that to her (my Drs) attention She said safe want writing me anymore tests because my tests came back fine... However, I suffer from severe adult acne, mainly along my jawline, but lately it's also been on my cheeks. I'm 32yo & want to have kids but many symptoms are mainly in the reproductive area. Every month I loathe getting my period, because I'm literally out of commission in bed for upwards of 1week, passing huge blood clots of 1-3" long...

Avatar m tn Well, he certainly does have many of the normal symptoms for a ADD/ADHD child. I agree with you on his IQ assessment. In fact to give an assessment in first grade is kind of weird anyway. A child with ADD will always do worse on a test like that due to lack of ability to focus. If he had a very experienced and patient tester, it might be kind of accurate for that point in time - and nothing else.
Avatar m tn Well, you certainly do have many of the symptoms of ADD or inattentive ADHD. I have many links on the problem, but these 3 are pretty good ones. And, you might want to consider sharing them with your parents. http://www.additudemag.com/slideshow/170/slide-1.html http://helpguide.org/articles/add-adhd/attention-deficit-disorder-adhd-in-children.htm https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Symptoms of ADHD impact important adult tasks such as remembering to pay the mortgage, paying attention while driving, or managing your children’s schedules. Studies have shown that people with ADHD have higher rates of underachievement, car accidents, career setbacks, and substance use. Adults with ADHD have significant problems functioning in their daily lives.
Avatar f tn I am 33 years old and also have gastroschisis. Many of the same symptoms you describe I am also experiencing so you are not alone. I was recently diagnosed with a severe case of gallstones along with common bile duct and hepatic obstructions which explain a lot of the pain I am in.
Avatar n tn I forgot to mention that I took the ritalin 3 times a day.
Avatar n tn In the morning: -187.5mg EffexorXR -10mg Lexapro -10mg Adderal To sleep: -100mg Trazadone -50mg Seroquel After nearly 6 weeks of nothing more than side effects that seemed to be making me more depressed/anxious, i began to become more skeptical of my recent dx's. I researched and learned that my issues could be thyroid related. Soooo i met with an endo and he ran the following tests: On 9/26/07 Thyroxine(t4)- 7.38 (5.1-14.1)ug/dl T-Uptake- .996 (.8-1.
Avatar m tn 1. unprotected penetrating vaginal with a penis 2. unprotected penetrating anal sex with a penis 3. sharing needles that you inject with. The only way to get HIV is if you did one of the 3. The situation you describe is a long way from any of these 3. Even with blood, lactation, cuts, rashes, burns, etc the air or the saliva does not allow inactivated virus to infect from touching, external rubbing or oral activities.
Avatar f tn ) --------------------- Just to add... what Sandman2 said is quite true! Once you've had experience with ADD, you can tell the difference. You just know. Things don't add up.... they seem very intelligent one moment, and mentally challenged the next. Or their test scores don't match what they show when it comes to knowledge. I would get very impatient with tedious things such as tests. Even last year, before I was diagnosed, we'd have an open book quiz.
Avatar m tn I'm experiencing strong symptoms of Hepatitis at 6 weeks post-exposure. I took an antibody test for both HBV and HCV at four weeks post-exposure with negative results. I've heard that tests for both viruses are only 90% accurate at 6 months at which point the infection is considered chronic.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to develop a food allergy in adulthood that you have never experienced before? I'm 32 years old and have recently developed unexplained head pain; a CAT scan showed nothing abnormal. I had a 24-hour respite from the head pain and then it returned. The only thing I could associate with the change was eating chocolate and can recall an increase in my chocolate consumption over the past two weeks. Can an adult develop a food allergy from out of nowhere?
Avatar f tn If you have to know the truth in order to keep living with him, ask them both to take polygraph tests. Alternatively, you could explain to your daughter that you either have to believe her and leave your husband, or not believe her and possibly compound the pain she felt as a child. Ask her how she would feel if you stayed with your husband without knowing if what she says is true or not.
