Avatar n tn There may also be subclinical depression which is a common cause for memory complaints - consider having him evaluetd by an adolescent psychologist or psychiatrist (there are some at CCF), to root this out. An MMPI - a detailed psychological/personality questionnaire would be useful also . While memory problems can be as a result of frequent or uncontrolled seizures, it would be unusaul not tohave had any witnessed seizures, unless he is alone for long periods of time.
Avatar f tn They can assess a person/child against a list of symptoms that are collectively named ADD/ADHD - for lack of much better understanding. When they test for the flu, they can list the symptoms and check them off (temp, ache, cough, etc), but they can also TEST for a virus and yes/no its there. But in medicine those symptoms alone can mean many things. Same for attention and hyperactivity. 2.
Avatar n tn I also wanted to add that it is very common for children to have traits of both and/or other disorders. I think sometimes their tends to be a blur between the two when looking at issues of focus/attention and impulsiveness. But for a diagnosis a number of professionals should be involved in assessing your daughter. She will need to be seen by a Speech and Language Therapist to see what her language and social skills are like.
Avatar f tn Trouble with a test like this, is that if he was told he could play on the junglegym after he was done - he could easily focus long enough to finish. If this was the only thing the doctor did to determine if he has ADHD or ADD it was not sufficient to rule it out. " there is no simple test (like a blood test or a short written test) to determine whether someone has ADHD.
780647 tn?1304024542 One thing that helps ADD symptoms is swimming. Michael Phelps, the guy who won all those olympic gold medals for swimming in last year's olympics.... he has ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADD back in college many years back. I never really did much about it because I hated the way medication made me feel. Also if you have a smaller child, you don't want to overmedicate a kid when you can use other techniques. Swimming is supposed to help ADHD and ADD.
Avatar f tn Standard method is usually a questionnaire filled out by parents and teachers. They Psyc then ranks the answers in terms of things like attention span, hyperactivity, etc. Since it is standardized for elementary school kids (and maybe higher), you would see questions that are meant for higher grade level kids. Questions you chose not to answer wouldn't matter as they are looking for his traits or things that he does. They would never send the results home.
Avatar n tn after he has eaten, hes like a little angel - talking nicely, sitting still and generally behaving well - until approximately one hour later, when i start to notice the symptoms again (he turns into his jekyl/hyde character again) and starts to do silly things..... so i feed him (a healthy snack always) and hes fine again. Obviously, the pre-school cannot feed him every hour, so he behaves badly there. Does anyone else have this probelm, or can identify with any of this?????
Avatar f tn 8 (range 2.0-4.4) Everything seems to be normal but I have so many symptoms even my body temperature at 3 PM is around 98.2, sometimes lower and other days it's 98.7. For the past several days I have been feeling ok, but I have days that I am just beyond exhausted. I cannot sleep at night, I cannot remember words, my thoughts are not coherent. I am bilingual and cannot remember either language. My hair is thinning, half a cup of conditioner will not make it normal.
572651 tn?1531002957 Hello everyone, As I read the comments of yet another one of us being sent away, being told that everything is ok when you know darn well its not, I am reminded of all my heart sisters and a question comes to mind. So many women with heart symptoms are told it's in their head, and it often takes a catastrophic event (like a heart attack or even death!) to get the docs to listen and believe that something is wrong. Men with chest pains get looked at entirely different than women.
Avatar f tn Candida albicans is a natural occurring strain of yeast fungus found in low populations in healthy individuals. 55646 tn?1263664409 There are felt to be some people who do not have symptoms that they can recognize. However, symptoms are not the only key to transmission, so though they are of interest, they are not our only interest. "You can have HSV 2 on your foot or your mouth and vice a versa with HSV 1." Well, technically, I suppose that is true.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not on adderall, I am on concerta. I was diagnosed with adult ADD in the summer of 2005, at the age of 32, and I never experienced ADD symptoms my entire life through school, college. Per my former psychiatrist, it was brought on by the onset of major life stressors, (I simply began to forget so much) and I took a questionnaire. I have 2 little ones, now 4 and 7. It was frustrating to not have control over my short term memory.
82861 tn?1333457511 She suggested we report her to Adult Protective Services. I spent all afternoon last Saturday writing a 9-page report to APS. The State moved quickly - I'll give them that much, but when the shrink showed up at her house he said her dementia wasn't bad enough to remove her rights. That was my last attempt. I don't know what else to do. Mom won't allow an aide to help her. The one time I arranged for one Mom fired her after the first day.
Avatar n tn Although some doctors recommend encouraging children to be infected with chicken pox to offer protection for adult life despite the fact that chicken pox may lead to more severe complications (though rare).
Avatar f tn But I ready that New York Presbyterian does laparoscopy transplants on some patients and this sounds really interesting. Not sure if they are doing adult to adult yet but I am going to check it out. My MELD is 11 right now and my CTP score is 6 so I am hanging in there and want to keep hanging in there. My GI said the largest problem is the Lupus factor and the unknown. All hepatitis including auto immune is negative.
Avatar f tn I am a recovering addict with severe ADD and I take 40mg of Adderall XR daily. ADD that is properly diagnosed and treated, the treatment will help the symptoms that we used to self medicate. No one with true ADD can become addicted to this stimulant because it does not act as a stimulant in an ADD mind. I can take my medication, eat then take a nap. I asked my doctor why it effects me that way and the opposite way in my 10 year old son. He says it responds differently in adults.
Avatar m tn I think you've gotten some good responses, and I really liked OH's line about this not being a clear-cut issue, there are usually more questions then answers with a lot of HCV issues...at least to me... When I was first diagnosed, almost seven years ago now, Pegysus was still in trials and about to be put on market...
Avatar n tn I read 123 Magic, Power Parenting for Children with ADD/ADHD, Taking Charge of ADHD and these all are excellent books and they all helped. The best thing you can do is give lots of specific praise for good behavior and do not react to the bad. Detach and ignore. I don't mean don't try to correct and teach but don't overreact and let your praise be much more than your corrections. This is very hard to do but how you react controls how he is going to act.
Avatar n tn Klatzky and colleagues studied data from 129,580 Kaiser Permanente members who completed baseline background health questionnaires and an alcohol questionnaire between 1978 and 1985. By 2001, 330 of these patients developed cirrhosis-199 were diagnosed with alcoholic cirrhosis and 131 with nonalcoholic cirrhosis. Sixty-five percent of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and 54% of patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis were men, and in both groups about half of the patients were 50 or younger.
1086730 tn?1258455578 sleep paralysis is very common and the symptoms are very similar to what you've mentioned, tylerallison. sadly, i'll have to add that i'm not a doctor and that you simply shouldn't take this as any type of advise or recommendation, or especially diagnosis...as it isn't. it's merely an observation of what MAY explain your syptoms. then again, it may not...so you should see a doc...
544292 tn?1268886268 It is more like I felt my brain was being reattached to itself. Painful! Very, very painful! Add to this the constant sensitivity to light, Two steps forward. One step back. Sometimes three steps forward, one step back. Sometimes (like today) One step back. OK. Whatever. I'll just accept it, get as physically comfortable as possible and breathe thru it. Trying to remember how long it's been? 4 years I would say. Tramadol it's bad bad bad bad bad medicine.
Avatar f tn my child is almost 10, saw phychiatrist recently because my son had the diagnosis of adhd since age 4, while on concerta 36, he had severe side effects which were concerning to me so he saw a psychiatrist, who saw autisic symptoms and she is sure he is aperger's, i've noticed lots of odd behaviours in the last 2 yrs but thought was adhd, he is now off meds and no longer hyper 2-4-7, but when when he gets overstimulated by noise or other kids, he gets extremely hyper and aggitated, sits on floor
Avatar f tn Symptoms listed for MS are double vision, loss of balance, pain, exhaustion, bowel and bladder issues, numbness and tingling, concentration and memory problems. Yes i have a laundry of symptoms as you put it. I would call them Multiple Symptoms. I can't say as sure as you can supermum_ms that i don't have MS. I wish i could. Not everyone who has MS has the same symptoms which is why it's so difficult to diagnose. It's complex.
Avatar n tn I hate to wade into this argument, as I have so many times before, but I think there should be some other sides that should be argued. You seem to be a really reasonable, intelligent person..... the type of poster who can "agree to disagree" and not feel threatened if someone disagrees with you - maybe not all of your points, but at least some of them.
799827 tn?1237599735 She should be going to a Social Skills Group, she should have adult support during playtimes and dinnertimes and she should be being taught how to initiate social interaction (as a starter) and play and the adult on the playground should be helping her to use the skills she has learnt on how to initiate from the SALT. Those targets and how they will be met should be in her IEP, and it should be monitored and recorded how she is doing with this skills. And that is just one aspect.
551343 tn?1506834118 Thanks for starting this new group, Mrs. Aristotle!! I have been suffering with symptoms on and off for 20 yrs, but since 2006 they have been constant and worsening. I think it was around 2001 or 2002, when I knew that something was terribly wrong, due to extreme fatigue. Went to a neuro this Jan and was dismissed because I am without health ins and could not afford all the required testing.
Avatar n tn For the past 4 years I have been experiencing horrible symptoms. It seemed that the whole thing started as a sinus infection but then I went for a CT scan of sinuses and they were clear. I have been having symptoms of dizziness, head pain, shakiness and a spaced out kind of foggy feeling like i am watching my life from the outside - all day every day. There are some times for a couple of hours during the day that the symptoms may lift and give me a few moments to live- but not much.
Avatar f tn I think i feel like he is actually doing something helpful at last, he is listening to me more, he said my issues go a lot deeper than he ever thought and that the work he has been doing has just been dealing with the symptoms not the core problems which is why i never get any better. I keep forgetting its your winter, its lovely here today. Yeah, not sleeping definelty doesn't help either it was 3am this morning i was still awake but i slept late then. How did it go with your GP?
