Avatar m tn The major sign of zinc deficiency is affected taste. The zinc taste test is recommended. I have had this done for free at my local pharmacy showing i had zinc deficiency. You can also purchase zinc sulfate to try at home. I can't say for sure what all my zinc deficiency symptoms were as i has other severe deficiency states and medical conditions concurrently.
Avatar m tn Copper supplements are incredibly cheap, but you want to be sure you have the deficiency. Copper and Zinc are in balance, so be careful you don't deplete your zinc. Using bracelets won't work. Again, supplementation is very cheap with this one, and you only need a very small amount. Or you can research foods that are rich in copper and do it that way.
Avatar f tn Elevated TSH with normal labs is called subclinical hypothyroidism. There may or may not be any hypothyroid symptoms with this lab result. Exercising, eating better and correcting any deficiency states might see the TSH come down. I'd say retest in say 6 months. I have read you may become sensitive to foods you eat it often but if you stop eating those foods for some time you might be able to tolerate them again.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctors about zinc deficiency. Zinc is essential to a healthy immune system and a deficiency in it causes hair loss. Another thought would be thyroid deficiency. Just a couple of thoughts for you to run by your doctors. I don't know if they can test zinc, but there are several tests for thyroid that can be run. Make sure that you get all of them. Sometime the first more simple tests are inconclusive.
Avatar m tn CNS causes are brain tumour, aneurysm, hormonal disturbances, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, zinc deficiency, malnutrition etc.Loss of taste sensation can be due to nasal infections, flu, common cold, dryness of mouth, medications like antithyroid medications, rifampicin, gingivitis, vitamin B12 or zinc deficiency. You should consult a primary care physician. Based on your clinical examination findings he may further refer you to the concerned specialist. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause.
417564 tn?1287982827 and ZINC is also extremely important.....did everyone here know that magnesium AND zinc deficiency speeds up the development of tolerance to all opiods? i didn't know that til i read it this morning..... anyway, great post....thanks for all of it!! :-) K.
Avatar n tn Commonly due to nutrient deficiency but may indicate low or deficient levels of immunglobulins. Deficiency states that list muscle twitches include magnesium deficiency, vitamin D, vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin A is also needed for good eye health. Nutrients needed for a healthy immune system: vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamins C, vitamin D, vitamin E, copper, iron, selenium, and zinc. Magnesium is needed for vitamin D absorption.
Avatar f tn The peditrician thinks these are great, I dont understand? She said that ferritin was a test for adults. Is there somewhere else I should be posting this? I would love some more feedback. Are the optimal values the same for children as they are adults?
Avatar f tn I remember asking my doctor if the vit D deficiency could be causing the fatigue, but she said not with that minor of a deficiency.
Avatar n tn Their contention is supported by growing scientific evidence. The connection between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and ADHD has been confirmed by studies in which youngsters with ADHD, when compared with non-ADHD children had much lower blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid necessary for normal function of the eyes and the cerebral cortex (the brain region that handles higher functions such as reasoning and memory).
Avatar n tn I am not sure about the tumor connection. White spots under the nails may be a zinc deficiency -- a multivitamin may help that.
Avatar n tn Zinc helps to heighten our concentration, which is important for study, storing information and facilitates in times of brain stress. Zinc deficiency may trigger memory loss, movement impediment and muddled thinking.
Avatar f tn ve had insulin resistance for decades which is why I was low in magnesium and zinc for decades. My symptoms of zinc deficiency included poor sense of taste and smell, poor appetite, very fussy eater, night blindness, white spots on nails. I also healed very slowly but that was notably due to vitamin B12 malabsorption although low zinc wasn't helping matters. Since correcting my zinc deficiency I can now eat cooked carrots that are burnt on the edges - fussy much?
Avatar f tn Kennedy - I thought that supplements such as Omegas, Vitamin B complex, magnesium and zinc have shown to help ADD/ADHD. I agree that, these supplements will not eliminate the symptoms. I think that research ahs shown that these supplements help to reduce the symptoms and also reduce the amount of medicine needed, assuming the parent decides to use medication. I would appreciate your comments.
Avatar f tn ve had issues similar to this although the pain was in my esophogus when swallowing. In my case this was due to copper deficiency (due to taking zinc tablets - too much zinc lowers copper) affecting my nerves. I also had excessive saliva and difficulty swallowing due to vitamin B12 deficiency (another deficiency that affects the nerves). Sounds like you also have some neurological issue going on although I can't say what is causing it.
467977 tn?1262714747 Hi all, my husband is needing to know a good over-the-counter drug to help with his ADHD. It's mainly just to help him concentrate and study for med school (the irony). He had no time to see a Dr during the week b/c of his school schedule. Anyone know of any vitamins/otc drugs that will help calm him and help him concentrate?? Thanks in advance...
Avatar m tn Thank you for your response, is it a macupapular rash?
Avatar m tn I just found out that there is a class-action lawsuit against the companies that make denture adhesive. It seems that these adhesives contain enough zinc to cause many of the my FMS symptoms. I've been wearing dentures for 18 years and I have always used the same brand of adhesive, which is made by one of the companies targeted by the lawsuit. I called my Dr this am to arrange a blood test to determine the my zinc levels.
Avatar f tn They subside when I take high phosphorus foods like meats. I read that calcium supplements can cause phosphorus deficiency. Please see: http://www.nutraingredients.com/Research/Calcium-supplements-should-contain-phosphorous-too-says-study I have done blood tests and the results for calcium and phosphorus came back normal. But I read that blood calcium does not reflect dietary calcium.
Avatar f tn Gastric bypass can produce Zinc deficiency and condition resembling 'Acrodermatitis enteopathica type' or kwashiokor like blisters on skin.Nutritional correction would help in recovery. in both if so.
1393879 tn?1288725449 Maybe take it even further back; magnesium deficiency has been attributed to ADD/ADHD, and magnesium is needed to handle stress, and stress depletes it. Stress, nutritional and other, is what strains the adrenals; so, the magnesium may be one of the nutrients that when depleted, leads to adrenal problems, and likewise, ADD/ADHD. That is a possible theory. "...(there are, by the way, no cures for mental illness and disorder, unlike that of many... physical diseases." I disagree.
