Avatar n tn Also, in 1996, researchers from the Department of Psychiatry, Technical University, Faculty of Medicine, Trabzon, Turkey, reported that levels of free fatty acids as well as zinc were severalfold lower in ADHD children compared to non-ADHD children. The Doctor's Prescription "We shouldn't be prescribing medicine simply because that's the easiest way to go," notes Dr. Mark Stein, who runs a University of Chicago clinic for children and adults with the disorder.
Avatar n tn Many of the cravings mentioned here-ice, sand, clay, concrete, soil and chalk-are definitely from a mineral deficiency. A deficiency in zinc leads to an imbalance of metals: low usable copper, which leads to low blood iron (as someone mentioned) as well as high storage iron (dangerous). Heavy metals can accumulate in zinc deficiency because zinc normally takes them out of the body, and heavy metals then displace zinc further.

Avatar f tn I had chest pain from vitamin B12 deficiency and magnesium deficiency personally. I can recommend sublingual B12 (I prefer the spray) and magnesium chelated with amino acid supplements at the very least just to see if you feel any better. I see you have depression as well. I had severe depression due to vitamin B12 malabsorption in particular but other conditions from magnesium deficiency to hypothyroidism also caused mental health issues as well.
Avatar n tn Your son may be undertreated and need an increase in medication or additional T3 medication. Do you have any thyroid labs you can post? Nutritional Healing - Dopamine Deficiency...

Avatar m tn Amphetamines are thought to block the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. This theoretically leaves more of these neurotransmitters available in the brain. However if you have low neurotransmitters to start with medications either will not work well or work for a while then stop working. The precursors that go into the methylation cycle for SAMe, neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin are methionine, folate, B12, B6, TMG (trimethylglycine) and zinc, and maybe calcium and magnesium.
1204383 tn?1265653338 hello I am an adhd OCD, Anxiety,Panic Disorder, and depressed adult male 35+ years in age with no history of drug abuse of any kind. I was diagnosed as a child and adult. Avatar n tn I've had severe serotonin and dopamine deficiency from numerous conditions including nutrient deficiency states - notably vitamin B12 malabsorption (severe serotonin deficiency of note!), magnesium, other B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, iron, vitamin A..., hypothyroidism, severe insulin resistance, estrogen deficiency, adrenal insufficiency.
Avatar n tn Several previous studies indicated that some physical symptoms reported in ADHD are similar to symptoms observed in essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency in animals and humans deprived of EFAs. We reported previously that a subgroup of ADHD subjects reporting many symptoms indicative of EFA deficiency (L-ADHD) had significantly lower proportions of plasma arachidonic acid and docosahexaenoic acid than did ADHD subjects with few such symptoms or control subjects.
5449076 tn?1368130586 "lack of motivation physically but not mentally". I'm not sure what to make of this symptom. Dopamine deficiency affects mental and physical health. Hypothyroidism is one of the causes of dopamine deficiency.
Avatar f tn Mood swings, ADD/ADHD, lack of motivation, are a few of the many listed symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency elevates reverse T3 which blocks T3 from doing its job and leads to hypothyroid symptoms. I had severe adrenal insufficiency due to severe vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause either cortisol depletion or high cortisol levels. I couldn't handle ANY stress.
Avatar m tn I had 50 + symptoms of severe magnesium deficiency and one of my symptoms was nail biting. SEVERE nail biting for decades vanished with magnesium. Holy moly~! :) Magnesium is needed for dopamine production too. I can personally recommend magnesium chelated with amino acids supplements for better absorption. Avatar f tn -Try trial thyroid treatment with an alternative doctor just to see if it helps. 2. I have ADD or ADHD. I've had doctors suggest CFS to me and family -For the CFS, could try some viral testing and antiviral meds if my doctor allows. Or see an infectious disease specialist for this. -I've been reading from alternative doctors that underneath ADD and CFS is an adrenal problem...

Avatar n tn Symptoms of an essential fatty acid deficiency are vision problems, dry itchy skin, frequent thirst, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and behavior problems. There have been a few scientific studies done on Omega-3 fatty acids and how they relate to behavior problems, and the best one was done at Purdue University and used Efalex. Apparently some kids with behavior problems have an essential fatty acid deficiency, and getting at least 490 mg DHA is the key to improvement.

Avatar f tn I had most of those symptoms you list and many more personally due to magnesium deficiency. I've still have dopamine deficiency symptoms despite treating a ridiculously long list of nutrient deficiency states, hypothyroidism, adrenals, and exercising to help improve levels. I have noted some improvements but there might be some genetic element perhaps since my father has Parkinson's (depleted dopamine).
Avatar m tn Its hard for me to focus and just get work done, to the point where I occasionally take ADHD meds my friends give me. I'm always quiet. I have a lot of social anxiety and i'm really bad in certain social situations. But its not because I do stupid things or anything, I just get a feeling like... I'm too tired to really get into the conversation and be enthusiastic about it. Like when I talk to someone usually its hard for me to seem interested, even if I am.
Avatar f tn I've suffered with dopamine deficiency my whole life. I was voted most unorganised at school. smh lol. I rarely yawn which I only just found out was a symptom of dopamine deficiency. My father has Parkinson's which is depleted dopamine so I think something is going on with genetics perhapss since I have corrected a long list of causes of dopamine deficiency and still have symptoms although thankfully a bit better.
Avatar f tn * Deficiency states: The brain requires many nutrients, including protein, high-quality fats and starches, many vitamins and two dozen or more minerals. Among the most important nutrients are calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, iodine, L-glutamine, L-taurine, choline, thiamine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, other B-complex vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin D.

501163 tn?1218079838 It was noted that the majority of the patients had an iron deficiency and had low levels of dopamine. One elderly lady who had it very badly was on a parkinson drug for it called levadopa. My pain doctor wanted to use natural supplements and avoid. It was also noted that the more active the people were as far as an exercise regime, the less severe the symptoms were for them. Below is what he prescribed for them. All are over the counter supplements.
1618236 tn?1408075814 Depression Anxiety Bipolar spectrum syndrome Borderline personality disorder Psychotic disorder (typically, paranoid schizophrenia) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Inattentive ADHD These symptoms can be due to low free T3 (active thyroid hormone), and/or adrenal insufficiency. This is found to be especially common for patients treated with T4 medications such as synthroid or levothyroxine.
Avatar n tn (the only one I have never had) Because of the tunnel vision, concentration/memory loss, and twitching I really thought I had ADHD (all shared symptoms). I am starting to doubt that now. Again apparently all of these symptoms do not affect everyone, and when they do you may not even know it is related. Also I am not a doctor, so don't take my word for it. Look it up! Avatar f tn Parasites may be related to a zinc deficiency - http://jn.nutrition.org/content/130/5/1412S.
Avatar f tn I have the exactly same problem as you have. I have been trying to find an answer for a very long time. When i was on a no-grains, no milk diet, all my brain fog cleared out and it was like i was waking up. Then i started eating milk again so i wouldnt get a deficiancy and the fog came right back. Please try not eating histamine rich foods and see what happens. For me, the cracking starts in one hour after eating these foods and lasts for 3 days, but it can vary from person to person.
Avatar f tn PLEASE- BRACE YOURSELVES, I ALSO HAVE A CURE. I purchased iodine, zinc, silver, anti-fungal cream (after reading some posts)- BUT nothing fully helped heal this FUNGAL INFECTION …EXCEPT…. FREEZE-OFF WART REMOVER. I KNOW. It’s scary as hell. I was chicken sh* t to use the at-home box after it states in the directions NOT to use it on the face. HOWEVER, this is the same thing your derm would do for upwards of $2000.
