Avatar f tn Help- Does Anyone know how to treat a Child who can't control self and RUNS across the street? Do You know good websites for newly Diagnosed ADHD Families? Thanks for any Help!
1211960 tn?1272978102 I took a self test to deterime which kind of ADHD I had ( there are 6 different kinds.) The test results showed that I had Ring Of Fire ADHD. I was researching this specific type of ADHD and this is what I found: Type 6 -- The Ring of Fire. Cross between ADHD and bipolar disorder. Characterized by moodiness, aggressiveness, and anger. Anticonvulsants or newer antipsychotic medications tend to work better than stimulants. Now I am starting to doubt my diagnosis of bipolar.
707438 tn?1240963240 So my doctor said to me the other day that ADHD/ADD is only a childrens disorder and that adults cant have it. I for one highly disagree but was wondering about how others felt regarding Adult ADD/ADHD. All opinions are welcome but PLEASE be considerate about others thoughts and feelings.
9003081 tn?1401130098 I have terrible ADHD. Took Concerta for 10 years. For the last two years I have been without it. I am to begin studying for my RN in the fall. I am 20, with no insurance and without the Concerta I just know I will not make it through my classes. What are some alternatives???
Avatar n tn Kind of puzzles me since these are pretty common tendencies among adults with ADHD who have not had any help. Anyway to answer your question. ADHD/ADD is hereditary. So there is a possible connection. However the key is Knowledge. Knowing what you got and how to deal with it - changes everything. Your dad easily could have gone through school at a time when there was little help - or had parents that didn't believe in things like ADHD.
1779256 tn?1317550308 Does anyone know if this might be ADHD? Im realy frustrated. Andhate going to the doctor. he just keeps prescribing anti depressants. Wich I find weird because I am actualy happy, Just frustrated. I don'tknow what to do any more.
Avatar f tn I believe that you need to have what is called a TOVA test to see if you have ADHD and what tendency you have. I am an older adult who was recently diagnosed with ADHD (tendancy toward inattentive). Through speaking with my therapist, she picked up on things I was saying about my disorganization along with memory and concentration problems. I'm thinking that you need to discuss this with your LCSW and MD.
Avatar n tn We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. Does anyone know if there is a correlation, and if this is something that will stop?
1390055 tn?1365618655 I used to take ADHD medication to manage my condition beginning when I was about 13 years old. I am now 23. I continued this for about 5 or 6 years, and then gradually came down off of my medications. I had been put on a number of different medications at different times to see which medication worked best for me, and we finally settled on taking Concerta, and did this so for about 3 or 4 years.
Avatar m tn I have Bad ADHD and Bi-Polar and had unnacceptable side effects from Strattera, Paxil, Trileptal, Lamictal, Abilify, Lexapro, and Focalin. I have a low tolerance for drugs, but seem to be able to quit cold turkey with no issues from addicted drugs. Past suicidal ideation is an issue. Everytime I take dextramathoraphine for a cough, I seem to be a little happier, can focus on work better, and don't spill my guts to all my co-workers.
184674 tn?1360864093 You could make him run a mile and he would STILL be running through the house, sliding across the lenolium, crashing into the walls, jumping off the couch, and swinging from the rafters on his bunk bed. I found this list on quite a few websites about the symptoms of ADHD. I've put asterisks by the symptoms he has regularly.
703238 tn?1297101958 Abuse of these drugs, particularly when they are used with alcohol, is associated with significant health risks. You have enough issues to contend with having ADHD and bipolar disorder, so I would not recommend you add an addiction to the list of things that can negatively impact your life. I know your medication options for bipolar disorder are often unattractive. Taking lithium or anticonvulsants creates side effects that many people dislike.
899943 tn?1241924720 ADHD medications can sometimes cause problems for people with bipolar but not always and they can often be helpful for ADHD. Look up the medication websites as well. Then you can discuss that issue further with them.
Avatar f tn And stimulants make everyone wired, ADHD or not..otherwise all the ADHD people could sleep after taking it and they can't, hence they are wired..My husband has ADHD and he does need the medication, but he does get wired at times esp if he's taken a drug holiday from the stuff which he perodically has to do so the dose remains effective.
551343 tn?1506834118 I can certainly understand your concern. And I commend you for finding ways to make his stays with you enjoyable. Please try to keep finding ways to do that. It may well be the highpoint in his week. To answer your question, Yes - a child with ADHD can focus that long. In the book, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley (you might want to buy it), she basically says on p. 10-11 that a child with ADHD who enjoys what they are doing can do it for hours.
Avatar n tn I'm not too sure you would be okay with someone saying that about people who are ADHD....especially when people who are bipolar have some sort of ADD or ADHD...wouldn't that put you in the same boat as the rest of us? Secondly, if you dislike bipolar people so much, than why in the world would call this person a friend? That doesn't make sense. A friend is supposed to be someone you love because of who they are...not what disorder they have.
Avatar n tn When at home, he will run around silly, headbutting the chair and jumping and climbing everything. This, to me sounds just like ADHD, and believe me, i've researched this well - but i dont think he has this. I've recently discovered that hes REALLY naughty when he has an empty tummy - if i provide a snack for his snack-time at pre-school, which he isnt too keen on and he doesnt eat, he will behave really badly.....
Avatar f tn ), Focus Factor, etc. Searching vitamin websites, I have seen many reviews for products helpful to cognitive and ADD/ADHD issues. I'm looking for what can really, really help memory, attention, and thinking. Please share your experiences.
427258 tn?1266448842 The evaluator has said she's sure he has ADHD, but also shows some traits of a child with asperger's syndrome (sp). Since at this time, ADHD is the only 'definitive' diagnosis, I was wondering if some one could tell me some webistes, or books they have read to help them understand it all and how to help my son. Also, do you believe that 4 y/o may be too young to diagnose anything?
1569126 tn?1295540680 Several good suggestions in this post - http://www.medhelp.org/posts/ADD---ADHD/my-3-year-old-son/show/1439476 Also check out the child behavior forum. Just scroll through and look for posts about "out of control 4 year olds" . You will find plenty of posts and good ideas. If you really want to follow up on the ADHD, you will probably have better luck with a pediatric psychiatrist then a pediatrician. Finally, Its probably a good idea to start reading up on ADHD.
Avatar f tn I'd like to get more but I don't think a doctor will prescirbe them to me for weightloss wince i do not have ADHD. I have found some websites that sell them without a prescription but wary of being ripped off. How do I obtain a prescription or does anyone know of a website that will not rip me off?
Avatar f tn The trouble with the ADHD meds is that everyone is different. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to get it right. Good communication with your doctor is important. And if your doctor is a pediatrician - well, they don't always have the training to make the right choices. Anyway to answer your question. Personally, I don't think that homeopathy will help very much if they already have a good diet and are not allergic to any foods.
Avatar f tn I might be pregnant and I am taking antidepressents and a pill for my ADHD I dont find out if im pregnabt for another 3 Weeks but I am very curious could these medications affect my "baby" in any way during this kind of development?
Avatar n tn Ok, I've got ADHD, I don't know if I have it bad or not. I used to be hyper, silly, etc. which was slightly annoying but it didn't get in the way too much. But it's sort of transformed now, into me thinking things over too much, maybe it's me being so uptight about keeping a lid on the hyperactivity that I think too much. But it means i try to change my personality when i'm around friends so i don't annoy them and end up making things worse.
Avatar f tn The only reason that I can think of for him being on Focalin is that he has ADHD. And ALL of the things that you describe are very typical behaviors for someone who has ADHD. Has his doctor bothered to tell you anything about ADHD? and what it can do to a child. Has anyone bothered to explain to him why he hates school and doesn't feel smart? For that matter has anyone explained to him why his meds are important? By the way, why doesn't he like the pill?
Avatar n tn Yes, the two are different. The very first link I sent you explained the differences. The link was - http://www.help4adhd.org/en/about/what/WWK8 And yes most websites are geared more towards the ADHD kid. Probably because they are easier to recognize.
926067 tn?1245168545 I'm not sure what I am? I am going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis-almost a year now. I have been on several differnt depression meds & have had horrible withdrawal symptoms with some of the meds & such. I have also been diagnosed w/ADD. Currently I am taking Pristiq (50mg) and so far it is working now, after almost 4 weeks! i was almost ready to give up on it, too! I also take Adderall 20mg (2times a day) and feeling better.
Avatar f tn If you're into that, there is also a nasal spray version. You can google up Stan Kurtz to find a website on supposed treatment. I'm warning you, the person is not a doctor and he makes sure to put that disclaimer on his site. I'm also concerned about the "cure all" approach and claims on the site. (Claims to resolve everything from ADHD and autism to even getting rid of alcohol cravings.) If it does help, good, but to me it seems more faith based than actual science.
Avatar f tn I tried it with a psychologist for about six weeks. Waste of time for me because i have ADHD type symptoms with my Aspergers. There was shop fitting' in progress next door to his office. The slightest noise/distraction for me and I'm somewhere else. Did not want to disa ppoint him about the hyponotherapy, tried giving him some hints. Eventually my wife told me no more. Give it ago if you are not easily distracted and see if there is any benefit.
