Avatar n tn I disagree a bit here. Intelligence does matter simply because it allows a kid with ADHD to skate by in school. Kids who should be getting A's, get B's and C's, and everybody says thats cool. Or if they have really good intelligence, they can go through most of middle school (usually Algebra does them in), until it becomes too much. The problem is by now, psychological damage has been done.
Avatar f tn Both of these will require you to get an education in the field of ADHD and child behavior. This is not an easy thing to do, nor is your daughter's condition an easy thing to deal with. The first thing you need to do is get an assessment of your daughter's condition. Your public school can do this. I would imagine that her kindergarten teacher would be very willing to submit the paperwork.
Avatar n tn I have been thinking about asking my Psychiatrist if I could get tested for ADHD. I've tried to bring up the topic a couple of times, but for some reason, I just never end up doing it. I guess I feel uncomfortable, because the few times I have mentioned it, he explains how it is "overdiagnosed." He then goes on to describe hyperactive children, but from what I read, ADHD isn't limited to strictly hyperactivity. I'm 21 and in college.
Avatar f tn A good place to get pretty non biased information is from the WebMD. http://www.rxlist.com/attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder_adhd/article.htm A book by a UC Berkley honors student with severe ADHD about growing up with ADHD. might be helpful. The book is called - "ADHD and Me, What I learned from lighting fires at the dinner table," by Blake Taylor. Basically, "the Cal freshman tells hjow he made the ADHD work in his favor.
Avatar n tn What is it your grandson does that causes his Mom to ground and whip him, could you enlarge on his behavior for us to understand , you say he is sweet so perhaps his Mom is tough on him? what is it he steals and why, have you had a quiet chat wiith him to ask him, that could be a good idea , get his viewpoint and ask how he feels.
Avatar m tn Although no one who truly has ADHD "loses" it as they grow older many learn to control it and cope. ADHD does not grow worse with age however. Other mental conditions, such as bipolarity, does. The fear you have may be anxirty based. Have you seen a therapist or any sort of psychological doctor? If you truly think you have issues I can't tell you haw good it is to finally know that there is a name for what you are experiencing and you are not to blame.
Avatar f tn Also congratulate yourself that he is communicating with you. Kids with ADHD and good intelligence can make it to about 7th grade before they start having problems. Its usually algebra or pre algebra that starts to do them in. Also since doing homework is usually extremely important, and is very difficult for a ADHD kid to do (takes them 3 hours to do what normal kids can do in one hour) - the middle school years are tough. Those years, of course, are nothing compared to high school.
Avatar f tn I guess one thing I am saying is that (if you haven't already done so) you need to become an expert in ADHD. One source that can get you started is this article from the WebMD. It seems fairly unbaised. http://www.rxlist.com/attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder_adhd/article.htm It should be obvious to you that neither of you can continue to go on the way it is now. It is certainly time for a change listen to the professionals - hopefully, it will get only better.
Avatar f tn Not sure why you posted on the ADHD forum, but .... typically, it takes one to two weeks for the infection to resolve itself (webmd). If you are on multiple doses of zithromycin (with no more bad symptoms), I would expect things to be getting better soon. If that was a single dose of zithromycin, then yes, there is a very good chance it did not get into your system. I am guessing you took it on an empty stomach?
Avatar n tn I know you said he is not ADHD but this book covers behavior problems as well as attention. You need to be aware that most of the psychiatric medications are not approved for kids under 18. So make sure if you decide to go with medication after getting a diagnosis that you research the side effects and make sure whatever he takes is approved for kids under 18. But please try the diet changes and essential fatty acids first. They do work.
192055 tn?1263559137 You are feeling the frustration of years of what could quite possibly be ADHD. So one of the first things you want to do is to become more aware of what ADHD is and what it does. This site should help. It is from WebMD and seems fairly unbiased -- http://www.rxlist.com/attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder_adhd/article.htm I think the next thing is that you need some kind of a goal or focus.
1086730 tn?1258455578 I could sleep 8-12hours and still feel tired, and I know this isn't normal.
574170 tn?1277944903 Only your girlfriend's Doctor can determine whether she needs shots or some type of medication which comes in pill form. It is my understanding that with the Type 2 Diabetes, a person would be started on pill medication. If her blood levels are not controlled (go too high) her doctor MAY increase the pills. (That is what happened to me initially) There are patients in my Diabetes class who have gone from pills to Pills + Insulin, or Pills plus another medication.
4801019 tn?1359349012 Magnesium is also used for treating attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, leg cramps during pregnancy, diabetes, kidney stones, migraine headaches, weak bones (osteoporosis), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), altitude sickness, urinary incontinence, restless leg syndrome, asthma, hayfever, multiple sclerosis, and for preventing hearing loss." - WebMD - Magnesium.
Avatar n tn He has put on 10 lbs in the last year. We have some good discussion on the WebMD ADHD board and on the Natural Treatments board at conductdisorders.
10947 tn?1281407852 I doubt the medhelp hepatitis forums have had a deadspace where no messages were posted in more than 10hrs in YEARS. And look at how few posts there are on webmd and how few responses there are for each post. And they don’t even have a separate hepatitis social forum – I mean I can hear the crickets chirping from here. We recently had a post on the social forum alone that well exceeded 300 responses, and counting! The webmd hepatitis forum obviously doesn’t hold a candle to medhelp’s forum.
Avatar f tn http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43742023/ns/health-kids_and_parenting/NEW YORK — 7/13/11 Children exposed to secondhand smoke at home may be more likely than their peers to have learning and behavioral problems, according to a new study. Researchers found that of more than 55,000 U.S. children younger than 12 years, six percent lived with a smoker.
Avatar n tn I am going off my Effexor now because I started getting TOO much seratonin and something called 'seratonin syndrome' which can be deadly. (it's rare and I am taking Wellbutrin too) IF you are taken off your Effexor---insist your doctor weans you off slowly. The Effexor literature is NOT accurate about how LONG it takes to get off of it and it has MAJOR withdrawal issues. Go on the 'Depression' community forum and look for 'withdrawing from Effexor' discussion.
Avatar f tn He sounds just like my three year old who is being evaluated for Aspergers or ADHD with sensory issues. The best thing you can do right now is what you are doing. Getting him speech therapy and evaluations because early intervention is the key to getting them on the path to being successful and happy. You are doing the right things so no need to freak out or stress. Having Autism doesn't mean he is broken. He will still be the same boy you love.
Avatar m tn Good Morning, For the past six months or so I have noticed that at time, my ******* (not familiar with the correct term) itches and sometimes burns. I've briefly browsed forums and WebMd for information before and generally assumed it to be a hemorrhoid, but most topics about them say that they go away on their own, which I do not believe mine has done - assuming that is what it is.
674555 tn?1272603976 I get paranoid sometimes and need to research the heck out of something to set my racing mind at ease. An affect of my ADHD. I think you’re right about a short run of bigeminy; as it was likely a PVC every other beat instead of 2 in a row, a couplet. I might disagree with you on one part though, the PAC.
505907 tn?1258372940 I have BP and my paranoia is really kinda ruining things. Ive been looking up paranoia on like WebMD and stuff and it never really sounds like what I have, just parts of it. Ive been trying to figure out what is causing it and from this blog Im assuming it is the BP. I always double check and double check things like an ODC thing, but its not exactly the same, because its like Im worried Im not going to do it right.
Avatar n tn I brought my daughter to the Dr. she was cleared of any medical condition, so she is fine. However, she will not stop what she is doing to go pee. We and her teachers tell her to go every half hour and still she pees in her pants now up to 4 times a day. We have never been able to get night time down... Which is fine I know she is only 4 1/2 . We have tried ever kind of reward and punishment. ignoring it, talking about it until we are blue in the face and nothing works..
Avatar n tn I know it's very disturbing to consider this as an option, but according to some of the web-sites I've vistited (including WebMD) it is very common. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for This Thursday, but tonight I do plan on rying the tea tree oil to see what happens. If you are not getting answers from your doctors, I suggest that you get second and third opions. If you have not yet seen a doctor, then you absolutely should.
Avatar n tn I'm overweight but lost 40 lbs last year and I'm down 10 more in the last month. Oh also my dr. just started me on adderall a month ago for ADHD -- think this might have anything to do with it???
Avatar f tn I have convinced myself that I have everything from a brain tumor, to an anuerysm, to blood clots in my legs that will lead to a pulmonary embolism. Back in 2008 after my daughter was born, my legs were sore. So I went on WebMD and googled sore legs. (Worse thing you can ever do) well after reading all the sites I convinced myself I had blood clots in my legs due to pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Right before this clear fluid thing started, I began a very low dose of Focalin for adult adhd (it's an extended-release Ritalin (stimulant)), and I also take Zoloft 100 mg every day, but that's it for any type of medication. Since I've been on the Focalin - actually now it's been switched to low-dose Vyvanse (20 mg) - I've found I sweat more and my face has broken out intermittently, also leading me to wonder about hormones.
Avatar n tn I think it may be from some sort of blockage due to my neck being out of alignment. The PTC symtoms seem very similar, I looked it up on WebMd.
