Avatar f tn I also knew that my son was so hyper he was hard to get to sleep at night and refused to take naps at daycare so I looked up sleep disorders and sleep deficit and the symptoms it could cause. Sleep deficit can trigger bipolar disorder. (Sleep disorders can be caused by tonsils and adenoids) Specifically a lack of sleep will put a child in a manic state and he will stay there.
Avatar f tn 1. Destructiveness may be seen in both disorders but differs in origin. Children who are ADHD often break things carelessly while playing (“non-angry destructiveness”), whereas the major destructiveness of children who are bipolar is not a result of carelessness but tends to occur in anger. Children who are bipolar may exhibit severe temper tantrums during which they release manic quantities of physical and emotional energy, sometimes with violence and physical property destruction. 2.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD can anyone tell me if alcohol triggers angry outburst, impulsive behavior and ADHD symptoms? I use to blame it on the ADHD but I think she may be an alcoholic as well. She gets violent during her drinking bindges and has blackouts while she's awake, stays up for hours giving people around her plain ole hell.
Avatar m tn I would get him an appointment with a neuropsycologist who diagnosis autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and other similar disorders. Make sure that you or another adult very familiar with his actions/symptoms goes in with him to see the doctor. They can retest him and possibly test for other things as well. You might also have him undergo a sleep study. In many kids who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, having their tonsils and adenoids removed can greatly reduce the symptoms.
Avatar n tn ADD is no longer a diagnosis in the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. ADHD is the current nomenclature and has 3 subtypes, hyperactive-impulsive type, predominately inattentive type, and combined type.
Avatar f tn Premenopausal symptoms are caused due to hormone irregularities and they could resemble the symptoms described by you. The other causes for your symptoms could be metabolic disorders like diabetes and hypothyroidism, which can be detected by a simple blood test. But there is treatment for premenopausal symptoms in the form of Hormone Replacement therapy (HRT). You can discuss this with your primary care physician when you happen to meet him next time.

Avatar f tn I have heard of ADHD symptoms, I heard that it is much more easier to have fights if you have ADHD also ADHD kids act mostly, hyper, either violent(Not all), Overreacting over mainly little things. Sometimes they wonder in there own world. Having Aspergers can be different in many ways, Aspergers is when your child is having emotional problems maybe even getting embarrassed, shy, difficult education maybe even speech problems.

I feel that you should consult a sleep specialist and get polysomnograms(sleep study) done to find a confirmatory diagnosis. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Also, ensure to use CPAP regularly to fight the symptoms of sleep apnea. A sleep study called polysomnography may be needed for further evaluation. Consult your doctor for the same. In the meantime you could avoid taking alcohol and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn The duration and intensity of physical outbursts and temper tantrums differs in the two disorders. Children who are ADHD usually calm down in twenty to thirty minutes, whereas children who are bipolar may continue to feel and act angry for up to four hours. 3. The degree of “regression” during angry episodes is typically more severe for children who are bipolar.

Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.

Avatar f tn Depression and Anxiety are very common co-disorders of ADHD. And sometimes the bipolar diagnosis is not true due to the other symptoms. So its always worth taking a look at the difference between the two.
