Avatar f tn I'm not privy to any scientific studies on the subject you have raised although I am sure they exist somewhere. So all I can offer here at this point is my own experience: I've had ADHD (predominantly inattentive type) since childhood, and BP2 since adolescence. Looking back from age 68 now, I would say that the ADHD has pretty well maintained the same level.
926067 tn?1245164945 I'm not sure what I am? I am going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis-almost a year now. I have been on several differnt depression meds & have had horrible withdrawal symptoms with some of the meds & such. I have also been diagnosed w/ADD. Currently I am taking Pristiq (50mg) and so far it is working now, after almost 4 weeks! i was almost ready to give up on it, too! I also take Adderall 20mg (2times a day) and feeling better.
Avatar n tn ADHD is very rare and is one of the most over diagnosed of all "syndromes" I would look at a more relaxed daycare before I ever put a child on drugs. Look up the side effects now and maybe read the feingold cookbook for hyperactive kids.

Avatar f tn Ferritin is a test for adults? O_o "Serum ferritin is the most accurate test indicating iron status within normal range as well as iron deficiency and excess. In a young growing child, who has got a very delicate balance between iron stores, requirement and supply, it is very essential to diagnose iron deficiency at a stage before it results in hypochromic microcytic anaemia." - Iron Deficient Children and Significance of Serum Ferritin.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar f tn In fact, though, one of the criteria to diagnose ADHD is that the symptoms be present by the time a child is seven. That does not preclude diagnosing the condition at an age younger than seven, because sometimes the symptoms are clearly evident before age seven. Parents often ask when should they consider medication (assuming the diagnosis is accurate).
Avatar f tn is it ok to ask for a second opinion. my son is being studied for adhd. teacher has done 3 connors reports but i feel she doesnt know what she is lookin for . he now goes to a new school and we have been since informed that the adhd and blue bay syndrome are linked but some doctors dont like to admit it. please help.
Avatar f tn Bupropion is an antidepressant and usually not a great deal of help for ADHD symptoms (except maybe for the depression caused by those symptoms). Strattera or atomoxetine can be helpful for some people. It is not as strong and unlike most stimulants it must be taken everyday and usually takes 3 weeks or so to show results. It tends to be used by people who cannot handle the side effects of the normal stimulant meds.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 1/2 yr old daughter. She is the middle of 3 girls, and always seems to run off of a motor...never ever stopping. This week we have gone over her reading homework at least 2 times every evening, and she took her test today on it, and got a D- I don't understand, and I don't want to just put her on meds for the rest of her childhood. I was wondering what everyone thought about the possibility of a food allergy?
Avatar f tn Hey there! So, I'm supposed to get my period six days from now and when I stepped on the scale today, I realized I gained about 2 pounds I think? (I hate our scale! It's in kilograms, not pounds!) So usually, I'm 72.1 or 72.3 but when I stepped on the scale, I was 73.4! Also, my waist got bigger by I don't really know how much. So my question is, IS THIS NORMAL???? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Another thought: Prior to the evaluation, see if you can complete a standardized rating scale that can help to pinpoint the presence of a condition such as Asperger's. A well regarded scale of this sort is the GILLIAM ASPERGER'S DISORDER SCALE. The psychologist can score it and interpret it and then discuss it with you.
Avatar f tn I suspect I have adhd. I'm uninsured and can't afford to go get an evaluation? any suggestions. i'm sick of this interfering with my life.
Avatar f tn When I try to force myself I get minor seizure like symptoms and my stress level goes way up above average even though I meditate on a regular basis I get small scale sicknesses due to my immunity going down also it seems to be getting worse as time progresses. I have lost motivation for leisure activities as well which especially gets me worried. I went to several doctors including therapists and it has them all stumped.
Avatar n tn 125mcg to 150mcg is a fairly large jump, and should be enough to bring your hormones back into line. It should take about six weeks. With Unithroid, there is no dose between 125mcg and 150mcg, so if you find 150mcg is too much, you may have to get creative. For example, a scrip for 50mcg and a scrip for 88mcg taken together would give you 138mcg per day. Just a thought if the 150mcg turns out to be a little much. You need to get your TSH down to between 1.0 and 2.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar n tn s down another 6lbs. I know there is a difference between the scale at the hospital and my scale, but it isn't likely 6 lbs. The sleeping issue we are working on and are quite hopeful. The weight loss is quite frightening. My son is not overweight at all (average). We have tried Adderall, Concerta, Straterra, and now Dexadrine. We have finally found a medication that allows my boy to have success in school, but the negative side effects are outweighing the postive response to the meds.
Avatar f tn My children (and husband) have a hard time realizing how loudly they're speaking. My son is almost guaranteed to use the exact opposite volume as to what is required (loud inside school and quiet out on a noisy playground). My son is still a bit young for a diagnosis, but the others have ADHD. I don't know how much that is a factor - especially since all of my in-laws are unnecessarily loud at all times, and they do not have ADHD. My kids and I all repeat answers back to ourselves.
Avatar n tn Hawthorn, Conners, and abbreviated ADHD scale. With this they were able to diagnose ADHD. I had asked for a more thorough test like WISC III however, since he didn't show a learning disability... his psychiatrist had told me this would be out of pocket. He has been on meds for a little over a month and he has said he can complete the projects, reading and math with much more focus and ease (he's in all advance classes). I'm not suggesting that you get meds.
Avatar f tn org/en/treatment/scales) Finally he may not (as I have said) have ADHD or ADD, but it would be nice to know. Here is info on symptoms of ADHD. See what you think. And remember he could also have ADD which is ADHD, but without the hyperactivity. The link is - http://www.help4adhd.
Avatar f tn I hate to tell you this, but it sure sounds like pregnancy to me.
Avatar m tn By the way, I have seen several studies that show that sleep apnea can produce ADHD like symptoms. In fact, there have been several posters on here that have had sleep apnea, been treated and their daytime behaviors definitely changed. Has anybody ever commented about you snoring or breathing loud at night? "Regardless of type, an individual with sleep apnea is rarely aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening.
662361 tn?1225334507 Ok, I suppose I wasn't clear enough when I said "hour by hour" - I meant morning, afternoon and night, just as you'd stated. :) HAHA! I wouldn't want to think of my symptoms that often! With that said, I think I have a form that will work. I borrowed some of the information from another form that an old friend had made years ago for her Fibro/Endo symptoms.
