Avatar n tn ADHD is very rare and is one of the most over diagnosed of all "syndromes" I would look at a more relaxed daycare before I ever put a child on drugs. Look up the side effects now and maybe read the feingold cookbook for hyperactive kids.
Avatar f tn Ferritin is a test for adults? O_o "Serum ferritin is the most accurate test indicating iron status within normal range as well as iron deficiency and excess. In a young growing child, who has got a very delicate balance between iron stores, requirement and supply, it is very essential to diagnose iron deficiency at a stage before it results in hypochromic microcytic anaemia." - Iron Deficient Children and Significance of Serum Ferritin.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 1/2 yr old daughter. She is the middle of 3 girls, and always seems to run off of a motor...never ever stopping. This week we have gone over her reading homework at least 2 times every evening, and she took her test today on it, and got a D- I don't understand, and I don't want to just put her on meds for the rest of her childhood. I was wondering what everyone thought about the possibility of a food allergy?
Avatar n tn Prior to the evaluation, see if you can complete a standardized rating scale that can help to pinpoint the presence of a condition such as Asperger's. A well regarded scale of this sort is the GILLIAM ASPERGER'S DISORDER SCALE. The psychologist can score it and interpret it and then discuss it with you.
Avatar f tn My son just started Kindergarten the end of August. His behavior problems are seriously coming to light now that he is in a more structured learning environment. He has been in childcare/preschool - but the struction & learning environment to this point has been relatively flexible. I am at my wits end, I have no idea what to do anymore.

Avatar f tn I'm not privy to any scientific studies on the subject you have raised although I am sure they exist somewhere. So all I can offer here at this point is my own experience: I've had ADHD (predominantly inattentive type) since childhood, and BP2 since adolescence. Looking back from age 68 now, I would say that the ADHD has pretty well maintained the same level.
Avatar f tn Her favorite rating is PG-13 and T.V.-14. Her dream is to one day move to Hollywood and be in a PG-13 movie. Of course, when she turns eighteen. I wonder if this is a form of OCD also? It doesn't sound like it to me, but couldn't it be part of the anxiety? We are also this month going to try to get her put on Strattera for problems with concentration and other problems at school. I also read it is good for anxiety. Has anyone had any problems with this drug?
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar f tn Bupropion is an antidepressant and usually not a great deal of help for ADHD symptoms (except maybe for the depression caused by those symptoms). Strattera or atomoxetine can be helpful for some people. It is not as strong and unlike most stimulants it must be taken everyday and usually takes 3 weeks or so to show results. It tends to be used by people who cannot handle the side effects of the normal stimulant meds.
Avatar f tn is it ok to ask for a second opinion. my son is being studied for adhd. teacher has done 3 connors reports but i feel she doesnt know what she is lookin for . he now goes to a new school and we have been since informed that the adhd and blue bay syndrome are linked but some doctors dont like to admit it. please help.
926067 tn?1245164945 I'm not sure what I am? I am going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis-almost a year now. I have been on several differnt depression meds & have had horrible withdrawal symptoms with some of the meds & such. I have also been diagnosed w/ADD. Currently I am taking Pristiq (50mg) and so far it is working now, after almost 4 weeks! i was almost ready to give up on it, too! I also take Adderall 20mg (2times a day) and feeling better.
Avatar f tn In fact, though, one of the criteria to diagnose ADHD is that the symptoms be present by the time a child is seven. That does not preclude diagnosing the condition at an age younger than seven, because sometimes the symptoms are clearly evident before age seven. Parents often ask when should they consider medication (assuming the diagnosis is accurate).
Avatar f tn But when inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior are the norm for a child, it may be a sign of ADHD. ADHD can lead to problems at home and at school, with family, teachers, and peers, so it’s important to identify the symptoms and get help.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar f tn Depression and Anxiety are very common co-disorders of ADHD. And sometimes the bipolar diagnosis is not true due to the other symptoms. So its always worth taking a look at the difference between the two. Here are a couple of links for that. http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/home/article/adhd-or-bipolar-disorder-age-specific-manic-symptoms-are-key/2e1d5ec4615c5b9da40d435fca5f560c.html http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2511.
Avatar n tn I had a friend who recently tried an elimination diet and slowly added foods back that she eats regularly, she found out that she was allergic to wheat, rhy, some flour products, sweeteners, etc. that were causing the ADHD symptoms... She has since started eating whole foods and good fats and her symptoms have vastly improved... It could be something as little as the dyes in foods, or sweeteners, etc...
Avatar f tn "Treatment starts with controlling adhd symptoms." When a childs adhd symptoms "are reduced there usually is an improvement in ODD symptoms. Stimulant medications have been shown to decrease adhd symptoms, as well as those of ODD, by up to 50%." In my opinion, the doctors have been not dealing with the cause of her ODD. Nothing you have stated is really recommended to treat adhd. My recommendation for a good adhd medication starts with a good doctor.

Avatar f tn For now, medications should control the symptoms and psychosocial support can tame the manifestations of adhd as well. Regards and God bless...

Avatar n tn Is he on any medications for ADHD? Also, could you further describe what "putting in front of eyes tracking the movement" means?
Avatar f tn Have you tried Strattera for the ADHD because, unfortunately, most other medications that help the symptoms of ADHD are stimulants and will exaserbate the symptoms of BP.Good luck with your quest. I'm still trying to get the balance right myself.
