Avatar m tn We have been discussing the possibility of ADHD for about 2 years and finally made the decision to ask the doctor, the doctor gave us the conners parent rating scale but upon looking it over, I noticed that their are several questions that do not apply to my step son, for example: he does not have a hard time making friends, he is a good student- 1st grade, math, spelling he gets good grades, I guess im just wondering if he really could be ADHD if he gets good grades.

Avatar n tn I have a 6 1/2 yr old daughter. She is the middle of 3 girls, and always seems to run off of a motor...never ever stopping. This week we have gone over her reading homework at least 2 times every evening, and she took her test today on it, and got a D- I don't understand, and I don't want to just put her on meds for the rest of her childhood. I was wondering what everyone thought about the possibility of a food allergy?
Avatar n tn s rating scale to see if he was ADHD and the score was not quite high enough for him to be diagnosed as having ADHD. They say that he needs some behavior counseling, so that is what I am going to try and get for him, but was wondering if there were any other ideas from some other parents. Thank you for any advice at this time.

Symptoms of ADHD impact important adult tasks such as remembering to pay the mortgage, paying attention while driving, or managing your children’s schedules.

A well regarded scale of this sort is the GILLIAM ASPERGER'S DISORDER SCALE. The psychologist can score it and interpret it and then discuss it with you.

Avatar f tn My son is identifiied as having a learning disability and has received special education for several years. Recently though the school psychologist suggested that his attention issues and lack of focus could be "organic" in nature and should be ruled out. 793266 tn?1275479663 Today I started adding fish oil and a B-complex vitamin for the adhd symptoms, and vitamin D for thyroid/mood. I am taking fish oil at dinner, B at all meals, and D at one meal. I am hoping these will increase energy, memory, and decrease AdHd symptoms and mood swings.
Avatar n tn I know of oral motor problems with sensory integration disorder which is also a nervous system disorder that looks like ADD/ADHD in behavior but is a little different. Sensory can be by itself and it can also be a secondary problem to ADD/ADHD. Oral motor issues make speaking tough as it takes lots of coordination to make those mouth muscles work. Also, chewing can be tough especially on items like meat. It can be as extreme as a child drooling.

Avatar f tn My son just started Kindergarten the end of August. His behavior problems are seriously coming to light now that he is in a more structured learning environment. He has been in childcare/preschool - but the struction & learning environment to this point has been relatively flexible. I am at my wits end, I have no idea what to do anymore.
Avatar f tn I'm not privy to any scientific studies on the subject you have raised although I am sure they exist somewhere. So all I can offer here at this point is my own experience: I've had ADHD (predominantly inattentive type) since childhood, and BP2 since adolescence. Looking back from age 68 now, I would say that the ADHD has pretty well maintained the same level.
