Avatar f tn My son has been Diagnosed with ADHD and OCD. He has been on ADHD medication since he was 4 and now newly diagnosed with OCD. They think the Vyvanse is making the OCD sympotms worse. I can see this since we placed him on Zoloft for the OCD things have improved somewhat. I feel so bad for him becuase our personalities are so different. I am very melow and laid back but also Type A. He is constantly getting into trouble over little things at school almost daily.
Avatar n tn ( i think that is what u call it) rocking while watching tv,he jumps a lot, rubs his hands up and down his leg making a humming noise, claps at times and now the new one i notice he has on OCCASION done that hand flap thing (when he's really excited or mad) I've done so much googling and to me it sounds like ADHD,autism and sensory processing disorder are similiar in a lot of ways.
Avatar n tn My doctor said it can assist in raising small amounts of dopamine in the brain, which people with ADHD lack. So it wont cure ADHD or ne thin but it cant hurt not taking it, i mean if it can assist in controlling the symptoms, why not! The only issue here would be the fact the tablets r quite huge!
Avatar f tn Personally, I know of at least two kids I had in school who found that drama or music changed their lives because it gave them a place to be successful in. Her other symptoms do fit those of someone who has ADHD, but other things could also be the reason. If her grades still continued to suffer in subjects like math or science (even though she tried really hard, but never got above a C) that would be a better indication.
Avatar m tn I guess the main reason I bring this up is that even though all the symptoms do point to ADHD, there are some things like Sensory Processing Disorder that have very similar symptoms and I would want somebody with experience to possibly rule other factors out. One of the things that I do find unusual is the length of time he crys. As an elementary school principal, we had kids that did cry in kindergarten. They usually stopped after a period of time. His crying is unusual.
Avatar f tn There was a mother speaking about her three children with Lyme who exhibited symptoms of ADD, ADHD and OCD. The good news is once they got treated for Lyme, those symptoms diminished. Perhaps you should get your children tested also. I understand your concern as I am a mother of a 4 month-old who I am afraid will come down with symptoms some day. So far he is healthy, but there is always a fear that I passed this to him during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn My 15-yr-old has been dx with ADHD, impulsive type since eight years. Can be very controlling, extremely impulsive, with sheer outbursts of anger. Had to be hospitalized when 12 for destroying the house. Calmed down a bit since. We took him off Ritalin, and strangely outbursts lessened in intensity. Neuro said his brain is prone to "short circuit" after EEG scan. I'm not exactly sure of how to say this. Refuses to make friends. Has no friends at school.

Avatar f tn I'm trying to see if his symptoms fit any autoimmune disorder. He is 13 now. Background: Age 5 doctor said he has psoriasis because of peely, scabby, oozy skin on his legs and arms that went away after 2 years. Age 7 developed vittiligo (spots without pigment) on his belly and sides that grows bigger as he grows. Age 9 sudden change at school after always doing well. He couldn't focus and had no concentration and still is that way.
1734603 tn?1310425995 Bowel and bladder symptoms include frequency of micturition, urine leakage, eye symptoms like double vision uncontrollable rapid eye movements, facial pain, painful muscle spasms, tingling, burning in arms or legs, depression, dizziness, hearing loss, fatigue etc. The treatment is essentially limited to symptomatic therapy so the course of action would not change much whether MS has been diagnosed or not.

1734603 tn?1310425995 For over 6 months, I've experienced some bizarre symptoms which are probably related. There is no supposed cause, even after I've had a CT scan, an EEG and visits with two neurologists. They've found nothing wrong (ie No brain tumor, no meningitis, no poison, no neurological abnormalities). I know for a fact that all these things are real and have happened to me. Family and friends have seen my symptoms in action. I just need to know what I'm dealing with and how to make it better.
1734603 tn?1310425995 I have previously posted this in Undiagnosed Symptoms and Neurological Disorders. Dr. Sharma (as well as most other posters on those discussions) have suggested that I post again in autoimmune disorders and that I get tested for Multiple Sclerosis. For over 6 months, I've experienced some bizarre symptoms which are probably related. There is no supposed cause, even after I've had a CT scan, an EEG and visits with two neurologists.

1393879 tn?1288729049 There is absolutely no common ground of agreement over what parts of the brain would give rise to so many different behavioural symptoms. ADHD is not a disease nor is it a genetic (de)fault in some, and not others. The only means for the past several decades of "diagnosing" ADHD has been socially contigent. However, given the role of the doctor to conservative assume the child or adult to be "suffering" his condition, is enough, to "treat" for those symptoms.
1648124 tn?1301364223 His doctor thinks it is either Aspergers or PDD. He goes in for a autism eval pretty soon. After reading all the signs/symptoms of both PDD and Aspergers I have no doubt in my mind that he has one of those. I had been reading more on the "Classic" autism as some sites reffered it. He meets the descrption to a "T" for Aspergers or PDD. So, I am very interested to see what the professionals say.
Avatar n tn My husband and I play with him and give him attention. He is very hyper and loud 24/7. Does this sound like ADHD? I put him in pre-school a year ago for a month and took him out cause he didnt say a word to anyone all day. He has a very poor appetite or I should say extremely picky, hardly eats. Im not sure if that has any effect. I took him to a phycologist a while back for a few visits and he gets nothing out of my son...wont talk.
Avatar f tn org/forums/Child-Behavior/show/64 Now since you have posted to an ADHD forum, if you would like any information on what the symptoms are for ADHD (or Sensory Processing Disorder which also can make kids very active), please let me know. Best wishes.
521840 tn?1348844371 When deciding whether or not to test, it is important to understand that troubling symptoms can happen for a lot of different reasons. Symptoms like irritability can indicate conditions such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, sensory integration disorder, or even a medical problem like a sleep or elimination disorder. Children are complex beings who, unfortunately, do not often know how to tell us what is wrong.
973741 tn?1342346373 Thanks for your input, Sandman. You also answered me 5 years ago, and I read up on some of the things you recommended at the time. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD (he scored 89% on that test) and, because they couldn't really pinpoint his situation, said he's on the autism spectrum with a very high IQ I might add. So yes, he's seen psychiatrists, psychologists, went to classes for social skills in school, went to OT for his low tone and has an IEP. His parents went to a class, also.
Avatar f tn i keep hearing that milk allergies can cause adhd symptoms, i honestly dont know if its true or not, but it might be something to look into.
Avatar f tn I dont believe the alarming frequency of this diagnosis and the seemingly minor 'symptoms' that are getting some children labelled and drugged.
Avatar n tn Her father has been diagnosed with both ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. I am aware that childrent as young as 4 can be diagnosed with ADHD but what about Bipolar Disorder? There was an incident in December where my daughter witnessed a Domestic Dispute between her father and I. At the time I didnt feel therapy was a need but cant help but wonder if this maybe the reason for her temper and if she is in need of some therapy now. If maybe this incident has sparked something in her.
Avatar f tn I'm curious if you have diagnosed with adhd? When used properly, adhd medications are not suppose to give you this burst of energy to clean or anything like that. When that happens, it is being used as speed. Then you are taking sleep aides and Xanax to come back down? Anyway, your pupils are dialated because it is an amphetamine and your body is reacting to it. You'll have to judge whether that is worth it. Every medication has an up side and a down side.
Avatar n tn So 4 years ago I took a bottle of ADHD medication Adderall, and afterwards was extremely affected for about a year. I won't explain all the symptoms, but I went to a neurologist and he ordered an MRI and then said I was fine. My problem is, he gave me a disc with pictures of the MRI on it, and here's one: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j208/luvluvluvluvluv/mybrain3.jpg Now, it appears there is a chunk of my brain missing. Could I have had a stroke or something similar?
Avatar f tn I am having similar problems with my 10 year old. She gets very upset if you get on to her. If you ask her why she has done something she breaks into tears apologizing. She doesn't however give explanations. The next time she says because she wants or doesn't want to. She will then cop with "I hate it here!" She has many other strange behaviors such as constantlly organizing different types of playing cards. This goes on all day long.
Avatar f tn I too had a long, long list of symptoms going back 25 years. The symptoms were pretty much blown off. I even got some books from amazon and was absolutely convinced that my symptoms were consistent with MS, but no one has really listened so far. To add insult to injury, I have been on meds for ADHD for the past 17 years when my son and I were both diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. Any help or advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Sorry, but I have worked with children for many years as well, and I dont agree with sandman. FYI-one of the classic symptoms of adhd is a child having no respect for authority. Its also a classic symptom of sin, but no doubt you dont believe in sin and consequences. I will continue to warn parents, and you can continue to do what you will. THis discussion has gone as far as it can go.
292592 tn?1234143024 Finally at 5 we found a doctor that cares and said she thinks she most likely has Bi-polar disorder, and maybe ADHD. They put her on respidol, what a miracle, at first, also they put her on strattara. But now 5 months later it all has gotten just as bad again. She is perfect at school. She has been there for 2 months and she has a male teacher, I wonder if she is scared to do anything wrong! She has periods of staying up all night.
