521840 tn?1348840771 These same childhood symptoms take on different forms in adults with ADHD. For example, most adults with ADHD are not floridly hyperactive. Instead, an adult is more likely to report ‘inner restlessness’ or problems with impulsivity. Symptoms of ADHD impact important adult tasks such as remembering to pay the mortgage, paying attention while driving, or managing your children’s schedules.

Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.

Avatar n tn I am teacher's mother. 61 and ADHD. I benefit from medication but can't afford it now. She is also ADHD. There is a theory that this situation has a connection with L-dopa. My mother had Parkinson's, which is an L-dopa situation. I know others who had Parkinson's parents and ADHD children. More than a coincidence, I think. So, very much a biological situation. And genetic.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with a mild case of ADD back in April. I am guessing he also had it as a child. Our marriage counselor had pointed it out to us and recommend he start treatment for it. Shortly after he left for some a military training that he was unable to finish, he was kicked out. The instructor did not think he was taking it seriously. When he got back he diced to get medicated. I am not sure of all the meds he has tried but he started with Adderall.
1462810 tn?1327360449 I believe, based only on what I've read, my own symptoms, test results, and failed treatments, that both ADD/ADHD and fibromyalgia are just symptom cascades of adrenal exhaustion... And that treating the symptoms without addressing the changes required to treat the cause is criminal.
Avatar m tn it's very unlikely that anyone would suddenly become ADHD in adulthood. the brain is shaped by genetics as well as life experiences from the minute you're born, so if a person is 18 years and has always been organized, thorough, efficient and able to concentrate well on any given task, by that time their brain is pretty much hard-wired to work in a way consistent with those traits.
494594 tn?1212967928 I understand that there is a lot of media attention (excuse the pun) on ADD, ADHD, impulsivity, inattention. However, symptoms of inattention or restlessness are common in many learning and emotional problems such as learning disabilities, anxiety, moodiness, and motivational issues. So if I go to the car mechanic and ask him or her to check only my battery because of the screeching noise, I would be remiss in not also having the whole car looked at.
Avatar f tn While ADHD is a possibility, it would not explain all the behavior you describe. A thorough mental health evaluation would benefit him; part of the evaluation could focus on ADHD.
