Avatar f tn Modafinil Is newly being tried in some cases of Adhd and a drug that is being tested for bipolar.I take modafinil, which is primarily used for narcolepsy. Avatar f tn My sil has a daughter from a previous marriage and she has a very bad case of adhd...no1 can control or discipline her...
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with a mild case of ADD back in April. I am guessing he also had it as a child. Our marriage counselor had pointed it out to us and recommend he start treatment for it. Shortly after he left for some a military training that he was unable to finish, he was kicked out. The instructor did not think he was taking it seriously. When he got back he diced to get medicated. I am not sure of all the meds he has tried but he started with Adderall.
Avatar n tn I have a grandson that was my sons fiancés son from a previous marriage. since the day I met him this thing I have noticed is that he is like one of the gyroscope balls (I think that is what they are called) as soon as he gets wound up at all he just goes into full mode. I thought he was starting kindergarten now but found out on the 4th that no he was in a summer program. she said that he had an appointment with his counselor at mental health. (no meds).
Avatar f tn While ADHD is a possibility, it would not explain all the behavior you describe. A thorough mental health evaluation would benefit him; part of the evaluation could focus on ADHD.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar f tn Hi, im a 24 yrs old mom of 3 beautiful kids. I love being a mom. Best feeling in the world. Just found out that im pregnant wit a 4th child. I know i can't handle 4 kids. It's way to much. I don't wanna kill the baby. Im keeping it but im thinking about adoption. My husband don't wanna do adoption but its too much for us rite now. My kids r still young too. My baby is only 2 yrs old & she is a mommy's girl. My 5 yrs old son has ADHD.
Avatar n tn All four of my children have been diagnosed as ADHD but their personalities are all over the place. Lying is not necessarily an ADHD attribute. If she's "flipping out" I would suggest that she needs to have more tests taken on her to see if it's something else. I commend you for being such a caring and thoughtful sibling. Someday maybe she'll see how lucky she was.
Avatar n tn His father and I are happily married for 7 years. I have a 16 year old son from a previous marriage, and he and his brother get along very well. Our family and friends rarely have problems with our 5 year old. The problems only arise at school. The school claims they have problems with disciplining him, as he doesnt really care about recess being taken away or being asked to go to a quiet area.

Avatar m tn By the way, I have seen several studies that show that sleep apnea can produce ADHD like symptoms. In fact, there have been several posters on here that have had sleep apnea, been treated and their daytime behaviors definitely changed. Avatar f tn In short, adhd symptoms. There was a reason why you started Vyvanse, and as you are now stopping it...those reasons are coming back. If you have not done so....you need to read up on Ankylosis Sponilytis. It is a condition that will slowly get worse. And I am not sure that a muscle relaxer is recommended treatment. See - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ankylosing-spondylitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354813 . And a muscle relaxer is certainly only short term treatment.
Avatar f tn But when inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior are the norm for a child, it may be a sign of ADHD. ADHD can lead to problems at home and at school, with family, teachers, and peers, so it’s important to identify the symptoms and get help.
Avatar f tn Depression and Anxiety are very common co-disorders of ADHD. And sometimes the bipolar diagnosis is not true due to the other symptoms. So its always worth taking a look at the difference between the two. Here are a couple of links for that. http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/home/article/adhd-or-bipolar-disorder-age-specific-manic-symptoms-are-key/2e1d5ec4615c5b9da40d435fca5f560c.html http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2511.
Avatar f tn "Treatment starts with controlling adhd symptoms." When a childs adhd symptoms "are reduced there usually is an improvement in ODD symptoms. Stimulant medications have been shown to decrease adhd symptoms, as well as those of ODD, by up to 50%." In my opinion, the doctors have been not dealing with the cause of her ODD. Nothing you have stated is really recommended to treat adhd. My recommendation for a good adhd medication starts with a good doctor.

Avatar f tn It can have symptoms very similar to ADHD but is treated very differently. A great site I have found for information on this is here - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processing-disorder-checklist.html So those are the quick thoughts. I would definitely look at the SIDS site because you do treat that differently from ADHD. and he could have both. What is distressing to me is that he could have ADHD and the only help the doctors gave you is to prescribe meds?
Avatar f tn Have you tried Strattera for the ADHD because, unfortunately, most other medications that help the symptoms of ADHD are stimulants and will exaserbate the symptoms of BP.Good luck with your quest. I'm still trying to get the balance right myself.
