Avatar m tn These days there actually are neurological tests that support ADHD diagnoses. Symptoms and careful, loving team work, being an advocate for yourself or your child are what is most important. Nothing can be accomplished by hurting eachother. Of course there are people who are misdiagnosed with adhd when they should not be.

For the rest of my anxiety I started reading self-help books and started to think positive thoughts...or at least learned how to control my thinking about negative things. There is no doubt that ADD/ADHD contributes to anxiety/depression. When you start messing up at work, or in your personal affairs because you can't focus...

Avatar f tn A child who is gifted and a child who has ADHD have many of the same symptoms...they just need to be physically tired out with sports and stimulation. Also food dyes have been linked to hyperactivity and some kids cannot tolerate food dyes so well. It sounds like his Mom is just not coping well being on her own and needs someone to step in to help.....The hearing voices part might be due to being over medicated and somebody please needs to step in for the sake of that poor child!.
Avatar m tn Richard Saul March 14, 2014 Over the course of my career, I have found more than 20 conditions that can lead to symptoms of ADHD, each of which requires its own approach to treatment. Raising a generation of children—and now adults—who can't live without stimulants is no solution.
184674 tn?1360864093 I found this list on quite a few websites about the symptoms of ADHD. I've put asterisks by the symptoms he has regularly.
899943 tn?1241924720 Hello, I'm new here. Hopefully you all can be a little bit more detailed than my psychiatrist. Took some 200 question exam and some concentration test on the PC, and he asked me some background questions of course. But one thing that got me was that he didn't really ask much about what goes on in my head. I am well aware of whats going on in my brain (whether it be after the fact or during).
Avatar f tn Modafinil Is newly being tried in some cases of Adhd and a drug that is being tested for bipolar.I take modafinil, which is primarily used for narcolepsy. To help with not only my Adhd symptoms ( which has really helped me especially with my concentration) and has helped with the depressive symptoms I get with my rapid cycling bipolar too.
Avatar m tn Hi I just wanted to say that I have ADHD and am now 36. from my personal experience ADHD can make you feel very isolated and out of sync with people. As a child every day I felt that I was trying and trying and always messed up. In the end I was just so frustrated (no ones fault i know). In the end I just exploded and became a rebel. I am also on ritalin. I have found that if you don't have a break it kind of stops working. Does your son have breaks?
329950 tn?1194801117 Yes you can have bipolar and ADHD however many ADHD symptoms are also bipolar symptoms and the diagnosis of ADHD is often a step to a real diagnosis of BP. In all things do not accept the diagnosis without proper testing and avoid Ritalin which is bad for Bipolars in so many ways for one thing its a stimulant and for another its a dangerous drug in its own right with addictive qualities and some nasty side effects.

662361 tn?1225338107 I've been using the pain management tracker on here but have found that even tho it's handy to use (online and is able to be emailed), it isn't always convenient to be at the computer and doesn't allow the accuracy (no side view of the body) and lacks some of the information I'd like to convey to my doctor when pinpointing specific information.
Avatar f tn (The first time was when I was about 8 - along with ADHD and tendencies toward depression) The diagnosis was actually rather quick, but my mother was with me and I felt I couldn't be 100% with the doctor at the time. She gave me a prescription for 10mg Fluoxetine. There have been many family problems going on for years now, as well as financial problems. Just major instability in general. My mother is (and as far as I know, always has been) majorly depressed, but is not getting treatment.
Avatar f tn Hi everybody... For four months I've been dealing with the craziest things/ symptoms. If you have time, please check out my post under Mood Disorders called "New to this-Anxiety-Head Symptoms". I have a ton of symptoms that started with just head pressure. Now, what I'm really concerned about is that when I go to bed, and I'm drifting to sleep (I think), I feel a hard pulse-like feeling in the back of my head, and then it feels like my head and neck start shaking or vibrating...

Avatar n tn You were not specific on the symptoms you experience, but my guess is that when you exercise you don't drink water, or you sweat to excess. This will dehydrate you and you will lose salt and other minerals. You can experience shaking of the hands, visual disturbances, headaches, stomach aches, stitches in the sides, exhaustion, low grade temps and other unpleasant symptoms. If this is the case, try drinking a fluid that has minerals in it like Cytomax.
Avatar n tn I'm having withdrawal symptoms I didn't expect. Light headedness, the runs, blood pressure going up, and general fatigue. Lots of fatigue. And some irritability. I am hoping that these symptoms begin to decrease soon. Well, they have gotten better than it was in the first 2 days. I am still wondering how long I can expect to have these side effects of withdrawal?
Avatar f tn During prodromal symptoms our D tried to hide any symptoms and suffered silently but her negative symptoms were more prominent ( no one could think at that time that it was negative symptoms). She looked depressed, became withdrawn, spending a lot of time in bed, tired, lethargic. From being an academic student gradually struggled in the Uni. Psychiatrist could not diagnose for a long time until the onset of psychosis.
Avatar f tn I posted this originally in the Neurology Forum, but decided maybe I should post i here as well, so here goes... My son is 10 years old, has been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, ADHD and OCD. He has a lot of other symptoms going on over the past 2 years though that don't quite fit into any of the above conditions it seems.
Avatar n tn I can be tired after 12 hours sleep! Can I be suffering symptoms from my thallassemia. Does any one else feel the same way that I do? This is a little bit hard for me, but I don't want to complain.
1752816 tn?1312183899 bipolar II, adhd, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder. Some days I don't want to do anything just because of all the pain. My family and I agree that bipolar II is not likely...I am not depressed. The mania and the ADHD seem so similar. I am currently on amphetamine salts for ADHD, Lithium for Bipolar, and Trazadone for sleep and anxiety. I do not want to be on all of this.
Avatar n tn I have also started to keep a journal of his tics, when they're worst and when they're not so bad. I also took a video and cut clips to isolate the different tics. Avatar f tn • Patients with POTS scored significantly higher on inattention and ADHD subscales than control subjects. These symptoms were not present during childhood. Conclusions: Patients with POTS do not have an increased lifetime prevalence of psychiatric disorders. Although they may seem anxious, they do not have excess cognitive anxiety. They do experience significant inattention, which may be an important source of disability. Source: Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.
Avatar m tn Patients and their families, however, should be evaluated fully and use other treatment methods in conjunction with medication. Because the symptoms of tic disorders overlap those of OCD and ADHD, it is essential to determine which symptoms are causing the greatest concern and impairment, and treat the patient according to the single diagnostic category that best fits him or her, whether it is a tic disorder, OCD, or ADHD.
Avatar n tn I do not believe that there are any medications for PDD-Nos or Autism, unless the person with PDD-Nos or Autism also has ADHD. About 40% of children with ADHD outgrow their ADHD symptoms around puberty. I believe that most people with PDD do not outgrow their diagnosis. ADHD children are also socially delayed, speech delayed and fine/gross motor delayed by 1 to 2 years versus their peers with same age.
