Avatar f tn I did find this one article which might help you. It reviews various types of meds used for ADHD - https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:kH4CuWvgmbQJ:www.ncgiadd.org/pdf/Medications.
Avatar f tn In conclusion, there are not enough data on use of stimulant medications in pregnancy to allow definitive conclusions about their reproductive safety. Available data for Amphetamines suggest no increase in the risk of malformation when used at therapeutic doses, while infants might have slightly lower birth weights. Human data on Methylphenidate is limited and we cannot rule out the risk of malformation given the available information.

Avatar f tn "Treatment starts with controlling adhd symptoms." When a childs adhd symptoms "are reduced there usually is an improvement in ODD symptoms. Stimulant medications have been shown to decrease adhd symptoms, as well as those of ODD, by up to 50%." In my opinion, the doctors have been not dealing with the cause of her ODD. Nothing you have stated is really recommended to treat adhd. My recommendation for a good adhd medication starts with a good doctor.
Avatar m tn Yes, risperdal is commonly added when someone is diagnosed with adhd. What symptoms did you have prior to the adhd? What kind of testing did you have? Any issues when ON medication should be brought to the attention of the doctor who prescribed it. That's really important. And also letting them know about any other meds you take from any different care providers.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your son has both ADHD and anxiety issues. However, it is common today for medical personnel to misdiagnose a child because the behaviours for some anxiety disorders and ADD/ADHD are very similar. Since the medication for ADHD is not working, I wonder if this could be the problem in your son's situation - he suffers from anxiety but not ADD/ADHD. Usually, the medication for anxiety is one of the SSRI's - non-habit-forming medications.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar n tn I would check out this link. It covers both ADD and ADHD. Read the symptoms for both of the links in green at the top of the page by clicking on them. The site is - http://www.help4adhd.org/en/about/what If it feels possible that you have one or the other, then the next thing is to find a doctor. The link also has on the right side ways to do this. If you are enrolled in a college I could also talk with either your counselor or the medical staff.
Avatar f tn Can we just discuss the pros and cons for daycare for infants as early as 6 weeks? Im still uncertain of daycare for my newborn.
Avatar f tn My hubby and i both has ADHD and are 29 weeks pregnant can are baby have ADHD to
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar n tn How to effectively try and change his behavior. And most importantly, it will also give you a feeling for how ADHD effects kids. That apparently is something your docs have not bothered to tell you - and from the questions I get over on the ADHD forum - this happens a lot. I can also recommend other web sites that have good suggestions on how to help/work with kids with ADHD.
Avatar m tn //www.currentpsychiatry.com/home/article/adhd-or-bipolar-disorder-age-specific-manic-symptoms-are-key/2e1d5ec4615c5b9da40d435fca5f560c.html Your folks need to find a good child psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD. Any idea who came up with the Bipolar diagnosis? And by the way, its a pretty common mistake to mix up the two. and if it is ADHD, there is a ton of info I can send you. Also the medication is a lot easier on the child then bipolar stuff.
5757880 tn?1395578022 (In May the school tested and qualified him for an IEP) Well, he is at a three-tier diagnosis. (1) ADHD (Combined Type), (2) Generalized Anxiety Disorder and (3) R/O of Autism Disorder. Mind you, the doctor cannot test my son for Autism because the medical community in my area still follows the DSM-4 and the school system follows DSM-5, so they informed me to ask the school to test him in his 2nd semester.
Avatar f tn How long has he been in a 1:1 setting? Sometimes kids act out for a while and then they get better. It could be adhd, but if it's improving, maybe he has matured. It seems like ages 5 and 6 are difficult years and esp if children are immature, of course all kids are immature, some more than others. You could slowly integreate him back into the classroom. I would hate to see him get bored with this lady.
Avatar n tn For many years, GER [Gastroesophageal reflux] during infancy and childhood was thought to be a consequence of absent or diminished LES tone [lower esophageal sphincter, which is sometimes also referred to as the Cardiac Sphincter due to its proximity to the heart]. However, studies have shown that baseline LES pressures are normal in pediatric patients, even in preterm infants.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar f tn Yes, the little one could have ADHD. It certainly is an inherited disorder for many - but not all kids. But, i have had kids in the classroom who have ADHD and their brother or sister did not. So it certainly is not guaranteed. By the way, I have seen the changes in how ADHD is treated over the years. Having spent almost 40 years in the classroom. It is being treated much better now then it was.
Avatar f tn However my ex husband took him to the appt. The doctor is a pediatric neurologist who is also seeing him for the headaches and ADHD. My son actually hasnt been taking his ADHD for awhile because he has no appetite when he takes it. So i didnt push him to take it either. He was diagnosed at an early age of 5 as borderline ADHD but the pediatric psychologist at the time didnt push meds and i didnt want to give him meds. Things slowly got worse with his behavior and I think our divorce.
Avatar f tn 8. For infants over 1 month old only on breast milk or formula, add fruit juices 1 oz./month of age per day. Pear or apple juice are OK at any age. (Reason: treating a symptom) 9. For infants over 4 months old, also add baby foods with high fiber content twice a day (peas, beans, apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, plums). 10. Diet for Children Over 1 Year Old: 11. Increase fruit juice (apple, pear, cherry, grape, prune) (note: citrus fruit juices are not helpful). 12.
Avatar m tn I feel as though I should have been diagnosed a long time ago with adhd as when I look at the symptoms and look back at who I was without it (schoolwork and socially) it would seem like a perfect fit. I am 28 years old now and to the point where I cannot find it around anymore.
