Avatar m tn And since it is kind of unusual for someone of your age to have this problem (unless you have been abused), it would be the starting point for treatment. If you have any questions on ADHD possibilities, please ask or post over here - http://www.medhelp.org/forums/ADD---ADHD/show/175 Best wishes.
Avatar f tn When I was in college I use to babysit for two brothers 6 and 8. One with ADHD one not. The younger had it and trying to have a discussion with him was like talking to someone who didn't speak English. I can only imagine that an ADD with an auditory processing problem would be incomprehnsible at times. I can only imagine be a mother and watching your son struggle with some of these symptoms must be really difficult.
Avatar m tn It took four years and two continents to find the correct diagnosis. Only after that was treatment possible. So I understand you because I have been there. The most important factor in helping these children is us, the parents, because we never give up. So, no matter what anyone tells you, don't give up.
Avatar f tn If it was me, I would ask the psychiatrist what does he/she see in me that supports the ADHD diagnosis. Then, I would give some thought to myself and read up on ADHD, and also explore other factors in myself and in my life sotuation could also explain those ADHD symptoms and characteristics he/she is talking about. I don't take everything my doctors say as gospel.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Strattera for the ADHD because, unfortunately, most other medications that help the symptoms of ADHD are stimulants and will exaserbate the symptoms of BP.Good luck with your quest. I'm still trying to get the balance right myself.
Avatar f tn I will say that kids with adhd can have several anxiety about school (due to their adhd) and this can manifest itself in many ways. His eating habits are a bit unusual. However, one of the prime symptoms of adhd is acting without thinking (which the correct dose of medication can really help). And, of course, anxiety can cause all kinds of unusual eating habits. So I think that you need to spend your time researching adhd (I can help with this) and working with your school.
Avatar m tn i basically had all the symptoms of adhd before the diagnosis. but I figured since risperdale was doing me good, that means that I just had depression. but then my doctor said that it's not for your depression.
Avatar f tn then 5 years ago I was also diagnosed with ADHD combined type. Since then I have tried a few different medications and have found that Wellbutrin helps my depression AND also seems to help with my ability to focus and concentrate. My only concern is that I experience significant jumps/elevations in my mood as well as other symptoms during those time, such as restlessness, aggitation, hearing voices, little need for sleep.
Avatar m tn Today, the fifth edition of the DSM only requires one to fulfill five of eighteen possible symptoms to qualify for an ADHD diagnosis. If you haven’t seen the list yet, look it up. It will probably bother you. How many of us can claim we have difficulty with organization, or a tendency to lose things; that we are frequently forgetful, distracted, or fail to pay close attention to details? Under this subjective criteria, the entire U.S. population could potentially qualify.
6726276 tn?1421126668 You know your body best. I don't know that I would put a name to what your going thru because I don't think it would change things. That's terrible the things you have had to go thru and really I think most people would feel the way you are feeling with all of this happening whether they had ADHD or Bipolar. Btw, I have undiagnoised ADHD along with Bipolar too. I was dx as being hyperactive as a child but as I got older it was very apparent that I had ADHD.
Avatar f tn Thank you. I was going to get a "thorough" evaluation, but found that the tester was not that qualified. The psychiatrist that I've been seeing for other meds simply opened his DSM manual, listened to my symptoms and asked if I wanted treatment. I didn't like this attitude either. So I'm going to go with my family doctor on this one. I also see a very good therapist who will support me, but has mixed feelings about the ADD diagnosis. Thanks again.

671512 tn?1226563206 My brother has a severe case of ADHD, and even with odd assistance from his school, he did all the bad things ADHD kids do growing up. He's pretty much a dead beat person. He hasn't been able to hold a job for 5+yrs and lives with my parents. You don't want your child going down the wrong path right? I hope everything works out.Good luck!
Avatar n tn I am surprised I did not see an ADHD diagnosis mentioned.. He certainly has the symptoms and the other things you mentioned are all fairly common co-disorders. The fact you said the stim meds were tried, does lead one to assume that at least at one point in time - that was the thinking. What changed? Now the interesting point is that the school says he is great! Would I be correct in thinking that school was more of a challenge before the meds started?
Avatar f tn Sorry I didn't answer sooner, I just noticed this post. Well, the doctors are very wrong about saying he would have gotten it as a child. "MYTH: Unless you have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as a child, you can’t have it as an adult. FACT: Many adults struggle all their lives with unrecognized ADD/ADHD impairments.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar m tn //www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2511.html In other words, if she does not have Bipolar, but does have ADHD - There is a lot more that can be done. Any idea who came up with the Bipolar diagnosis?
Avatar n tn What can I do and is this a valid treatment for ADHD, especially if the diagnosis is questionable at best? At this point, I am extremely concerned for my son's emotional and physical health.
Avatar n tn She still continues to display all of the diagnosis/symptoms that you describe, but usually everything is toned down because the way we approach it now is different.
Avatar n tn m of the opinion (based on the literature about how health care providers make errors) that diagnosing a person with a neurological disorder like ADHD should be done with both a thorough diagnostic interview and some objective data collection. The symptoms of ADHD can occur for many reasons, and ADHD in adults is highly likely to co-occur with anxiety and depression.

I don't understand why you think your adrenals have to be burned out, unless you were abusing the medication. So, you definitely need to deal with your Ankylosis Sponilytis. And, assuming you have adhd, you need to deal with those symptoms.
Avatar f tn Well, since "Approximately 30%-40% of people with ADHD have an anxiety disorder such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)/excessive worry, agoraphobia, panic disorder or other anxiety issues." (From the first link below) - you may be correct in your thinking. Let me first give you a few very good links on adults, ADHD, and anxiety. This is a great piece on ADHD and Anxiety.

Really, you need to see your doctor again - or perhaps ask for a referral. I do not know where you live but there must be some medical assistance for people without insurance. Perhaps someone on this board might be better able to help you in this case.
