Common Questions and Answers about Adhd symptoms boys

Avatar f tn I'd like to remind you that ADHD is the most common intitial diagnosis for any recalcitrant behavior. That doesn't mean that is wrong, just that it may not explain all of a child's symptoms. My boys were diagnosed ADHD and then, a few years later, OCD was tacked on to one and ODD to the other. Do the "silent seizures" have any effects on your grandson's brain? What medications has he already tried?

Avatar f tn My son grew out of it at about age 15. We didnt use medication but he was bad. He is nearly 18 now + doing great!
Avatar m tn But to answer your question, ya they could have ADHD, but right now they sound like all the posts I read on the child behavior forum about "my out of control 5 year old." These kids are only a year apart. They have had 4 years of learning how to get attention. My guess is that the parents have been pretty absent most of the time. So recommendations: The five year old is certainly old enough to be in preschool or even kindergarten. Divide and conquer!
Avatar f tn They can assess a person/child against a list of symptoms that are collectively named ADD/ADHD - for lack of much better understanding. When they test for the flu, they can list the symptoms and check them off (temp, ache, cough, etc), but they can also TEST for a virus and yes/no its there. But in medicine those symptoms alone can mean many things. Same for attention and hyperactivity. 2.
Avatar f tn Hello, the key to determining if a young child has ADHD is to determine to what degree his symptoms are occurring across settings, and how much his behavior differs from that of other boys his age. Much of what you describe is common unwanted behavior in a boy his age, though it is clear that he needs to learn new skills to follow rules and keep himself safe.

1294567 tn?1272390695 Increased blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety, and insomnia are a few of the many side effects of the drugs prescribed for ADHD. These can also be amplified in people that do not have ADHD but still take the drugs. People are not aware of the many side effects of these drugs, which is why I think a solution needs to be found to stop the exponential growth of cases, which lead to drug abuse because of more availability of the drugs.
Avatar m tn I have 2 boys with ADHD- one was very colicky, the other was a very easy, pleasant baby.
9913729 tn?1406644853 Oh, and you have probably figured this out by now - but if he does have ADHD and your other 3 boys do not - the way you disciplined the other 3 simply won't work with a kid with ADHD.
Avatar f tn My 19 yr old was diagnosed a long time ago ADHD and OCD. Is it possible that my 11 yr old may have it too. SHe shows a few symptoms of ADHD but has not been properly diagnosed yet. My 8 yr old's dr told me that usually most all of them would then. IS that possibly true?
Avatar f tn To get an ADHD diagnosis, you have to show the symptoms in two different places. So I tend to doubt that he would qualify. Also 6 year old boys can be very active. Especially when they have been stuck in school for many hours. They just need to get it out of their system. The best thing for him and you is to find something very active that he can do after school. If he can burn up that energy, he will be very different at home.
Avatar n tn ADHD seems to run in our family. My 4 boys have all been diagnosed with ADHD and although I have not been officially diagnosed, I know I am ADHD as well. I think my biggest problem with daily life and discipline is that I am so disorganized. I can't remember what I need to get done during the day. I constantly tell my boys what they need to do but then they forget AND I forget too! So basically nothing ever gets done in my household.
305005 tn?1358728290 hi, my boys both have adhd. they just put them on adderall trying it out. can anybody tell me anything on first hand about it. they was one the daytrana patch and i think that made there symtoms worse. thanks!!
Avatar f tn I agree. I don't think the adhd is not the issue and it is true that many kids with adhd have some social skills problems and find younger kids easier to deal with. However, that is a huge age difference. What exactly does a 14 year old still "play" that would interest a 7 year old. We had an 11 year old that lived close to us that jumped on the trampoline with my young boys (then age 4/5 and 5/6). But I wouldn't let them go off and play by themselves.
Avatar f tn i have a 15 year old daughter i think she might have ocd because she bothers alot of kids about wanting friends and she is obcessed with dogs, and boys i dont know wat else to do if anybody else knows wat else it could be please let me know thanks
Avatar n tn In a 1995 study comparing plasma essential fatty acid levels in 53 boys with ADHD to a control group of 43 boys without ADHD, researchers found significantly lower levels of omega-3 fatty acids. In the April - May 1996 issue of Physiology & Behavior, Laura J.
Avatar f tn This is only a forum for laypeople, not professionals. You are in a tough situation. I would speak to the therapist and ask him outright if the boys are a threat to you. This doesn't sound like ADHD although that may be part of it. I would ask the therapist on your next visit if they are sociopaths or similar. I'm afraid that when reading your post it does sound like something out of a movie, and not a nice one at that.
Avatar n tn I have also read a book on ADHD and they both have 15-16 out of 20 of the symptoms along with the sensory problems too. They have no respect for theyre own things as well as others. Heres a few things that I marked in the book.
1764615 tn?1313515647 Hey Katie, a lot of this is normal (unfortunately) for someone with ADHD. In the book, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley, she says that girls are more accurate and honest in their self-perceptions. They report more problems with self-esteem, depression, family relationships, and peer rejections than boys. Girls self-awareness may be the reason they have three times more depression than AD/HD boys (p.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar f tn s interfering with school work now and really bugging me. I checked out a list of ADHD symptoms from this website and found many that I could relate to.
