5973125 tn?1378579463 If he does not have ADHD or ADD, then I certainly agree with you about not taking Adderall! However, if he does have ADHD or ADD, then there is no proven natural medicine that would help. In fact, if there was - it would have to be so powerful that it could be dangerous if improperly made. There are things that he can do at work to help with his concentration from setting alarms to reminders on his smartphone, etc.
Avatar n tn My son is 6 yrs old and has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. We have tried natural medicines-Herbal, tried dexadine, ritalin but gave severe eye and cheek tic. Have kept him away from canned foods most box foods growing vegetables so he gets no pesticides. We eat moose meat and stay away from things with nitrates etc. We had on clonidine to get rid of tic and it helped behavior a bit. Tics gone off clonidine but getting worse. behavior is getting out of hand at school.
5757880 tn?1395581622 Hi there, Magnesium, Vitamin D and Zinc in studies showed to have a very positive impact on Children with ADHD. 95 % of ADHD Children have a low leel of magnesium. Your doctor should make a blood, a urin and hair sample to determine the level and set the dosage.
Avatar m tn The anxiety forum on Medhelp has some pretty good suggestions. Might be worth checking it out here - http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/tips-on-dealling-with-panic-attacks/show/1485566#post_6752037 As far as taking ADHD meds to help. It depends if the anxiety is a side result of ADHD. In, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley, she states that 25 to 30% of children with ADHD have an anxiety disorder. I think it could be higher in adults.
Avatar f tn Basically this is physical activity, muscle work, sensory experiences, and deep pressure that provides a calming affect to the nervous system. Many kids with add/adhd have comorbid sensory issues as well as add/adhd can sometimes be confused for sensory because the symptoms can be similar. My son has sensory integration disorder and we've found the 'heavy work' to be essential to his staying calm and foucused and organized. Things that work well with my 9 year old son now are swimming.
Avatar n tn He and his half sister who I also adopted received counseling early after they were removed from their biological mother who was a drug addict and prositute. During the problems in Kindergarten is when I sought medical help and he was diagnosed with ADHD/ODD. A couple different medicines were tried for the ADHD but then he could not sleep and he still displayed aggressive behavior.
1453183 tn?1287852619 This may not answer your question about schooling, but have you tried natural approaches for treating ADD / ADHD? First make sure to eliminate any foods that may contain pesticides from the diet. They have been linked to ADD / ADHD. Supplements that may help are fish oil, flax seed oil, DL-phenylalanine or tyrosine, and SAM-E. Also make sure that your child is eating a balanced diet (try to eliminate processed or unhealthy foods such as sodas, sugary cereals, etc) and getting plenty of exercise.
Avatar f tn Kapvay is the only drug which is approved by FDA for the treatment of ADHD in children of age 6-18 .This comes in a non stimulant extensive release tablet form and is always recommended by doctors for children. Kapvay has some other off label uses as well like treating insomnia, in treatment of menopausal symptoms. Sometimes it is also used in treatment of conditions like psychiatric disorders like hyperarousal, sleeping disorder. It can also be used as a mild sedative.
Avatar f tn I was browsing around looking for non pill ways of curing ADHD and I came across a book called How to Cure ADHD. Has any one heard about it? On some other discussion forums some one had mentioned that they had used it and it really improved their child’s behavior. The website http://www.tocureadhd.com/ looked really promising. Has anyone else used it? I would like to finally have a non medical way of dealing with ADHD and this seems like the best option.
Avatar n tn Adderall is the most commonly prescribed ADHD medicine for adults. I think most insurance companies cover it until a person is 25. Some will cover it for longer. I had to start paying out of pocket on my 26th birthday. Some versions of extend release Ritalin are also FDA approved for adults and there are also non stimulant alternatives.
Avatar m tn Have your children check with a physician skilled and knowledgeable in natural and nutritional medicine for help in these areas. A different meaning for “planned parenthood” Of course, if a young woman can follow a healthy diet for a few years before beginning her family, she’s much more likely to have very healthy babies who will grow into healthy children who don’t suffer from attention deficit disorder or learning disabilities in the first place.
Avatar f tn My 5yr old beautiful boy has adhd/mild autism. I chose to go the natural route vs ritalin. He's on a gfcf diet and as well as avoiding foods he's allergic to. I am seeing a naturopath and homeopath to treat his condition. He's on multivitamins, candicease (to treat yeast), super EFA, Nu Sera, passiflora or calm by pascoe and digestive enzymes. Is he lacking something else? Has anybody here tried the natural way and see it work 100%?
Avatar n tn I had a friend who was very into natural things and both her boys had ADHD. She didn't want to put them on medication so she gave them Flax Seed Oil every day and swears she saw a difference in them when they were consitantly on it. It does take awile to kick in though, I think, probably at least 6 weeks of taking it every day. Maybe longer. You don't have to take it straight. You can mix it in a smoothie or other foods.
Avatar f tn I am all for alternative/healthy/drug-free ways of surviving but unfortunately my son's ADHD is very severe. If he does not take his medicine he loses almost any ability to concentrate or focus. He would not be able to sit still for any amount of time. He literally climbs the door frames as if he were Spiderman.
Avatar n tn I have ADHD, am 18 years old and cannabis helps me do homework after school. My medicine wears me completely out mentally during the day so that by the time I get home it is impossible for me to concentrate on homework and I have absolutely no motivation. Cannabis makes my homework a fun and challenging puzzle instead of a required task/chore.
Avatar f tn I believe that you need to have what is called a TOVA test to see if you have ADHD and what tendency you have. I am an older adult who was recently diagnosed with ADHD (tendancy toward inattentive). Through speaking with my therapist, she picked up on things I was saying about my disorganization along with memory and concentration problems. I'm thinking that you need to discuss this with your LCSW and MD.
Avatar f tn My son is 28. He lives at home. he was diagnosed with ADHD when he was young. He is only 5' 3'' and acts like he doesn't have a problem. He takes Concerta (and ritalin for the AM an PM.) He is a chronic liar and will not take responsibility for anything. He is often verbally abusive when confronted with a lie or a problem. I feel horrible about wanting him to move out because he seems to have many issues ( depression, anger, trouble sleeping at night with daytime drowsiness.
Avatar f tn I was wondering can ADD be treated using natural remedies? If so can you give me some suggestions? I have been reading alot on the internet and I don't want to waste my money on something that will not work.
Avatar f tn I have a 12 year old son who had been diagnosed with adhd. This was a few years ago. He is currently on Daytrana patch. He is a zombie, he does not eat, has lost about 8 pounds, has picked a bald spot on the back of his head and has chewed his nails practiacally to nothing. He has tried Stratera, Adderall,Concerta and now this. They all have these adverse effects on him. The reason wwe went with the patch is because he woudl totally flip out when we asked him to swallow a pill.
1367899 tn?1278125040 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar f tn It's also a chicken and egg situation -- does adrenal problem cause anxiety or vice versa? No way to know, really. What natural medicine has done historically is take stress conditions and partially treat them by supporting the adrenals. The current fave of herbs for this right now is ashwagandha, which both supports the adrenals and for some has relaxing qualities.
Avatar f tn I have one particular friend that got her masters in that way of teaching simply because she watched her own family torn apart by her brother who was unmanageable by the old standards and this was before medications were even available for kids, let alone a diagnosis of ADHD.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed 4 mos. ago with ADHD and Oppositional Defiance Disorder. I tried all natural and homeopathic treatments first, but none worked consistently. However, we did find that a wheat intolerance was making his symptoms much worse. We are now deciding to start him on meds. His pediatrician thought that Adderall XR was the best one to try first. He started him at 5 mg this past Saturday.
Avatar n tn So, from this point of view I would question the doctor that used Stratera first. Usually most ADHD specialists will use a stimulant medicine such as Ritalin, Metadate or Adderall. If stimulants do not work, they will try Stratera. The success rate of Stratera is not very high. If I was you, I would also clean up his diet: no sugar, no artificial coloring in the food, no preservatives and no processed food.
Avatar f tn The adrenal problem was treated and those symptoms went away. My doctor is an alternative medicine MD. On this forum I always suggest to those who write in that they look to see if the cause of their problems is physical (or dietary). There is an unfortunate tendency to first look for help from a psychologist or psychiatrist, assuming it is an emotional problem. In the end it might be that, but it is wise to rule out physical causes first.
Avatar f tn Maybe the medicine is making his behavior worse because the professionals have not correctly diagnosed him or the medicine is not right or you are giving the wrong dosage. If he really has ADHD, have you tried to give him Ritalin only? Usually Metadate CD (slow release version of the Ritalin ingredient) seems to work better for children than immediate release Ritalin. You can also post on the "expert behavior" forum to the doctor in charge of that forum.
Avatar n tn My son is 8 yrs old and was recently diagnosed with Bipolar, ADHD, two types of anxiety. I am having trouble with disipline and do not know what to do? Any suggestions? I have tried everything from stickers to spanking. I am lost and confused.
931415 tn?1244681111 The anti-vaccine movement is but one of the most visible components of a much deeper problem in our public discourse, a problem that values feelings and personal experience over evidence, compelling stories and anecdotes over science. I’m referring to the Oprah-fication of medicine in America. Why Oprah? you may ask. I’m happy to tell you. Oprah Winfrey has been the host of the highest rated syndicated talk show in television history, her self-named The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Avatar f tn Sue, My son of 9 years old has ADHD and CAPD, he goes to a special school for children that "learn differently", as often these children have learning difficulties too and need a special type of schooling that is multi-sensory in its approach. If you are home-schooling for the moment you may want to look into this type of approach as it would help him learn without frustration.
