Common Questions and Answers about Adhd medicine

Avatar f tn We haven't been able to find a medicine that works long term.,she has been on many of the ADHD meds. Can anyone help?
383943 tn?1217726321 Did she get evaluated by a psycholigist or developmental doctor that specializes in ADHD? If she has ADHD, the first medication that you should try is Metadate CD or Ritalin. Start with a very small dosage such as 2.5mg or 5mg. If it does not work because it is not enough, keep on increasing the amount very slowly until you see that she is doing well. I am not familiar with celexa. If it is a stimulant like Ritalin, the dosage sounds too high.

Avatar f tn My son age 7 was diagnosed with ADHD by a Dr. we are lucky enough to leave near a facility that works specifically with ADHD, autism and similar diagnoses. He is on medication and we have seen improvements. The first night he was on medicine we went out for pizza I had to go to the bathroom because I couldn't keep from crying, he sat still, ate his dinner, and talked with us. Instead of running around, going to the bathroom, taking one bit every 10 minutes.

Avatar n tn I have recently found out through my daughter going to therapy that I have depression, anxiety and ADHD. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin and that was awful - My anxiety went through the roof and my mood swings were terrible, and the blurred vision was unbearable - I couldn't read. He switched me to Zoloft and within a week I felt great. After a couple of weeks he decided to put me on Aderall for the ADHD. I have been on that for about 3 weeks and I feel worse.
Avatar f tn And I wonder if she has ADHD or ADD? As those with ADHD tend to get discovered faster. So I guess the first place to start is with an overall view of the problem. This is a pretty good site for that with lots of other good resources - This site deals with the problems that teenagers can have - And I have many more sites that are aimed at specific problems.
Avatar n tn i am trying to find a doctor (a good doctor) that treamts the ADHD and not just give the medicine that slows the child down. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advanced.
565294 tn?1216436915 I totally understand your concern with your son's weight loss on ADHD medicine. My 9 year old son has been on Concerta for three years and the first year and a half he was very thin. Now he is the right weight for his age and height. He is on 18mg. We tried him on the 27mg but it was too much. He was thin for that period of time, but he has jumped two grade levels ahead of his class in reading and has much better impulse control. He eats a good breakfast and eats like crazy between 5pm and 9pm.
Avatar n tn Please, please, pleaseee take note of not using this medicine every day. That’s all I ask for your personal wellbeing.

Avatar f tn I have ADHD and my son has ADHD. It runs in my family from way back before ADHD became rampant and misdiagnosed. My son also has a very high IQ - and had the same difficulties as your son. I also work in the school as a speech pathologist. Request an obsevation by either the School Psychologist or a Teacher Consultant, if they have one. They can also give you a checklist that can be filled out by you, the teacher and your son.

Avatar f tn sometimes thats not good enough and lately ive been hearing Tylenol shouldn't even be taken unless ur in extreme pain I hear Tylenol causes adhd in children if taken to much during pregnancy try a warm bath thats what I do it helps
Avatar n tn Also, it may be worth trying Strattera, a non-stimulant alternative to treat ADHD. By the way, even with children who take stimulant medication for ADHD and who also display oppositional traits, Clonidine is often recommended.
