Avatar n tn Adderall is not prescribed for poor study habits, but for Attention Deficit Disorder, which may interfere with study habits. A review of the diagnosis will help your physician guide you to the best intervention, whether it is an increased dose of Adderall, or a trial of Ritalin, or another intervention. You may want to re-consult your physician and inform him/her your concerns.
Avatar f tn My son is 10 1/2 years old and weighs 102 lbs and was recently diagnosed with ADHD. The Doctor put him on Concerta 18 mg and then 36 mg. I don't like these meds as they make him angry when the meds are wearing off. The main symptoms for which we had him diagnosed were: He always goes up to the 5th grade teacher and asks her to explain to him what she said he was supposed to do. He just doesn't seem to understand directions.
Avatar m tn The anxiety forum on Medhelp has some pretty good suggestions. Might be worth checking it out here - http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/tips-on-dealling-with-panic-attacks/show/1485566#post_6752037 As far as taking ADHD meds to help. It depends if the anxiety is a side result of ADHD. In, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley, she states that 25 to 30% of children with ADHD have an anxiety disorder. I think it could be higher in adults.
Avatar n tn My child is 12 years old. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, ODD and an anxiety disorder. He has a high IQ and is extremely gifted in math and science. He is currently taking three different medications (one of them a stimulant), which help him "control" himself for a while. I have battled the school system for years to get him appropriate education, but they just keep targetting him as a problem child.
Avatar n tn It could be Asperger's but you definitely need a professional diagnosis. My stepson is 10 and very bright. He does very well in school...in the areas he wants to. He has a mind that works like no one I've ever known. At 10 years old, if you mention any movie produced, he can tell you what movie studio made it, who the producers, directors and actors are and what year it was released. But his perception of reality is distorted also....
Avatar n tn My son was assessed by a psychologist then diagnosed with adhd when he was 5yrs old. He was put on to concerta with many side effects.no appetite weight loss and extreme rebound effect at night which was unbearable. During that time I discovered neurotherapy and he started sessions 3 times a week. He improved markedly in his, concentration and focus in class and behaviour and meds were stopped.

2212714 tn?1342262344 My son has a history typical of a young adult never receiving ADHD assistance. That history was needless to say negative. Does anyone know a counselor for adults who will be effective in ADHD/Depression?. We live near New Port Richey Florida. Perhaps starting from square one with my son cooperating is what is needed. At this point he has no insurance, goes to college and works weekends. Loves computer science subjects.
Avatar f tn Keeping your balance while you wait to see a Doctor for an evaluation for a diagnose is so important also. Do you know any parents with children who have a combination of Autism/ADHD? You can consider looking into support groups around your area. I will share some links you can look over for any useful info. http://www.chadd.org/ http://www.autismsocietyofindia.org/ http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer http://adhd56.tripod.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. Yeah I've been seeing him for months now and he's only tried depression meds. Now he wants to explore the ADHD and possible bi polar. So he's not just handing out pills hoping to fix something. I'll read those links and get all the info I can.
1460021 tn?1445739558 My doctor has written 7 editions of the Australian drug guide, and he's hit the nail on the head with suspecting ADHD when doctors i have been seeing my whole life never even picked up on the fact that i might have it at all! My mother suspected that i had it when my father was diagnosed with tourettes when i was about 5, during his diagnosis she asked the doctor if i could have tourettes and the doctor said that ADHD can stem from tourettes.
Avatar f tn I did find this one article which might help you. It reviews various types of meds used for ADHD - https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:kH4CuWvgmbQJ:www.ncgiadd.org/pdf/Medications.
Avatar f tn Namaste, People with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have difficulty sustaining attention and concentration. They typically exhibit inappropriate levels of activity, distractibility, and impulsivity. While ADD and ADHD are usually diagnosed in childhood, they can last (often undetected) throughout adolescence into adulthood.
Avatar n tn The connection between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and ADHD has been confirmed by studies in which youngsters with ADHD, when compared with non-ADHD children had much lower blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid necessary for normal function of the eyes and the cerebral cortex (the brain region that handles higher functions such as reasoning and memory). Scientific Evidence Two types of fatty acids are considered essential.
Avatar f tn My younger sister, being born 11 years my junior, had my parents pretty much to her self growing up and I was there to guide her during her formative years. She is barely noticeable with her ADHD and is quite a success at what ever she chooses to do with her life. Although each of us deals with our disorder differently, we have all grown to learn life skills and non of us was ever put on medication as children.

1423922 tn?1283255386 I'm sorry that my post came off the way it did to you. I was trying to offer ways to avoid forgetfulness as that would be the best way to help him avoid being upset about it - because, basically, he's just going to be that way. It can be a much more difficult road to force him to be happy with the way he is than it would be to teach him how to be ready for it. I meant no harm or judgment in my post and I'm sorry that it appeared as if I did. Good luck to the both of you.
883151 tn?1245518109 The doctor had at one point thought that he had a form of autism because of his behaviors. Then he started thinking ADHD. Now the doctor is going back and forth. He can't seem to determine if this is ADHD or autism. My son used to throw big fits where he would throw himself on the floor and bang his head on the floor if he didn't get what he wanted but the problem was that he wouldn't tell me what he wanted. He seemed to expect me to know without him having to say.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any alternative vitiamans or diets that work besides medicating young children? I have a 5 year old dignosied with the hyper part of ADHD and I do not want to put him on the ADHD medication after reading the side effects that scare the hell out of me.
Avatar m tn Hi I just wanted to say that I have ADHD and am now 36. from my personal experience ADHD can make you feel very isolated and out of sync with people. As a child every day I felt that I was trying and trying and always messed up. In the end I was just so frustrated (no ones fault i know). In the end I just exploded and became a rebel. I am also on ritalin. I have found that if you don't have a break it kind of stops working. Does your son have breaks?
Avatar f tn I also found this info in a ADHD guide. Hint - expand the window so it is easier to read. Strategies to Improve Sleep Sleep Hygiene Optimize sleep hygiene: maintain a quiet and comfortable sleep environment. Maintain a consistent time of going to bed and waking in the morning. If the patient is allowed to sleep late in the day this will phase delay the circadian rhythm.
Avatar n tn If his only symptom is daydreaming, I would honestly be quite hesitant to treat him with stimulants. Especially in light of his academic successes. I would recommend creating some worksheets on his academic level, and observing him in a quiet environment. Is his day dreaming really disruptive? Another test would be to observe him during normal play, or while watching television. Periodically throughout the day, you may also want to see how difficult it is to get his attention.

Avatar n tn My son was recently diagnosed ADHD at the age of 4 1/2. I'm not familiar with early childhood and ADHD and could use some suggestions or reading material how to help him and us as we adapt to this. Any suggestions? The doctor told us he puts the "h" in adhd so the hyperness is really there as well as the spontanious and he's an only child to boost.
