adhd

Avatar n tn My son was recently diagnosed ADHD at the age of 4 1/2. I'm not familiar with early childhood and ADHD and could use some suggestions or reading material how to help him and us as we adapt to this. Any suggestions? The doctor told us he puts the "h" in adhd so the hyperness is really there as well as the spontanious and he's an only child to boost.
Avatar n tn I have a 10 year old black son with O.D.D./ADHD ! What is the right meds for him?
Avatar n tn My son just turned 21, he lives at home, does pizza delivery. He was diagnosed with server ADHD in Highschool but he didn't like the mediacation cause it made him aggressive. He has recently done neuroscience brain training which has cured him of ADHD. Now he wants to get his stuff together but has no idea what in life he wants to do. Is there a counselor of some sort (outside of a Psh) that can help him narrow down some choices, and guide him in making a decision?
Avatar f tn Hi, I am curious because you posted in the ADHD community and not the child behavior forum. Does your son have ADHD? Mark's answer is correct, but if you son does have ADHD it would also explain the impulsiveness of his comments, and the trouble that he has controlling what he is saying.

Avatar n tn My son was assessed by a psychologist then diagnosed with adhd when he was 5yrs old. He was put on to concerta with many side effects.no appetite weight loss and extreme rebound effect at night which was unbearable. During that time I discovered neurotherapy and he started sessions 3 times a week. He improved markedly in his, concentration and focus in class and behaviour and meds were stopped.
Avatar f tn You are welcome. Here is a link that you might find interesting. Its "A guide for women with ADHD " http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/6212.html?
Avatar f tn To be frank, there is no solid evidence that natural remedies will successfully treat ADHD (the name of the condition, even when hyperactivity is not present - such a child displays Inattentive-type ADHD). It would be irresponsible of me to guide you toward treatments that are not supported by empirical evidence.
2212714 tn?1342258744 My son has a history typical of a young adult never receiving ADHD assistance. That history was needless to say negative. Does anyone know a counselor for adults who will be effective in ADHD/Depression?. We live near New Port Richey Florida. Perhaps starting from square one with my son cooperating is what is needed. At this point he has no insurance, goes to college and works weekends. Loves computer science subjects.
Avatar f tn My son has been on the Feingold diet for mild autism and adhd symptoms. I noticed on the website that this diet can help with depression and suicidal thoughts. It also helps with violent behavior and insomnia. I've been adding a lot of the food into my everyday life and can personally tell you I feel pretty good. The diet eliminates foods with chemicals and dyes and even apples. Goodbye M&Ms and Skittles. To get the shopping guide and brochures is a bit expensive.
Avatar n tn Wow - that is a lot to handle and I would absolutely urge you to get a 2nd opinion, and perhaps a 3rd opinion as well. Russell Barkley, in his authoritative guide to ADHD, says (and I agree) that the professionals in our lives serve as advisors and nothing more. "We" as parents must advocate for our children and make certain that they are getting the best care and treatment possible - including support and encouragement. In terms of the diagnoses - I have two thoughts: 1.
Avatar n tn I read the doctors answer and having him ckecked for ADHD would not hurt. My daughter Nicolena is 9 and she has ADHD . I finally after several doctors I took her to and they all were horrible, all they want to do is give her medication, she does take meds. but I finally found the right doctor and she went from being nasty not being able to enjoy the things a 9yr. girl should. We are really happy with the outcome.
Avatar f tn //www.help4adhd.org/en/about/what/WWK1 Finally, on the subject of anger you might find this interesting. Check out point 5 here - http://jeffsaddmind.com/add-rage-or-the-centerless-facets-66.htm. And there is a lot of good stuff on this site. Though its a bit maddening to navigate. Hope this helps some. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn It is very difficult to know anything based on what you posted. First, lab ranges even for the different labs in the US differ so without ranges - have no idea if you are low, high or normal. Second - no idea if you are sick or how you are sick. The tests run are not really run for adrenal except DHEA (and that is really more of an adrogen - e.g. it converts to testosterone and estrogen) so not sure why it belongs in this forum.

Avatar m tn weakness, tired, confused, non tolerance of exercise, muscle weakness, sleep disturbance.center of headache, Taking only Metformin . You can please guide.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. Yeah I've been seeing him for months now and he's only tried depression meds. Now he wants to explore the ADHD and possible bi polar. So he's not just handing out pills hoping to fix something. I'll read those links and get all the info I can.
Avatar f tn Namaste, People with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have difficulty sustaining attention and concentration. They typically exhibit inappropriate levels of activity, distractibility, and impulsivity. While ADD and ADHD are usually diagnosed in childhood, they can last (often undetected) throughout adolescence into adulthood.
Avatar f tn My son is nine years old and has never had vision problems in the past. Yesterday, I received a letter from the school saying that he failed his eye screening and that we needed to take him to an eye doctor ASAP. I wear glasses, but didn't need them until I was in my 20's. My ex-husband told me that he didn't need glasses until he was 13, but my dad just told me that he had an astigmatism when he was 5.
Avatar f tn The only reason that I can think of for him being on Focalin is that he has ADHD. And ALL of the things that you describe are very typical behaviors for someone who has ADHD. Has his doctor bothered to tell you anything about ADHD? and what it can do to a child. Has anyone bothered to explain to him why he hates school and doesn't feel smart? For that matter has anyone explained to him why his meds are important? By the way, why doesn't he like the pill?
Avatar f tn 1) mental fatigue (with poor attention, memory, concentration, retention, etc.) with ADHD and other learning disabilities. 2) Physical fatigue (times of low blood pressure, feeling "lazy," poor motivation, easily winded-feeling, unrefreshed, need to sleep long hours, unalert until late morning/afternoon, naps, brief sleep interuptions, post nasal drip, etc.) 3) Easily stressed, affecting mental/emotional/physical, twice even leading to brief agitation and atypical psychosis.
Avatar f tn Have you considered ADHD? If he has normal speech, good eye contact and is able to play with other children in a small group, the answer is not PDD. Talk to a professional about ADHD. You should consult a child development doctor and not just a consuler. God luck.
