Avatar n tn It's brilliant, and goes through what to supplement, how much and why to help all sorts of conditions.... anxiety, ADHD, adrenal fatigue & depression, you name it, it's there. A word of caution with using DHEA though...Do not start taking that without having visited your doctor first and haivng had a blood test to chack your levels.
Avatar n tn Pediaticians are usually not qualified to eveluate ADHD. I am also surprised that your doctor would tell you to up the medication if the medication is causing tics. I believe, but I am not an expert, that usually the doctor "reduces" the dosage if tics and other side effects appear. That is the reason that I recommend that you find an ADHD specialist. Also, there are "slow release" dosages of the various medications that eliminate the need to give him 3 daily dosages.
Avatar n tn Hi I'm new to this site and was wondering about someone who has ADD/ADHD and whether or not it is wise to smoke pot while on the meds or off. Just curious to know if anyone else smokes pot when the meds wear off. For me I have smoked pot since I was fifteen years old, five years after I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I am 27 now any suggestions would be very helpful.
Avatar n tn I can't link mine to any specific foods, either. I seem to be OK for awhile and only have mild symptoms, then they get worse. I work out, eat really well, don't drink or smoke. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. All I know is when I have them a lot, I get really stressed and that is all I can think of.
Avatar n tn The good news is that since this enzyme is required to metabolize the very additives that are removed from the diet, there appears to be some recovery in most people so that salicylate-containing foods are usually tolerated at least in small quantities after a while. More information on the science behind this is at http://www.feingold.org/research_pst.html A description of the diet itself, quotes from parents, etc. are all found on the Feingold web site at http://www.feingold.
Avatar f tn Hi--I am new to this blog. My 8yr old son has ADHD and mild delayed development. I tried not to medicate. As a nurse I do realize that stimulants can be addictive etc..Well, he was just unable to cope in Kindergarten--the teacher told me that he just wasn't retaining anything and I agreed. Despite counseling and behavior mod therapy etc..he wasn't learning. His self esteem was taking a hit and we started to see alot of anxiety. SO we did adderal. It worked and has for the past year or so.
Avatar f tn Maybe give him something specifically for him to chew on, some adhd kids chew to get out some extra energy, and focus better when they are doing it. Instead of getting him to stop entirely, get him something like a chewable necklace so as to not destroy his clothes.
Avatar n tn And perhaps there isn't even a problem, wouldn't that be great to know. In the US we are very lucky. Government run programs are available from birth to age 3 to address any issues a child may have in development (delay, autism, etc.) and after that our public school system takes over. It is great if one can not afford private therapies.
Avatar m tn I have so many health problems and have not told my dr about my addiction (too ashamed-a family dr). I also have ADHD and been trying to avoid tkng those meds bc I hate their side effects and bc of that I'm not tkng my ADHD med I'm failing n school. Seems like I rather take opiates to relieve my body aches n calm me down than take ADHD med. So I am attempting again to get off hydrocodone.
Avatar n tn I believe in managing depression naturally and I believe most of it stems from diet and what we put into our bodies. Salads are cleansing and omega 3 adds balance. These help to regulate your serotinin levels. Reduce your processed carb intake like white breads, rice and white sugar. Avoid artificial sweeteners and eat more nuts and whole grains. You will feel even better. We all have events in our lives that get us down...
Avatar n tn Needless to say, after 4 days, I went right back to the paxil. I wanted to get a second opinion on how to make the change from paxil to wellbutrin so I don't go crazy again. Also, will I gain weight on wellbutrin? Thanks for your help!!!
Avatar n tn I had heard that with some AD's there were certain foods to avoid or the drug may not work.... but this is extreme. You have answered my question explicitly !! I will not speculate on exactly what your mental health profession is but I think we are all fairly certain !!!! :-)) How nice of you to take some time here and provide information that most of us are not able to find so easily. I also have a big clue as to your time restraints. Blessings upon your work.
535822 tn?1443980380 Synthetic vitamins are cheaply made and are in non-absorbable forms so your body does not get any nutritional benefits. Stop wasting your money and harming your body. What to avoid Beware of the term "other ingredients," these can include: talc, dyes, sodium benzoate, methylcellulose, carnauba wax, silicon/titanium dioxide, animal parts, and artificial ingredients.
Avatar m tn One more thing -- to see a list of foods you should avoid when on a candida diet, check out The Candida Diet website; it has a great list.
203342 tn?1328740807 Studies show a possible connection between additives and ADHD. It can be hard to find packaged foods without BHA, MSG, nitrates or food dyes, though. There is a website that sells additive-free sauces and flavoring mixes for quick pizzas, pasta and desserts. It was started by a pharmacist whose son had severe food sensitivities. It's www.wildtree.com.
4801019 tn?1359349012 Not sure how to help with what you have since you don't know what you have, but I can give you a view of how natural medicine would view this. Assuming the tests are correct and you don't have kidney stones, then you may very well be suffering the consequences of too many antibiotics. Antibiotics are very effective at killing off bacteria, but most of the bacteria in our bodies is beneficial to our health and a large part of our immune system.
2006603 tn?1331332927 There were other suggestions/theories that caffeine consumption could be related to kids developing ADHD, etc but none of those have been reproduced, and seem to be given little attention these days. It seems the jury is still out on whether it causes preterm labor and birth defects and no human studies have been performed, or are likely to be. Coffee contains compounds called phenols that interfere with iron (or other critical vitamins/minerals for pregnancy) absorption...
Avatar n tn My son was thought to have oppositional defiance syndrome and I'm sure if I had kept him at the previous school he would have been diagnosed with ADHD. So grateful to have changed to Montessori. Obviously his problems haven't disappeared - however we can now get to the root of the problem (with the OT) rather than only seeing the 'side effects' of the problem - bad behavior.
Avatar m tn Let me be honest, I don't think i've done proper due diligence as i've never fully committed to a specific diet, or I simply was too lazy to exclude various foods, as well as trying (Foomaps/testing for lactose intolerance/breath tests etc) Many years back all I've done was a colonoscopy, and the results came back as normal with the exception that I had a rather long intestine, all that the gastro medic suggested was something like flatulence pills combined with the charcoal ones, and sent me
Avatar m tn In 2011, I realized I was extremely sensitive to all corn and corn derivatives and learned to avoid them (very challenging). In March 2012, an IgG panel of food and environmental sensitives came back positive with 30+ foods and almost all grass, mold, trees, dust, etc. It also shows a yeast infection in the back of my throat. I felt better for a couple weeks after taking an anti-fungal but then felt even worse than before.
306455 tn?1288865671 Just very curious as many other non-addiction posts never get moved. ??????????
683664 tn?1330969924 Since all meds are filtered through the liver as well as kidneys and lympatic system, I would try to avoid as many meds as possible while on TX so that the TX can be more effective, ask for Procrit, get a heating blanket, they come in throw sizes now, it helps with the muscle aches, long soaks in tub also help, will help with anal irritation also, I assume that is from the diarrhea, hot water bottle for ab cramps, sharpe cheddar cheez and yogart for the diarrhea, for mood swings try
Avatar f tn With or without Hashi's, someone with celiac is going to have to scrupulously avoid gluten for the rest of their lives. BTW, what was your antibody count before going g/f, and what is it now?
598237 tn?1225647072 This chiropractor claimed that ADHD people have the dominant eye on the wrong side and claimed to be able to switch the eye dominance to the correct side and that would fix the ADHD. Well, I am right handed and footed, but left eyed. Teacher is the opposite, and this friend's kids were right handed and footed but left eyed. And I have spoken to several adults who were ADHD and when I brought up this dominance idea, they all had the same situation. So again----coincidence?
Avatar n tn Even most spaghetti sauces have sugar. I buy juice -- not Kool Aid or juice DRINKS! I avoid canned foods -- even fruits. I buy fresh or frozen fruits and veggies. Within 2 weeks, I did see a major improvement in his behavior. I do buy potato chips once in a while or something thats 'forbidden" but for the most part I try to avoid them.
Avatar n tn If she can't eat for a day or so, it's not as big of a deal, but again, comfort foods in small amounts she may be able to manage. Soup, scrambled eggs, toast. Ensure or a protein drink/shake also will help. I wasn't able to CT due to underlying health issues. I tapered and was fine with it, other than it does sort of drag out the withdrawals. When tapering, the slower you go, the better you'll feel. I have a daughter in college and I understand they need to go to class.
Avatar m tn I would like to know what you have to say. I am allergic to all man-made fibers, plastics, products. Gotten worse for 10 yrs. I now make my own clothes, incl. Bras, undies, coats. (cotton, silk, wool only) cotton thread too. No elastic, not even 1% spandex. I make my own shampoo, toothpaste, detergent, deodorant, cleaning products, faux-cortisone, band aids, etc. Not complicated & products are best I've ever had. Glad 2 share if u want recipes.
